There was a big feedback post in the PTS forums that was ignored by ZOS since the PTS for Update 42 launched.
Everyone agreed that this is a bad, bad move that betrays the purpose of ths outfitting menu in the first place in exchange for a misunderstanding of class identity.

Please reconsider!

As well as getting the motif’s from the IA vendor, anyone know do they drop from bosses? And tradable?
Going to take me ages to collect them all if it’s just from the vendor!
I don’t mind them being class specific either, why would a Templar want to wear a Nightblade set and be all glowy red for example?
The Soul cleaver head was what everyone seemed to want, pretty sure we’ll see something similar for everyone else soon.

Indeed, what was the point ?

It's not like anyone is misunderstanding one class to be another visually.

I think I've said everything that needed to be said in the PTS thread of this one.

Long story short: it's a terrible decision that sets a terrible precedent for locking things away for reasons. People who are concerned about 'class purity' have the option of not using them, and people who desire 'class identity' are talking about the skills, not their fashions.

Unfortunately, we never got any dev comments in that thread. It seems they're committed to taking away our freedom of choice here.
(and yes, I am using 'taking away' correctly here. In U40, the style pages were unlocked and previewable on all classes without restrictions or VFX. They just weren't available to obtain at that point.)

It's intendent clearly ZoS need to keep IA Relevant so lock motifs trough clases just make players have to get more characters to get in this content probably in future (like a year o more)they will change it

Well, then it's clearly not well thought out... for a lot of people this means a lot less time spent in IA now.

The expectation was always that you'd have to use the class to unlock the associated motif. What nobody was expecting was for the motif to be unusable on other classes. Locking it does nothing to encourage repeated playthroughs.

Yes, at 12k per page, it's going to take some time to get everything. I'm glad the pages are curated, it would have been a nightmare otherwise, but I wish they would forgo this entirely, and go one step further to let us choose which exact item we wanted to buy (though I get this way would mean less currency spending, hence less time doing the content), because for instance I wanted the Soulcleaver helm and it was the last page on the set to drop for me, so basically 150k worth of archival seals. I do want to eventually collect all the style pages for all the sets but if someone just wanted one particular drop for their outfit, it still means potentially 150k fortunes.

Are they curated from drops in the archive? Are they guaranteed drops, like set gear is guaranteed from marauders and Tho'at? Or is it rare and random, like the collectibles (disgusting spoils, erroneous archive map, etc.)?

I'd like if it the styles could be used on any class, but the aura is only for the class.

I guess the one issue is that some of the pieces have the class symbols on them.

Other than certain pieces looking cool, like the nightblade hat, I'm okay with it being class-locked.

I got page from marauder boss, but it not guaranteed. Random

some pieces have alliance symbols on them. Those aren't locked to specific alliance characters.

To me, it makes sense that the class-specific stays class-specific. There are so many styles, that I think it's nice having a special one tailored to each class, too.

I understand people wanting the freedom of choice on their styles, but I do agree with this one.

Just saw someone post a picture of the container that drops them.. doesn't say that only a certain class can use them. Can't imagine that turning out well.

I'm still so disappointed by this choice. I hope, if we keep "complaining" about it they'll eventually reconsider this choice. It's horrible. I don't even care for the effects, just gimme the vanilla option. :(

I understand people wanting the freedom of choice on their styles, but I do agree with this one.

But it isn't nice, especially when these styles are really unique like the nightblade one and absolutely boring like the Sorc one. And as a main sorc, this really annoys me. I'm not really fond of these robes and these stupid hoods that make my char look bald. It's also not lore-fitting at all. I can dress up as another alliance, dress like another race but not like another class? huh? Especially if you think about Skyrim and the reactions you get when you dress up with an Imperial uniform you've stolen from your opponent. It doesn't feel immersive at all. I liked the thought of "Oh, I've killed this strong boss who was a Necromancer and now I can take his Necromancer-clothes and weapons" (meaning the set pieces)... It just doesn't make sense to take this option, especially because these clothes don't really add to class identity. It doesn't matter if I wear this robe or another one, no one will notice. And no one will automatically assume I'm a certain class just because I wear certain outfits - it doesn't work that way. So no, I cannot really understand how you could agree on this one at all.

Indeed, for me, making the style pages class-locked or giving them garish VFX is each sufficient to completely negate my interest in the style pages. More currency for furnishings and awaiting the day Filer Ool will sell leads locked behind treasure chests and ToT…

Does the VFX still apply from the outfit? Or does it work like the vMoL sets where the VFX is only active if you actually wear the set?

I got page from marauder boss, but it not guaranteed. Random

I just did 2 Arcs. Two Tho'ats, a Marauder, about 4 or 5 portals to the Unknown. Nothing. Not a single style page. I honestly could care less about wearing them. I just like collecting them. But with no reliable way to collect them, I don't see myself spending much more time in IA. I was a big fan of IA, too. But just collecting currency and buying them from a vendor is lame. Having stuff drop reliably from playing the game is way more fun for me, but it looks like ZOS wants to treat this like a job simulator (grind, make money, buy stuff at the store, repeat).
