Closing Forum Post

I may be over reacting however I see alot of forum post being closed due to being old and ZOS requesting to "start a new post on the topic".
The one thing I see is that the original post question was never answered or responded to on any level.

Rather than close "old threads", how about just answering the question the community has?

It makes zero sense to open a new thread on the same issue that was never resolved.

Forum mods have nothing to do with the game. All they do is moderate the forums (including closing old threads). If the Devs do not respond to a thread, the mod don't check with them, they just moderate the forums.

I can agree with that, I just don't understand why tell folks to start a new thread. They are trying to revive due to being non answered to begin with.

Some of the post they close are truly dead and need the moderation, some though just died off to the community giving up.

They close it so that old information and opinions aren't shown as new. You can always link the old thread if you feel it is still relevant.

    Different forums have different rules.

Some forums prefer you to post in an old topic instead of creating a repeat thread.

Others prefer new threads instead of reviving old ones.

Both are done for different reasons; the former seeks to centralize discussions into a common location while the latter seeks to ensure that discussions are time relevant.

Neither are perfect, since again; the former means that comments can become outdated and certain topics can die when new threads just get insta-closed while the one open thread falls to the back of the forum pages, while the latter can mean closing completely valid threads simply because the topic fell out of favour for a period of time.

I'm pretty sure it's been said in the past they prefer new threads to be started so people are working with current information on whatever the topic at hand is.

I’ve heard that it’s done to prevent confusion, which I haven’t seen expressed here. If anything, seems like a topic gets brought up because it was never resolved or is still relevant. My thing is, if someone says it’s still an issue or it’s an evergreen topic, just leave it alone. Be reasonable with us. Here's a great example. It's just a suggestion that someone found still relevant.

And really, if preventing confusion around outdated information is so important, then close combat threads after each patch because something might’ve changed. If it’s such a big deal, then automatically close threads after a year of inactivity.

It just seems like someone’s given a rule and that’s it. Needs to change.

Yes, it just looks like blind enforcement of the forum rules, but no use of common sense to keep relevant threads open. The only threads that remain open for long periods are those used to "quarantine" large numbers of opinions on topics, and that's done only for ZOS' convenience as far as I can see, not ours.

Personally I have no problem with old threads being closed, whereas I do have a problem with the Mods closing current threads at the request of the OP just because the discussion hasn't turned out the way the OP expected, i.e. other players disagreed with their point of view.

Yeah. On the one hand, I get it because they don't want anyone spammed with notifications that they don't want. On the other hand, once a thread is made there's multiple people having a conversation and they may not be done with it. Also, sometimes developer posts get lost due to that.

    Edit

They get lost because closed threads often don't turn up in forum search. Sometimes you can still find it on Google.

please stop closing threads deemed “necro” when their continued conversation is relevant.

“necro” is commenting on “dead” threads which brings them back to life.

Many players and forum users are newer to the game, ie: They lack history with in-game issues.

Being made to start a new thread for an old issue that was never resolved just makes the issue look 'new', and helps to obscure that fact that the issue was never resolved.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.
