Two Handed Swords With Small Hilts? Pictures? PLEASE Help!

I love the idea of being a Ranger style Nightblade with a greatsword and 2nd weapon being a bow. However I can not stand the hilts on the Greatswords in this game. I have yet to find a Greatsword that is not 40% hilt and 60% blade. When I think of a 2 handed sword, I think of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings, lol. I was hoping for a sword with a hilt a little smaller than the average swords (starter areas). The sword you start off with in the game (the 2H sword) has a HUGE hilt/handle that I could not bare using it. I expected ESO to have different weapon styles than Skyrim, but this is much more than I though. If you look at the handles of 2 hand weapons in Skyrim and compare to ESO, you see that the hilts in ESO are VERY long and take up nearly half a greatsword.

My question: Has anyone found a 2 handed sword that is not half a hilt with a blade? Are there any swords with a handle like Skyrim's Dragonbone Greatsword? Or better yet, ANY greatsword with a smaller hilt in general?

If you can post any pictures of a greatsword with a hilt that is not oversized I would GREATLY appreciate it!

What youre thinking of is actually a hand and a half sword, which is designed to be alternately used with one or both hands on the hilt. True greatswords require both hands and a larger hilt.

Personally id say that the hilts on 2h weapons in eso arent big enough.

I'm not sure you'll be able to as the grip animation is pretty far apart - meaning the handle has to be long-ish

Gotta check tonight, but I seem to remember that the grip on hammers and axes has the hands closer, but I could be wrong

Hey Shimond!

Here to help me out again I see! Thanks a lot for the insight, I figured as much but was hopeful enough to ask. I guess I will have to be just another one of the countless dual wielders out there. My characters vision was a 2 handed sword, with a hilt that I felt was "normal". I could settle on bigger than average hilts, but what I have seen is just far from what I know and like.

Yes, I am very picky about weapon looks and animations of my characters. That applies to all games I play as well lol.

Have you seen an Imperial greatsword? That might be more the style you're looking for (not really sure, I do recall liking those visually a lot).

I want to say the grip changes a bit during animation (sometimes I swear I'm swinging it with only one hand actually on the grip) but the standard "draw weapon and stand there" for greatswords had that odd far apart grip. I don't know if it's different altogether on battleaxes and mauls, as I don't typically use them.

Yea that's definitely the Imperial one (not just cause it says so on the link, but I'm familiar with it).

I do have the Imperial edition, can I craft this greatsword on my non imperial races though?

You can transform any weapon or armour by right clicking it and select turn into imperial style

PS I haven't tried this on a race different from imperial though,sorry,

Yea you can do the conversion on any character, but it makes the item account bound (so you can only do it for yourself, can't give other people imperial gear unless you craft it on an imperial character or have the motif learned).

I'll let you know what I find. It is likely that you'll see more styles later on, as different level ranges can change the look of gear.

@Vaerth‌ The search for the short hilt in game isn't going well, my liege.

But looking at the different styles at a forge (by unchecking have knowledge and have materials) I noticed two that can fit the bill: ancient elf and barbaric

I checked out the Imperial Greatsword. The hilt was still large, but not AS bad, still not what we are seeking though

I do not have the Mostif for Ancient Elf or Barbaric, maybe I can find someone with it to post a picture for us. If I find anything else I will post here with a picture for you. So far nothing fits the bill.

Go in game, use a BSmith station and have a look at the preview, while not ideal you can see they are both pretty shorter than Imperial

getting the motifs well that's another matter...

Indeed, since greatswords by definition have longer hilts, I am not noticing many options for what you are looking for.
