I have Bastian and Mirri as companions to my main character, fully leveled up and with purple gear, but it wasn't easy to get their gear to that state. I was recently considering getting 2 of the other companions, 1 each for 2 of my alt characters, but was feeling discouraged from doing so, and the main reason is: companion gear cannot be upgraded. It's a major grind to collect companion gear in reasonable quality, so the companions can face a reasonably tough enemy without being killed quickly, and buying companion gear is very, very expensive (not surprising: the gear is a grind to collect, and this pushes up its selling price).

Being able to upgrade companion gear would make adding new companions a much more attractive prospect.

Could be a fun thing to add, especially for master crafters for example, to make that more rewarded.

I agree it would be really nice, but people have been asking for this for years. I think that if ZOS were inclined to do this it would have happened by now...

I would personally find much use out of being able to improve Companion gear, whether via crafting station or otherwise.

As I understand it, gold quality Companion gear has only been implemented once via some Chapter community event, but that trend hasn't stuck with consecutive years. Then, we were given the ability to purchase random pieces of purple quality Companion gear in the Infinite Archive, making the Companion gear grind less tedious.

The grind for player gear was much more difficult long ago, before the implementation of transmutation, reconstruction, the sticker book, and jewelry crafting. Hopefully Companion gear will one day receive similar quality of life updates, because some of us genuinely do care about equipping our Companions in desirable gear, and some of us don't miss the grinding we used to do for player gear.

Yes if you could use companion drops to upgrade the gear it would satisfy two needs. One to get rid of companion gear clutter and then secondly to upgrade it. It's painful to get purple gear let alone gold right now.

If it ever happens it will be super mega expensive.

I can already imagine 6+ mill gold just to upgrade jewelary to yellow quality

It would be cheaper to upgrade my PC than it would to participate in any companion gear improving system.

Is there any basis for these statements? I can't see any particular reason why upgrading companion equipment should be any more expensive than upgrading a character's equipment, but perhaps I'm missing some facts.
