Couldn't they use the same mechanic they use for the tutorial? When you roll an alt, you get a choice to do the tutorial or skip it.

I'd be fine with having an alt need to go fetch a new companion and if they've been unlocked, br able to start traveling with them and pretending i did the intro quest on this character.
