Sounds good. We’re all hoping it’s been expanded upon significantly beyond what was announced today by then (all weapon and class skills too) so we have more content to play with in the rather impressive looking new zone.

I can't wait to daisy chain a bunch of buffs off of radiating regeneration and never run out of blue stuff with the maelstrom resto.

Or add "force" and "mobility" (probably means snare cleanse) to Rally to truly create a perfect skill

Or even make Ele Sus apply off balance and a snare.

Or gee, imagine putting a root, snare, and Major Expedition on whirling blades

This is big Elder Scrolls energy. We will truly be playing Munchkin Power Fantasy Online. Nothing is OP if everything is OP. Get ready to do it all on one build like never before.

Sadly, this is NOT how it works. You won't be adding to existing skills, it is a NEW skill for each weapon type that you can customize- but the basic function cannot be customized. The example: VAULT for Bow, causes you to drop an AOE and then backflip out. Now you customize THAT skill, and that skill alone. They will also be adding a single new skill to each Guild (Fighters/Mages) and some World skill lines too.

    Now I get it.

There will be a set of skills added that you can customize into all encompassing turbo buffs, same deal but with debuffs, or load up with so much CC that server forgets the target exists.

What they briefly showed was an additional skill for each weapon type, with 3 points of customization, and 7-8 options for each customization.

So 343+ possible combinations for every new skill. Not exactly "just another morph."

Looking forward to it. Customization is what makes ESO my favorite game.

Was wondering that too. The effect might only work on 1 target, or maybe we'll be getting some AOE taunts.

Hoping there's an AoE in there somewhere for destro, s+b, or guilds. A root for Templar tank at last.

I am not sure that’s how it’s going to work. I think we are literally crafting a spell. Like they showed in the reveal, every Grimoire or however you spell it, is going to have a base animation/thing it does and you can put 3 different things on it but have a lot of combos too. I could be wrong though, I wish they spent more time on it.

Then you have Styles which I think is just changing the color of spells.

I like to know if any of the new spells on the list have Cast Time or are Channeled. Access to more abilities that do wouldn't make sets like Soulshine so niche gameplay if all classes can have access.

The thing is, with Scribing they can slowly add a new skill to each skill line. In this update you’ll get one for Mage‘s and Fighter‘s Guild, in the next you’ll get one for Psijik and World and so on and on. This might be a lite version of Spellcrafting, but it’s way better than another class or just a simple skill line like Psijik. This system can be expanded upon with each update which is the huge benefit.

They need to just admit they can't do spellcrafting.

They did that right at the Beginning, which is why the system they had initially intended to be a part of the game was removed before the game went Live.
And that's why this is called 'Scribing,' and not 'Spellcrafting,' because it's not spellcrafting.

I think it may start off light on launch, seemingly one skill per weapon, alliance war, some guild, and soul magic skill lines. It's easily another system that they will be adding more and more to as more updates release like Antiquities or Companions. I hope to see down the line similar skill lines that were showcased for the Spellcrafting demo, like summoning a fire atronach, with the customization of the Scribing system. There is so much potential even though some may consider it a 'lite' Spellcrafting, but I see that growth potential where we may start with 10 skills on launch and later grow to 20 a year later then 30 and so on. I honestly could see many surprises waiting in this Chapter for us, like something they're not telling us (both with Scribing and the encroaching wood elf invasion ). Since we are investigating magic itself for the Scribing system quest line, I could see them easily introducing the schools of magic (Destruction, Conjuration, etc.) as skill lines in the World section as a surprise. Maybe each one starts with 1-2 skills and some passives. Either way, they always have the ability to expand on this system and I can't wait to see where it takes us.

There was a "Resource Costs" dropdown in what they showed on stream. Although there was also a "Usable" toggle. Who would craft a spell that can't be used? So this might be early alpha footage and may not end up exactly like this.

