Lockout and Compensation Thoughts

Just want to echo some sentiment here and from around the forums, I know I'm probably gonna get flamed as "You're ungrateful! You got 16k seals! You got a free account!!" but anyway.

At the time, the compensation package was amazing, but this was when we thought we were going to get at least a couple of days in-game afterwards to see what was what, and perhaps attempt to recoup some losses. Hell, we would have had the opportunity to buy event tickets if we felt so strongly about it. Instead. a lot of us missed out on the other rewards of the event, such as getting the cake slices for the new achievements - not to mention the 30+ tickets - that were not included in the compensation package.

A reminder as well that these players who got locked out are more than likely on the "bleeding edge" - prepared to test PTS content in Hour 1, let alone Day 1, of the update (my group were just about to open the door of Lucent Citadel before we got booted), and more than likely highly optimized during this event, doing writs on a full suite of characters, even across both servers. We missed out on thousands of purple boxes and the rewards within, and honestly, I don't think the compensation package covers that anymore. I've heard a lot of people replying with "well, you got a free account, just do writs on that", not realising how much time and effort goes into creating a system that is capable of doing writs to that original calibre - the event would be over before it was ready. ZOS themselves even said "this account is not intended to replace your locked account" - so what do they want me to do with it now? Give it away?

I've seen people also point out the other problems with being locked out for so long - lead expiration, mail expiration, guild inactivity, loss of daily rewards, the list goes on. It's frustrating that none of this has been addressed, and the lack of update or self-assessment since the original compensation plan is really disappointing, especially since at the start, ZOS had made a big deal of "we will make this right". Right now, it just reads that they want to sweep this firmly under the rug and let this event be forgotten about.

While I acknowledge that were at least given something, and that something is worth a lot, I would have preferred that a little more thought went into the compensation package, especially with some incredibly low-hanging fruit like the cake slices which could have been added alongside the mount. I need a courtesy car that gets me to work in the morning, not a Ferrari.

This is especially true since the event is a good source of rare alchemy mats for heroism potions. What was once something that only a few score-pushing groups used, ZOS balancing the latest trial hard modes around what those kinds of groups can do has led to more and more people feeling compelled to use these things as well (the plunder from a vet trial is enough to buy a single potion).

Of course, there can be a discussion about the root cause of this problem (rarity of the material and content balancing that pushes players to seek out power wherever they can), but this serves to illustrate how the rewards from the Anniversary Event are the kinds of rewards that can offer power and can impact gameplay. Unlike the cosmetics that are typically associated with endeavors.
