Would you be happy with ESO implementing things from other IPs/Universes?

One of the missteps ZOS has made over the years is to try and make ESO a "jack of all trades" game. This has been a huge mistake in my view. We didn't need housing, companions, ToT, skill styles, skill colors, or the majority of crazy cosmetics.

As the saying goes, the jack of all trades is a master of none.

Vanilla ice cream is awesome, but a vanilla video game that's just like everything else out there is not.

Would people be upset if TES VI added a card game because ESO did it first, or is it only okay for the other TES games to introduce new features? When was the last time we received a new TES game, again?

We didn't always have housing in TES games, nor did we always have followers/Companions. ESO adopted many of those features introduced by older TES games while introducing some of its own — now we can expect future TES games to adopt features from ESO. That's how a franchise evolves over time; ESO is canon, and it is a legitimate entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise.

For Devs' consideration: Nowadays I see many games implementing characters, mounts and other stuff from different IPs/Universes, and even on this forum players request such things some times; this poll is meant to show how the playerbase feels about this.

Personally I am strongly against, but I know over time things change; the whole ESO population could change over the next 10 years. My hope is for Tamriel to remain Tamriel: I want to recognize Tamriel, not other worlds in ESO.

Players, let your voice be heard!

As long as it was all 80s themed. For example, game combat starts with the Airwolf theme playing in the background and your classes are those of the main characters in the A Team so 4 classes. Your ultimates are all care bears themed with things shooting from your chest like stars and rainbows.

Delve bosses are all 80s sitcom stars like the lady from Punky Brewster and John Stamos.

All group content and activities transform the group into the chipmunks or ducktales with the leader being either Alvin or Launchpad McQuack.

All mounts are either from my little pony or transformers.

Daedra would all be characters from the smurfs.

Molag Bal would be either captain caveman, Alf or Flo from Alice.

And every toon has one hairstyle option, the mullet.

Outside of this, I want no outside worlds in eso.

Yeah, a game often doesn't *need* those entries, but one game Fallout 4 introduced the settlement feature. Morrowind didn't have mounts or companions, while Oblivion introduced Mounts (and companions, pretty sure).

As time goes by, more and more game features get introduced into single player games. As devices to play the games on evolve so do the games themselves, so does the programming and programs used to create the games.

This allows features that would have, at one time, never been even thought to be able to exist within a game. Most of the time, for those who don't play online games, it seems as if each new game 'introduces' these features and then others run with it.

ESO is different in that it has been going on for 10 years, and getting updates. So, as everything I mentioned evolved, and as new mechanics were introduced into single player games (or even other multiplayer games) and found to be somewhat popular, ESO will do the same.

Honestly, I feel that ESO would be fairly boring if it were all 'one note' and didn't include a lot of the customization and minor activities.

Not to derail from the main topic, but since you mentioned, glad to see someone else feels this way. The ESO tracks are definitely way too epic for background tracks, Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim do the ambient tracks way better in that regard. I actually keep ESO music muted and often play the other game soundtracks in the background instead. Murkmire music is great though.

I'm going to reply to you with the assumption that you are talking about the combat soundtrack. I have to say the soundtrack in ESO is perfectly fine as is; they reflect the intense and fast-paced combat system which is a trait that the older single-player games lacked.

The combat in the previous Elder Scrolls games are extremely rudimentary and looks especially boring in first person. You are just clicking and watching a sword move from one side of the screen to the other whilst your opponent does the same. In that scenario, you don't need flared, swelling, and dramatic soundtracks. A little flare is good, but too much looks out of place.

As the combat system evolved, the music did as well. You can see this even in games like Dark Souls. Dark Souls I had a dynamic but slow combat system and so the boss music was contained but exciting, with the exception of bosses like Seathe or the Four Kings which where more faster.

Then you get to Elden Ring, faster in every aspect, more fleshed out combat mechanics, and enemies vary in movement and attack speed. Thus, the music changed in response becoming more faster.

