Only if you have minion and set it to auto update.

    That's hella dangerous.

Addons do not automatically update. They only update if we choose to update them. Minion shows what addons have updates available but doesn't update them without the user clicking to do so.

I always just update and rarely go to the addon to see what changes were made. I suspect others do the same.

I always look at the change log before updating - there's been times I haven't updated certain ones because it's localization that doesn't apply to me. Eventually they add something other than languages, and then I update them.

Nope, not unless you actively set that up yourself. The way this "suddenly appears" is that the code is included in the addon in an update long before April 1st, and it's set so that when you log in and the calendar date is April 1st the code for the prank endeavor activates, showing you the stuff the endeavor asks you to do. If you haven't updated the addon yourself since before that code was added to it, then you don't get the April Fools prank.

I may be wrong, but I always have just assumed it is built into the add-on to happen on one given day. But I update my add-ons weekly so it could have happened during one of those updates. But I really doubt an add-on can update it itself without the user first initiating the update. And I usually never read the change log before I update my add-ons unless I’m very curious about what could have changed.

No, it just means that the code to do this has been waiting for the right time since you installed it.

This has been in the code for the addon for a bit. They are time based triggered events just like ZoS uses.

I really wish people would learn what their addons do.
    Never!

I shall install all the addons, launch the game, click away all the error messages and then play looking through that postage stamp size area not covered with addons.

After today there's 364 days left to make the next April Fools joke. People update their addons with Minion anyway and it does not need to be an update from today. "If" and "date" are perfectly valid things in programming.

    If $date == "4/1/2026" then cheesyLocalizations=true

The piece of code can sit inside the addon for any length of time, dormant, waiting. But once the condition is met (ie, date is correct), then it displays the text.

Will be interesting to see the non-forum-reading console folks today. First April Fool's Day ever with LWC. Someone has already referenced it in my guild's Discord chat this morning, though unsure if they realize it's from the add-on or thinks it's a ZOS thing (all they said was "Don't forget to do Pyrite's Gold, totally worth it!"). But why would you trigger something on the 4th of January?!?!

(Dealing with date/time in code is worse than trying to complete trifectas with a PUG...)

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to write dates in US format as a European? But as this is an American forum and Europeans can read US dates and the weird 12h clock they use, so, might as well localise it.

The one true unambiguous date format is big-endian YYYY/MM/DD.

European little-endian DD/MM/YYYY is stupid, makes no sense, and makes sorting difficult.

American mixed-endian MM/DD/YYYY is even more idiotic, but what can we expect from people who shun metric.

Also, the April Fool's code has been in Lazy Writ Crafter for at least a few months now, just waiting for the right date to activate.

As for updates, since @ArchMikem plays on console, yes, addons are automatically and forcibly updated, if you are a console player.

as far as i know, it just goes by the date. he does this for april 1st, dec 25th, oct 31st... all holidays that fall on the same date. so nothing for things like thanksgiving that would be a different date every year (or different month entirely depending on where you live)
