Greatswords in this game, like already said, tend to be proper GW or better zweihänder:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zweihänder

But there probably is some '***' sword in game

Go in game, use a BSmith station and have a look at the preview, while not ideal you can see they are both pretty shorter than Imperial

getting the motifs well that's another matter...

Indeed it certainly does look better, I will do my best to acquire the motifs and will post a photo for you when I can. Thank you greatly for your help my friend!

Vaerth, you are basing your ideal of a 2 handed sword on Hollywood imagery that is not realistic. Having trained with and used real swords, I can tell you ESO gets it exactly right! The grip animation and handle size is absolutely perfect to real life sword techniques.
In real life your top hand is on the top of the handle, your bottom hand is on the pommel (palm-el, get it?) this is exactly how its shown in ESO, true to real life.
In Hollywood they hold small handeled swords with their hands together like a baseball bat because they are actors/models striking a pose with no Fing clue how to use a sword.
One of the first things I noticed at level 2 playing was this is the first MMO to ever get that right. Its simply awesome.

I would recommend you change your mind about what looks cool instead of attempting some strange quest to adopt the misconceptions put forth by Hollywood wussys who would drop their blade with a broken wrist after 5 seconds fighting a proper swordsman. Just my 2¢ as a gamer and a fighter.

It's a video game. In a fantasy world. With magic.

We want to look cool. :p

But your idea of cool is a regurgitation of limp wristed hollywood fluff where as what is already in game is 1500 years of real life decapitating coolness.

The messed thing is if hollywood actors had wrists like professional baseball players they could wield the swords correctly.

If you swung a greatsword like a baseball bat swing a real fighter would step out of reach, let you miss, then step in and kill you while youre off balance from whiffing with 5 lbs of steel.

I did not ask for your opinion on what is cool. Clearly we are DIFFERENT people and, (get this) have different likes. Not only did you go off topic, but you are trying to tell me what is cool based on YOUR thoughts.

Please do not ruin my thread anymore than you have. You added no information that helps what we are looking for. If you like the way it is, great, enjoy! I however do not like that style, and in a fantasy MMO where we play how we choose, I will be doing just that regardless of your opinions.

    Thanks

Guess you have a bone to grind with the "Cleave" ability in the 2h sword skill line, as this is exactly what happens (Swings the sword like a baseball bat hitting all enemies in front of your character)

Yea you can do the conversion on any character, but it makes the item account bound (so you can only do it for yourself, can't give other people imperial gear unless you craft it on an imperial character or have the motif learned).
Wow, really? That makes me feel a lot better about the Imperial Edition actually.

What I haven't figured out is drops. Some drops I can convert Imperial and others I can't. Any crafted item I can convert, though.

First of all, you're not looking for a greatsword. You're looking for a b.astard sword. Those are one of the most versatile weapons out there since they can be held (assuming its wielder has the physical strength) in one hand, but can also be used two-handed. Therefore they have a shorter hilt.
Now, greatswords on the other hand have a much larger hilt; and in return a much larger blade. Looking at one of the pictures you provided, the dragonbone greatsword; please clarify how one would be able to wield that blade. He'd have to place his hands awkwardly close together on the hilt and could therefore barely swing it, let alone control it or dare to attempt to block with it.
Now let's take a look at the Breton greatsword, the one from the starter areas. It has a huge hilt indeed, but that allows your character to have a comfortable grip and use it appropriately.
A small advice: get an orcish crafting motif and take a look at the greatsword. It's beautiful. I have an orichalum one right now and it's an exceptionally pretty weapon. The hilt isn't as huge as the breton one, but the blade itself is also rather slim.

I looked through many swords and found none of them have the smaller hilt that I was looking for. My character is pretty much a bust now, lol. There can be no perfect build for me now :(

It is just my opinion of course, but I prefer the b.astard sword style over the massive hilt of the greatsword.

I like Redguard 2H swords. They have curved blades. Curved. Blades.

No, seriously, I'm a big fan of their look, but can't log on right now to grab a shot.
Every time someone swears, it gets replaced with three asterisks. There's only one three-letter swear word that I know of. I read that in the place of every set of three asterisks. It makes for some amusing sentences.

They're really fun to watch swinging around. Reminds me of Morgan Freeman in Robin Hood. Huge curved sword.

Both points completely legitimate. Nobody is wrong, heheh.

The Redguard sword has a large hilt as well, like the Daedric one. Anyone have a pic of the Daedric Greatsword?

A month later and I never found a two handed weapon that I liked. That sucks. Guess I will cancel my sub until the game gets more weapon types. :(

That's your deal-breaker? That the game uses more realistic weapon models? Weapons that big are made of metal, and typically very heavy. Having a hilt just big enough for the hands would probably get you broken wrists. The longer hilt is needed so that you can have leverage to control the weapon vs just swinging and letting momentum have control.

But seriously... That is the silliest "I quit" reason I have ever seen. In any game.

I am sure it, but you see, I play games like this for RP reasons. I like the Ranger style with a two handed sword that is not a greatsword. I just can not get in to my character for the life of me. I have tried everything to "force" it to work out. But no, it does not. I am forced to use a GREAT sword or no two handed swords. Sorry, but I do prefer the greatswords in Skyrim, LOTR, etc.

I PERSONALLY do not like a single two handed weapon in this game. The one that got closest to working was the Primal Greatsword. But in the end, I just could not be happy. I want a two handed sword that is NOT a greatsword. I want more of a one and a half sword, or bastar.d sword. This is the first game I have ever played that ONLY offered greatswords for two handed swords. Most offer both. This is to restricted for me, personally.