ESO's combat soundtrack fits the new combat system while still retaining some elements from the old games in it's ambient background soundtrack. It works brilliantly, seriously. Try fighting Angof the Gravesinger, Molag Kena, or even another player with some of the Skyrim combat tracks playing and it feels... out of place. However, add in "All History is Vengeance" or "From Abysses Below and Beyond" and it sounds fitting.

No I'm talking about the ambient tracks, what you hear walking around town and traversing a zone.

I think something like IA lends itself to the possibility of crossover with other IPs. We're about to get to fight The Nameless King from DSIII in an Elden Ring game. I'd love to get to the cycle boss and have The Nameless King or Ganondorf show up. Outside of IA, probably not.

Don't the bosses from IA come from trials and dungeons though? If so it wouldn't make sense for it to have 'crossovers'.

Right? Not sure how this thread is still going tbh.

I can't see the harm of this thread or why it should stop going. It's made to show devs what the playerbase thinks, and over time results of the poll could change. Aside from my personal opinion, is always good to gather these kind of informations; whatever the results are, they are always useful.

I started this because FF14 is a strong competitor of ESO and it adds a ton of crossovers with other Square titles, and its playerbase spends tons of money to get those items.
ESO Devs/marketing/whoever could see this and think it would be good for ESO to do the same.
If you are not seeing this happening, you are willingly blind to the fact. Other games already do this, not just "Fortnite".

WHY OPPOSE TO THIS THREAD? Is beyond me...

Why? Because I think it’s an asinine question, and the idea of pop culture crossovers a la Fortnite in this game would be incredibly silly. It wouldn’t keep with the theme, and it’s gratifying to see that most people seem to regard this as a nonstarter and not in keeping with the setting, etc.

Agree in appreciating how the poll results are for now, but I specify that I wasn't thinking of general pop cultures crossovers when I made this thread. I was thinking more about Bethesda IPs or, since right now it's all Microsoft, Xbox IPs.
Someone said they would enjoy a crossover with something like The Witcher because the theme is fitting - Fable (Microsoft as ESO) is somewhat on the spectrum of Elder Scrolls, so I could see in the future some Easter Egg or crossover...

@TaSheen, I understand that you aren’t interested in other games, but many of us are. That doesn’t change that it’d be incredibly silly to have Geralt or Master Chief or Star Fox in ESO. As someone already noted, there’s a long history of easter eggs in TES. I can’t stress enough how much I dislike this idea.

Because I'm perfectly happy in TES, and looking at other games just makes me go "ewww no thanks". I'm never bored.... not one day in my entire 77 years of life.

TES is my "home universe" - has been since Arena released in 1994. That'll never change - if overland gets to be too hard after the changes, I'll just go back to Skyrim and Oblivion.... and TES VI IF they ever bother to finish it.

There was a datamined Fallout vault suit costume a while back.

If you knew what you were looking at, there was no doubt as to what it was a nod to, but if you didn't then it would just seem like a normal in-universe costume.

Overall it seemed subtle and well-designed - a nice easter egg but also respectful of the Elder Scrolls universe.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing more takes like this, or things "inspired by", but it's hard to say where to draw that line. Limiting to Zenimax's own IP's would probably be safe.

Definitely not against it, but it would have to be done respectfully. Important not too take it too seriously though - at the end of the day, people play it to have fun.

Subtle Easter eggs referencing other things are fine so long as it is cleverly part of the ES world, and there are actually quite a lot of these within ESO. "Crossover content" however is a very different thing entirely that should not exist in any immersive roleplaying games like Elder Scrolls.

I already find many of the mounts and armor designs to be jarring and unfitting with the setting. I've only just begun to appreciate the game again, but this would just send me back to the single-player titles.

The draw of Elder Scrolls is its dedication to fantasy; an alternate world with its own internally-consistent rules and traits. If it loses that, it is no longer Elder Scrolls, and no longer something I would want to play.

For example, this is how it should be done (NPC in Hew's Bane dressed similarly to Link):