I mean...This is probably as much as we could have hoped for considering the large moving pieces nature of an MMO. ESO is not Oblivion. They weren't going to let us just make things from scratch with balance maintenance in mind. I feel that this was a no-win situation. With the limitations of ESO as an MMO in mind, for some people this was never going to be enough.

They want Oblivion/Morrowind level spell crafting and ESO is not that and cannot be that for a number of reasons. And for others it too little, too late. We've been asking for this for years...I mean YEARS...and plenty of former customers have lost patience and took their money elsewhere. I myself only came back post Bosmer extinction because I was bored during the shutdown.

I'm sure plenty of PVP players were absolutely thrilled about a teaser...later this year... Anyway, I see Scribing as a positive step, a continuance from Necrom and the Arcanist and look forward to it's release. One phrase stood out to me during the live-stream 'filling holes in your builds', I'm paraphrasing. If applied correctly to racials/passives/etc, Scribing could have great potential to realize the Elder Scrolls mantra 'play your way'. As we know, ESO has failed to live by that mantra on multiple fronts. Maybe, one day, we the players can resurrect our fallen Bosmer friends.

Weirdly, this system is much, much more customizable than the concept they showed in 2014, which effectively only offered 6 morphs per spell.

This means the new skills will offer many more options to fill mechanical gaps in your build, but because there will only be very few skills, they are unlikely to fill a particular role play/power fantasy you have. Like no matter how you change it in all its 343 combinations, the bow skill they showed will always make you do a flip through the air.

This is superior for theory crafting, but inferior for role playing. Not sure how I feel about that yet, as I like both.

So you have to find items that will unlock the customization that you can do. Each character you want to have the skill on need to find and upgrade that particular skill set...

For example, the Bow Backflip attack. Then you have the three Script Slots per Grimoire which allows you to edit and change the effects of the Skill. For example, you can select whether you want to heal or deal damage with that skill or whether it should deal direct damage or damage over time. Lastly, you get Inks that are consumable reagents to change or scribe the Skill

See here for more info on Scribing

As i have said on another thread. lets wait and see exactly what we get.

keep in mind that Like companions, and Antiquities and Tales of Tribute, We are very likely going to get more options and features around this as additional time and chapters and DLC's come out.

Honestly, its a bit more fair to those that cant or wont buy the chapter that it is limited in form.

but again, we won't know the extent until the PTS, and things may and likely will change between now and then.

I'm excited for it. Just sad no companions...yet.

I'm a little excited, that they aren't a direct part of the Chapter, but a later update all together. My hope is, that means deeper companions, that might be connected to areas other than Chapter areas. A nord from Eastmarch or Altmer from Summerset Auridon , so this actually leaves me rather optimistic.

      Awe man, this bums me.

I for all intents and purposes heavily DISLIKE weapons. I play magicka on all my 18 characters and only use lightning staff or ice staff for HA resourse managment. Arcanist was a god send for me becasue I could focus on the class, and the class abilities making the staff less of a thing on my build.

I also use the gloam weapon skin to hide the weapon when I am out of combat.

So this basically offers me zero addition to how I like to play. I was hoping I could turn the animal companion abilities in the warden tree to doing frost damage with frost effects.

It is not much, but I think that the biggest game changer would be skill scaling & cost. During the presentation thay said that we will be able to select damge type (physical/magicka) that will also make the skill to scale with max stam or mag and cost stam or mag. So stam resto/destro staff or mag DW or 2H&S should be possible, but only with that one skill.

Yes. My issue is if you consider Vault, the non-customizable parts of the skill restrict its utility a lot. Vault is at its core an escape ability, no matter how you customize it. It is going to require a rather specific build and play style to make that work. Why did they not use something that is less play-style constraining? And will we see similar oddball skills on other skill lines. A ranged damage ability on sword and shield? A gap closer on the restoration staff? A shield on the destruction staff?

Just saying this will only work in the long run, when more choice of basic functionality is available per skill line. As it is, some players will be over the moon, others will get nothing at all.
