It's to coincide with the PvP tests starting today.

    Also to note:
The first 2 golden pursuits were PvE, this one only catches PvP up to be equal to PvE in how many GP there have been.

PvE pursuits would pull players out of Cyrodiil, which would hurt the goal of test.

I surmise that this one is to incentivise players to participate in the current test therefore it makes sense to be PvP centric.

I don't think is for PvP players per se because they usually have a lot of AP and little to spend it on.

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Golden_Pursuits

We've had 4 Golden Pursuits which could be completed entirely in PvE, and only one with any exclusive rewards which required PvP. This current one only awards gold and AP, it's basically just a bonus for participating in the current test.

Based on the ones we've seen so far it seems likely they'll usually tie into other things which are going on, especially events, so we might get one for the Jester's Festival, which will then be completable in PvE.

There have been Golden Pursuits for PvE players and there will be more after this PvP one. It's not as if you're missing out on a huge reward or a fancy cosmetic item.

TBH this is a pretty good opportunity for PvE players to actually try some PvP with the more basic templates and large groups you can follow and learn with.

It's only up for 7 days.
It contains no rewards of interest to people who have no interest in pvp.

Just sit this one out. It's that easy. We don't need multiple threads complaining about something that causes no harm to anybody. OR decide to help out during the stress test and be rewarded with currency you'd normally never aquire while doing so.

Golden pursuits are always launched after the consoles get the patch, so we will have another one with PvE after the Cyrodiiil stress test for sure, possibly next week.

Why not add both PvP and PvE missions separately so everyone can enjoy what they like most? I'm pretty sure there are a lot of PvP players who hate PvE, just like there are a lot of PvE players who hate PvP. So why can't we have both types of missions and make everyone happy?

Forcing PvE players into PvP just to participate in some kind of PvP test they don’t even care about? I'm sure having players who hate PvP in PvP tests makes perfect sense to someone… but not to me.

I don't see PvP players with PvP gear testing and trying to get trifectas! So why do PvE players have to go kill 150 players in Cyrodiil?

Why are PvE players always the ones forced into these PvP tests?

    edit:
But yeah… never mind. This is ESO, after all. "Play the way you like" turns into "Play the way others like."

The current Golden Pursuits campaign isn't about luring (or "forcing," as you put it) PvE players into participating in this PvP test of Cyrodiil. Rather, it's about luring as many PvP players as possible into participating in the test. That's why the rewards are Alliance Points (which most PvE players don't care about) and some small amount of gold equal to what one could easily earn in a short time by doing PvE activities in the game (such as doing daily crafting writs on a few characters, or stealing and fencing some items, etc.).

I know there are people who insist on taking things as a personal affront when ZOS does something they don't like, but you folks need to have patience.
Not everything in the game has to be for everyone at all times.

The PvP Pursuits have coincided with the Mayhem event with the last campaign, and now with the Cyrodiil testing, to incentivize people to take part in the testing.

Future Pursuit campaigns will, without a single doubt, return to having PvE options.

PvP players already do PvE in order to gear up for PvP. I mean, Rush of Agony is one of many PvE sets which is useful in PvP.

Why don't we have a Golden Pursuit that focuses on endgame PvE — things like Trial Hardmodes, Trial Trifectas, and so on? Nothing for 4-man Dungeons or Arenas; just Trials.

I obviously can't address these questions since I do not design the pursuits. All I can offer is my own opinion that you're making much ado about nothing; there will be more pursuits in the future and each individual is probably going to like some and dislike others. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new if the rewards are that desirable (there isn't even a unique reward for this pursuit). Or don't. Not everything in a big mmo like this is going to cater to each individual person at all times. Welcome to life. Good luck.

For whatever it's worth, I am not by any means a regular pvp'er... but I jumped into the test and followed a group around and finished the pursuit less than an hour after the test went live.

It's to reward players for testing PvP combat, so why would that involve PvE?

You're certainly not being forced into PvP when the reward is a bit of gold and AP. What would you even do with the AP if you're only interested in PvE?

Ok, so... why do you need to complete this one?

This is specifically a PvP test. The Golden Pursuit is designed to encourage people to go into Cyrodiil to test. They made sure that there is nothing PvE related rewarded besides gold (just do writs on your alts and you get just as much). If the goal of the game is "try to get as many people in Cyrodiil at once," then giving rewards outside of Cyrodiil specifically counters that goal, so yes it does hurt someone.

You have a choice to not participate. In fact, we'll be getting a PvE-centric event starting on Thursday that you can do instead which also lasts a week.

Having PvE pursuits would pull players out of Cyrodiil, even PvP players, in an effort to complete those pursuits. People hate missing out on stuff, even stuff they don't want or need, as today is making very clear. And pulling players out of Cyrodiil would harm the test. The test is about using a simplified set of skills and gear in Cyrodiil and seeing how many people you can pack into Cyrodiil without the server blowing up. So you literally need as many people as possible in Cyrodiil this week.

If the test had 100 diehard PvP players participate, it would not tell us much. But if test has 10000 players and 95% are like,, "God, I hate PvP. But combat was smooth and fast even with tons of people around and I got some extra AP," that is important info to have.

It's a stress test, so I assume they need as many players as possible, not only masters of PvP. So, it completely makes sense to have a Golden Pursuit that encourages people to go to Cyrodiil. They did not even add any unique rewards to avoid a backlash. And no, I do not PvP, so I will simply skip this one.

It would be nice if we could actually get in to Cyro though, all my guildies are moaning about the queue times!

It seems we cannot rely on the normal amount of crashes to reduce the queue quickly, so that's a bonus for those who got in early before the queues and a sign of a more stable Cyro!

Is someone from ZOS at your house today making you play in Cyrodiil and not letting you do anything else in the game? That would be forcing. If you normally don’t go to Cyrodiil when you play, don’t go there during this time either if you don’t want to. You’re free to play the way you want.
