ZOS deliberately plays with it. Look at the quest in Nchuthnkarst on Vvardenfell......where the whole story revolves around the Vanos siblings being accidentally teleported through time and the player character rescuing them. Raynor is teleported into the past and lives with the Dwemer for some time (of course he wants to tell us about the amazing things he saw - but then suffers from amnesia), while Kireth is transported to the future and sees the results of the fall of Baar Dau.

Don't worry, ZOS has probably already forgotten about it, too...
But seriously: I remember it because I found it well-written. And a little cruel - they could at least have given us a bit to see! I don't expect them to tell us everything about the disappearance of the Dwemer, but they could have given us a little glimpse at their society while it still existed, at least. Or maybe a living Dwemer teleported into the current time for a few moments, who we could have talked to. At least a few words.
