Retroactively qualify for old cakes, please

I started playing in the year of Greymoor, just weeks before the anniversary. As I was so new, I was clueless about events, and I didn't eat the cake. Now I can see the cake at the Impresario's during anniversary each year, but I can never buy it :'(

And I'm still a relatively new player; there are people out there who have played forever but missed an anniversary once for some reason. As we all want to have our cake and eat it too, maybe cake eligibility could be attained after the fact, somehow, one day.

I'd argue it would still be special: I was there. Had I started only last year, I'd feel less "entitled" to the older stuff.

On a related note, I don't know if newer players see all the cake history – preferably they wouldn't, it's not nice to look at a redded-out list of things you can never unlock.

I don’t care about the furnishings so much, but if ZOS expects me to burn time and/or tickets on an achievement that’s literally impossible for me to complete, then let my eternally untouched cake slice achievements stand as a rebuke.

Anyone could buy cake slices with 1 ticket each to complete the achievement. Actually taking a slice from a cake does nothing to satisfy the achievement requirements. So, what are you talking about, exactly? Have I missed something? The only thing you can't do is buy a cake furnishing if you did not get a quest cake in the year(s) it came out.

This is correct. It doesnt matter if you just started playing or playing since beta. Eating the old cakes youve collected does not unlock the achievement. Everyone has to go to the Impresario and spend 1 ticket each slice to unlock the achievement. If its the momento youre after... I have no words for such a complaint. LOL

Yup they set this event so that 22 of your tickets had to be used for cake slices and 3e confetti...was a *** move.

I like the idea that people can qualify for cakes based on their account age rather than if they did the quest or not.

Agreed! I really wish that I could buy the 2020 cake at least. I started in 2019 but wasn’t playing during that anniversary because rl stuff going on at the time. :pensive:

Incorrect, the slices for the years you don’t qualify for are unavailable too. So no cake slice achievement* if you weren’t around for every Anniversary celebration.

*I’m aware there are sub-achievements for each year, I didn’t bother with those either since the overarching one is impossible.

I’m not sure what achievement you’re talking about. You can buy the cake slice furnishings for every year and buying one of each is how you get the Cake Devourer achievement.

I agree that the cake should be available to anyone who was playing that year, if they missed it there should be a way to get it later because there will be all kinds of situations like the OP mentioned where someone did qualify to get it but missed one or more of the specific steps to unlock it.

I had a similar problem in an older MMO, they did a special hat every year but it was only available on New Years Day. I never got it because that was the one day of the year I'd never be at home and so couldn't log in. To be honest I didn't even want all the hats (although some were nice), but more than once someone accused me of lying about when I'd started or which years I'd played because I couldn't show the hat which was only actually available for one day out of that year.

There are prereq achievements for each cake slice. (See the sidebar on the page I linked or look at it in your achievements next time you’re in game.) They’re worth about five points each. And no, you can’t buy the slices for the years you missed, they’re red in the Impresario’s UI like everything else you can’t buy.

No, there are no restrictions to the 1-ticket replica slices needed for the achievement. A fresh alt account with no prior Anniversary experience can buy all the slices if they wanted to.

The replica cakes (not slices!) are restricted (and always have been), but that's different.

Wrong. I was not here for the first cake, but I could buy the slice, just not the cake. I think you need to check again next year.

    I can corroborate this.

I started playing when Epic gave ESO away for free last year, and never participated in the Jubilee before, and I got the cake Devourer by buying one each of the cake slices from the Impresario.

The only full cake I have is this year's cake.

If I can remember it, I will try to get a screen shot of the achievement when I get back in game.

As for being able to get the previous years' cakes? I would love it (some of them are gorgeous and I love food deco, especially sweets) but I can also understand why I probably will never get it. (I personally don't care about mementos, just would love to be able to get the full cake house decorations)

Perhaps you checked when you hadn’t any tickets available? Otherwise, all should have been available for purchase. Sucks you’ll probably have to wait until next year to buy them now, unless they make some of these events still purchasable next event for players who were locked out and maybe didn’t get a chance to buy.

That should have blocked them all, though. I saw that the ones from the years I missed specifically were unavailable and that’s what made me skip chasing the achievements for it. 🤔 Addon maybe?

Whatever. 🤷‍♀️ Between the style page grind, the PTS and everything else I didn’t really need yet another thing to worry about during the event anyway. Next year will be fine.

That’s really weird! I’m out of ideas. I would say submit a ticket if you can’t buy them next year, but hopefully whatever caused the issue for you will be fixed by then anyway!

I’ve enjoyed many of the things added to events and the extra bonus celebration events this year, but it’s unfortunate there’s been so many problems as well! :(

I actually missed the whole cake slice achievement 0.0 googled it now that it came up here! Guess that will be something for me to look forward to this time next year.

As for old cakes... I'm not particularly for or against making all cakes available to all players regardless of account age. I don't personally need to have access to things which happened before my time, but I also don't feel like it makes my time in the game any less special if someone else does. So everything goes as far as I'm concerned.

But I do rather wish the cakes in question were granted based on "years present" rather than event participation, at least. There are any number of reasons why events could have been missed.

I've been playing on and off since launch and haven't been able to fully play every anniversary event. I had two severely injured hands one year. But have managed to at least claim all of the cakes.

I'd be perfectly happy for everyone to be allowed them. Especially since there are associated furnishings and not a lot of alternatives in the cake department.

It would fly in the face of ZO's historic treatment of "special" LIMITED TIME ONLY stuff and that of most developers but they're owned by Microsoft now. Maybe this is possible.

And the cake slice achievement struck me as kind of an odd one. Perhaps allowing all players to buy those slices was a little step in this direction.
