This path works for me consistently, the only thing that can thwart me is bad RNG, eg. A zombie right in the way at the start.

The lack of a minimap on console makes it impossible for me to tell which way I need to go. I think I’m stuck at 3/5. Those zombies can overtake me and do damage before I even see them.

to deal with the hushed guys chasing, usually just use number 3 skill on cooldown, as it keeps you equal or faster than them, and if you are doing it solo, just hit the number 5 skill on cooldown (since your solo they should always be following you)

if you see one in front of you, the number 4 skill to stun and then drop number 5 skill on top of it and it should almost kill it before stun wears off

at level 3 you should still have enough hp to take a few hits and be ok, level 5 you only have like 4500 hp so 3 hits is basically the max you can take from the hushed

if you are an orc or imperial, you can heal by dealing dmg through the racial passives, and argonian racial passives still work to use a potion to get a heal

Well I mention the map because I keep going in circles not knowing where I am and I’m going slow so those zombies do catch up with me. The number 5 skill seems to have a really long cooldown but I keep hitting it. You have to wait for those tentacles and maybe that’s where they get me. I just think it’s got to be easier with a map.

full disclosure, i dont use a minimap addon even though im on PC lol

the way i usually handle this is i always go left to start and then make my way to the outer edge of the map and then follow that clockwise, hitting 2 to see where tomeshells are (majority of them are on the outer edge anyway), the inner section is more dangerous as it has more whirlwinds (most of which are persistent and do not despawn)

the 5 skill is fine on its cooldown mostly because it also slows the enemies down that it is hitting

there is still an unlucky factor, like getting cornered between a whirlwind and a tentacle and then a hushed runs around a corner, or turn the corner too fast right into a tentacle slap (which on level 5 is a 1 shot), had many a times when that happened too lol, the margin for error is a lot slimmer on level 5 with only 4500 hp

Now that I have all the achievements for the bonus portals I pretty much ignore them. The only one will I actually do is the "collect book bindings" one, the rest are a hard pass for me now.

At first I kinda liked being a daedric octopus just because of the novelty and all of the tentatcles, but after completing it at all difficulty levels to unlock the permanent upgrade, I don't even do this one anymore. It's not a fun minigame and it is not worth taking the time to complete unless someone needs it for the permanent upgrade unlock.

a great example of a fun minigame is the goat/butcher encounter. I don't know why, but that one is a lot of fun and I do it every time it comes up. It's just entertaining!

bonus portals are one of the primary ways to get stuff like furnishing blueprints and leads

the only other places that those can drop are from marauders (which you dont see in arc 1), random scamps, and tho'at

i think it would be nice if they added an option while in the archive which let you choose the difficulty of the bonus portals, and scale the fortune rewards based on the difficulty (like from the main archive area, can only be done before run is started)

right now the rewards for doing the bonus portals are the same, but it just makes the minigame more difficult over time with the same rewards

if it had some scaling amount of fortunes for the rewards, such as level 1 is the base amount, and then level 5 is +100% (so basically +20% more fortunes per difficulty level), it would give everyone the option to do what they wanted

If you get a side wing that you don’t want to do, you can just turn around and go back through the portal, no need to waste time starting and dying. There are many I skip when running solo as the odds of success are too low to be worth the time and aggravation.

IMHO, this is one of several side portals that is much better balanced for a duo, as if one of you gets unlucky, the other may still be able to rez or complete.

Oh, sorry to keep pinging you! I don’t see a way to stop following a thread that you’ve created. :(

And by now you are a master of the tentacular form! No tomeshells can escape you!

Well, TBH, sometimes we just make a run for the urns and die after that.

Not counting collecting things secret room, there are:
    two fun and easy minigames:
    - goat
    - corridor (with Cowards+Fjiords gear you can make it just in time solo)
one fun and medium difficulty minigame:
    - gathering lights (again, doable in sprinting gear)
    one boring hard minigame:
    - duelist. of course, it is soloable, but it takes enormous amount of time to solo, also high lag most likely kills you
    one very hard frustrating minigame:
    - watcher & bookshells (i prefer to quit at the very beginning, not to spoil my mood)

this makes wonder if Zeni employees even play this "watcher" minigame, and, if yes, do they actually find it bringing fun, but not frustration?
otherwise it (the said minigame) could be "fine-tuned" (i hope game can provide with stats like % of success fail and skip). generally if game makers do care about statistics, and players opinions and suggestions?
Sorry, ZOS. i was to say that. watcher minigame is no fun at all for me :(

Looking at your tier list; why are you wearing sprinting gear for the ghost lights? Speed is not the trick there, going slow and steady is the way to do it. Gather two or more comfortably and walk back to the center and then rinse repeat, sprint gear would only make the ghost lights leash easier.

As for the corridor, I've never needed to change my gear to make it through, even with heavy armour, the steed's passive from the green tree is enough to make it through with no issues.

Hard agree with the Arena of War though, now that I have all the Style Pages and don't really need any leads; still need furniture though; I will 99% of the time spin around and hit that portal. Not for lack of skill or ability, I've literally soloed it on all my characters, but because it's not worth my time to do it.

Now, onto the meat and potatoes of your argument, the filer wing. I actually like that the filer wing isn't an insta-win, we have enough of those, the peril and dangers make it a fun engaging experience where beating it even after making a mistake and having your screen flashing red the entire time is a good feeling, I don't want rank 5 nerfed in the least, it's the only real fun I have in the side portals anymore.
