Will we be able to check the scribing feature in PTS before the official Gold Road release? I did pre-order it.

    the pts for a patch usually starts about 6-7 weeks before the PC release date

    usually for the first week or 2, its accessible to everyone

    by weeks 3 or 4 they usually enable it so you have to have gold road on your account to actually test the functions

    @ZOS_Kevin It would be greatly appreciated to have some slightly more detailed info on each skill being implemented with scribing, given out early (in an official announcement of course) so that the community can look to provide some early feedback on things while there's still some time to perhaps redesign things that could become problematic and to create that communication and understanding between the team and the community about what the goals are for scribing and those abilities.

    It doesn't need to be super detailed, but things like what each skill does (or at the minimum what each skill is trying to do/be in the devs minds, sort of like an early developer comment on the design/goal for each ability) so that we (the community) can be on board and understand what the goals are for these skills/system and avoid a repeat of something like what happened with the sorcerer class set from U40 last year, where the design of the set was just so awkward/unsynergetic that it ended up basically unusable, even in roleplay or for fun aspects, and by the time it got to PTS, it was too late to provide any meaningful feedback that would have allowed for a proper fix for that set to be made, tested and further adjusted within that short PTS timeframe.

    For example:
    Mages Guild Scribed Skill:

    "Magical Blast"
    Focus your magical essence to launch a bolt of magical energy at your enemy dealing X damage applying Y effect with Z bonus.

    X, Y and Z are determined by what effects are chosen when the skill is created at the scribing table.

    DEV Comment:
    The aim of this skill is to facilitate the potential for a mage playstyle to be possible for any class by giving the globally available mages guild skill line an ability that matches a standard spammable ability e.g. the fighters guild ability silver shards that is currently globally available for all stamina characters that doesn't require slotting a specific weapon to have access to it.

    A couple of things that doing this helps with, is that despite how much effort the team puts into predicting/finding interactions, there will always be something missed that the wider community will always find, that could cause balance issues down the line (e.g. savage werewolf being able to work with ranged light attacks or heavy attack sets being combined to create the DK 1 shot builds, etc), it also helps to create hype over the new system as players get excited about the possible combinations, interactions and ideas they might be able to come up with and that's always a good thing.

    Apr 5/6's in person 10 year anniversary event already has a schedule in which they said they would be going over a preview for Scribing. I heard from a content creator that they will be able to try it out.

    Apr 5 is probably when we'll get a sneak peak, unless there is some embargo, content creators should have some impressions to give.

    In the past, ZOS allowed content creators pre-recorded footage that only gave a brief glimpse of things to come, none of their own footage was allowed until the PTS dropped. However, they were allowed to give their notes on what they saw, but were asked to not use specific numbers for things like sets or skills because they weren't final. I'm guessing this is what will happen this year.

    They did this so content creators had weeks to plan and prepare their videos for the same release window as ZOS's official announcements. Smart marketing.

    We'll probably get some posts in Week 2/3 of April explaining the design philosophy of the system and maybe some more detailed examples of grimoires and effects you can choose like they did for Soul Touch. Maybe go over how some of them are unlocked, some lore behind the quests, npcs, zones, etc. It will probably announce when to tune into the PTS preview live stream and some drops you can earn.

    Based on previous years, this is my guess as the upcoming schedule regarding the chapter:
    • June 3 (Mon) - Chapter
    • Apr 22 (Mon) - PTS Live
    • Apr 15-19 (Mon-Fri) - Posts to highlight chapter major features, Trial/Zone/NPCs/Story, build hype for Monday's stream
    • Apr 8-12 (Mon-Fri) - Review of 10th anniversary event, sneak peek at Scribing/Skill Styling
    • Apr 5/6 (Fri-Sat) - Live 10th Anniversary Event
    (This is purely speculation based on past years)

    I would be very surprised if they showed off anything specific regarding the new systems before April and the 10th Anniversary event.

    Edit: You seem to be right. For whatever reason, the Chapter PTS's are 7 weeks instead of 6 weeks. I suppose they add an extra week because it's a chapter, but I never noticed it before. Everyone always just says 6 weeks.

    U41/U40 were 6 weeks, but these chapters were as follows:

    Necrom PTS = Apr 17 2023
    Necrom Live = June 5 2023

    High Isle PTS = Apr 18 2022
    Hish Isle Live = June 6 2022

    The thing i'm most worried about is the grimoires.

    Vault is borderline useless in PvE because of the forced movement, which means the bow grimoire is bad, which means you probably don't want to run bow.

    All it will take is some enforced cast time or janky animation and one of the few skills available at launch of the new system will just be ruled out.
    Don't try and make the grimoires "flashy" make them functional

    Same. I'm sure we'll have more than enough copy/pasta dot/spammable, etc, generic skills. I want skills that do something different. Vault is a great first showcase and fits right at home on Bow which is an elusive weapon, missing a movement ability. Love it so far.

    I hope the other skills fill in the gaps present of other lines like Destro not having a buff skill, 2H not having a CC, mages guild not having a spammable, etc.

    Firing an arrow into the ground to do a backflip is nutty. There's no recoil like that in a bow and arrow.

    Id rather have arrows that morph into something, like a bright flaming bird, or something. That wld be cool.

    I'm a bit conflicted when it comes to the "vault" skill...
    Will it feel like a self-stun or is it fast enough to be useful.

    If I'd be able to make this skill it would act more like dodge but double the distance. Make you able to choose direction as the speed would be like finishing a normal dodge (speed basically twice as fast).

    This would more live into the fantasy of an acrobaticarcher. The "damage" of shooting the ground would be the same as the original idea.

    I do not like Smash having a cast time. I don't need to see the skill in action to know it will have annoying desync issues because the other 2h skills with cast times already have them.

    Because the first thing I thought of was trying to use the bow in SS Nahvi HM and yeeting yourself into the fire wall and instantly dying. Or yeet yourself into the dragon’s breath and die. Or yeet yourself into the OT’s murder aoe city and die. Or yeet yourself into the dragon and die.

    It may be cool for RP reasons but for using the bow ability in PvE content… it’s gonna be bad. Yeet yourself off the edge in DoM, yeet yourself off the edge in SS, yeet yourself off the edge in LoM, yeet yourself off the edge in SH… yeet yourself out of flare or trap in CR, SS, and SH…

    Maybe it’ll help in PvP as a direct damage reverse gap closer (gap opener?)… as long as you’re not on something you’ll fall off of….

    Please tell us this is going to be PvE only. Please. PvP is already messed up and unbalanced enough. How can ZOS even be looking at the future when the present is so messed up? We can't even play in Cyrodiil right now due to the rollbacks and resets.

    They of course will be usable in PVP, Another skill line for everyone regardless of class? One of them is from the Assault Tree FYI.

    Our opinions on balance are a non-factor save for anything game-breaking we report. We will have to roll with the changes and give constructive feedback and the world will keep spinning.
