Subclassing sounds like a great way to sell new Classes and Skill Styles

For players who stick to a main character and never spend too long on alternate characters, Subclassing is huge.

Finally, players will have a reason to buy DLC Classes if they originally made their main character one of the base game Classes. Those DLC Classes have skill lines which can now be learned by their main character. I'm looking forward to getting an 8th Class because I'll be able to use its skill lines on my main character.

Further, this means Skill Styles for Class abilities will be valuable. For instance, Summon Winged Twilight, Warrior is now useful for non-Sorcerers if players decide to pick up the Daedric Summoning skill line. Maybe we'll get Skill Styles for other Class abilities that'll entice us.

Making Subclassing a base game feature is a very smart move, in my opinion. This will encourage people to spend more time with the game and spend more money on new Classes and Class Skill Styles in the future.

The only only silver lining I'm seeing right now is that this would make people a lot less upset if we did get an 8th class because they could just put the new lines on their mains and not have to complain about needing to level a new character.

I want an 8th Class in the worst way. We still have so many places to be able to go *cough*DwemerArtificer*cough* and I'd love to be able to play with that, but I fear that since balancing a new Class is now exponentially harder since it needs to be balanced against all skill lines instead of just the other classes as a whole, I fear that we won't be getting a new Class for a long time... if ever again.

As many people are pointing out, the arguments in favor of subclassing are the same as they were in favor of hybridization a while back, and that only led to the number of viable builds shrinking. Sure, overland RP can do whatever (and I do want to play with some skill line swapping for some of my for-fun alts), but this will likely lead to an unshakeable and oppressive one-build-only meta. After all, if you want to be competitive in PvE or PvP, you will have to use the best build or you won't be able to get into a group/will get killed instantly.

The way I see it, there was always some meta Class or playstyle, even before Hybridization and Subclassing. Being unable to play the meta on any character isn't an excuse for not playing the meta, period — now, players are given more tools to adapt to the meta, rather than needing to level a new character to play the meta.

For the vast majority of people the meta also straight up doesn't matter.

Unless you're pushing trial trifectas build choice is still vast.

If you're suggesting what I think you're suggesting, I'm thinking you nay have missed an important point-- we can pick only one skill line from another class which isn't the character's main class. In other words, we couldn't pick all three of a new class's skill lines, or even two of them, unless the character was originally created as that new class in the first place. That would still let you use some of the new class's skills, but only the skills from a single skill line. If you wanted to use, say, some skills from one of the new class's skill lines, plus some skills from another of the new coass's skill lines, you'd be out of luck.
