The mindset of wanting to have it all right away doesn't fit an MMO that is supposed to be played for years. Not everything has to be achieved right away, or should be grinded for right away. Getting these upgrades should be natural over time. This is why I call them chase items, things to stay in the archive for long after getting all the achievements and gear.Necrotech_Master wrote: »Well, that is entirely the point.... chase upgrades which take a long while to get, even for those going in every day. Some choices of upgrades could be fun for some who want a real challenge(maybe a way to disable this upgrade so players aren't stuck with it). Some of the upgrades I mentioned are just for fun and a major change of pace in the archive. Those who would farm millions of fortunes would probably welcome some strange/heavy upgrades.Necrotech_Master wrote: »One: Chase upgrades which cost millions of fortunes and make the gameplay in there more fun:
-Upgrade: Have a 5% chance per stage to grant one of each of the transformations, without having unlocked all the visions for it. (Cost 1 Million fortunes)
-Upgrade: You permanently keep 10% of each and every verse choice throughout the archive as if it were a vision. (Cost: 2 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: You get to pick one verse and have a 50% chance to spawn that verse at every verse choice(can change this choice at any time with master Malketh, which will only activate from the next run on). (Cost: 5 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: When dying, you have a 50% chance not to lose a thread. (Cost: 10 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: Instead of the second wave of mobs at every stage, have a 10% chance to spawn a marauder. (Cost: 1 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: Treasure scamps drop a 100% increased fortune amount(double). (Cost: 2 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: Pick your favorite unknown portal and have a 50% chance to spawn this unknown portal at any unknown portal spawn(can change this choice at any time with master Malketh, which will only activate from the next run on). (Cost: 4 million fortunes)
-Upgrade: Terrorizing the archive: When you damage a mob, you have a 2% chance to kill them instantly(does not work on boss stage adds, bosses, and Tho'at). (Cost: 2 million fortunes)
Two: As a small chance let the archival fortune pouches leads of all rarities drop again even after completing them once.
To keep people playing the archive, and to keep it fresh for those spending a lot of time in there.
ill be honest ive spent a LOT of time in the archives and those costs are insane
even with all of the time ive spent in the archive ive only maybe earned like 600k archive fortunes (it costs about 125k to buy all of the current upgrades, then i spent another roughly 150k on ichor to finish the mount, and about 60k on style pages, maybe another 30k on treasure maps and have about 250k fortunes sitting around right now)
people who are barely clearing arc 1 or 2 are barely making 15k fortunes to be able to buy the monster style page each week as is
i also see the suggestion of a 10% chance to spawn a marauder as the 2nd add wave in each add stage to be a massive massive nerf considering how hard they are in later arcs (especially gothmau) its usually a death sentence and i doubt anyone would buy that lol
As for some of the other replies, arc 1 Tho'at is already very very easy. Especially now that companions are unaffected by the aoe's. You can basically afk during this fight now and let the companion do all the work. So I don't think any further changes to arc 1 are needed, the companion change was enough in my opinion.
adding in 30 million archive fortunes worth of upgrades is not adding value, just insane grind, i highly doubt many if any people would even get to 1 of those upgrades without so much burnout they would never touch it again
i like the archive, but would have serious burnout trying to earn that many archive fortunes
I'm clearing two arcs every day, and I already have 100k+ fortunes and all now available upgrades. Millions really isn't that much, especially if we are talking years.
Forgot to mention in my first post:
Three: Let the unknown portals spawn with any difficulty, not just the highest(with an indicator which level unknown it is). So they aren't all too intense, like the Aramril fight. (this fight could use some serious changing, it takes way too long and is too tedious)
Lets take your lowest example: 3k per day = 334 (rounded up) days to get to 1 million fortunes. If someone were to really farm fortunes, they would get them much much quicker. And arc 1 alone is only 10-15 minutes. So 334 days at the lowest is not that bad, for an MMO that is meant to be played for years and years.Necrotech_Master wrote: »The mindset of wanting to have it all right away doesn't fit an MMO that is supposed to be played for years. its not about "having it all immediately" im saying ive been doing archive runs almost twice a day since it came out, and i havent even earned 1 million fortunes total
i already have all collectibles, all gear, and at this point ive even been slowing down how many runs im doing and doing less long runs because i dont want to burn out any more than i already am because i do enjoy the content
if you compare this to other people who are even having trouble clearing the first 2 arcs, they will literally never get enough fortunes for any of those upgrades
you only get around 3-4k for arc 1 max if you clear all bonus portals and get lucky with scamps
im all for adding more upgrades, but they need to be with an attainable amount of currency, im sure even the current upgrades being 25k-30k for some of them are a lot of currency for some players
if you make the grind too much, most players are going to either give up or severely burn out on trying to get it

Better than some of the stupid options that increase the power of skills you just don't have... I had to make that choice recently and took the gold option because you get a 30K hit on killing the highlighted gold carrier. The alternative was a boost to "world skills" that I just don't use.
Except I got it on the boss round - luckily it spawned some mobs, but when I cleared the round there were three puddles of gold on the ground.
100 pieces each.
Admittedly it was the first arc, but still... I don't get out of bed for less than 10K!

Besides that, those who do not spend time in the archive have no need to get these upgrade at all. In this case it really would be about having it all, for no reason at all.
I've been doing only arc 1 & arc 2 every day(excluding the first week after the archive was released), and already have all the upgrades, bought all the leads, bought all the clues, bought every style page, and spend about 50k fortunes on companion gear. Still have over 150k+ fortunes left. A million fortunes really isn't that much. And is very obtainable to those really spending time in there. (Note: This alone is probably around 500k fortunes gained in total, haven't really kept track though.)
These upgrades were also mostly meant to spice up the archive for those spending a lot of time in there. Which makes the millions of fortune costs in line with what the upgrades bring to the table.
There is no need to burn oneself out to farm millions of fortunes, these upgrades are a progress over time reward(hence the name chase upgrades). You could not do any archives for a week, and then do two duo runs to like arc 5 or something to get the same amount of fortunes only arc 1 for a week would give you.
not reading the thread at all but here are some of the things that i would love to see added:
reroll purchasables. this could be like an upgrade in the shop similar to the others that adds a couple rerolls, this way you can either reroll when you roll things that you absolutely don't care for early on. or even better they could add reroll option in the vision selection menu where you can reroll at the cost of fortunes. man i would absolutely love that
you could also similarly add ban option, like if i have no AoE in my kit i would be able to ban 3% aoe damage vision when it rolls. it would make the world of difference.
they could also implement it so that if you don't pick up a certain vision, it won't show up in the next shop. i hate it when i see the same vision offered back to back to back in shop. it literally kills the runs.
this is the point where i realize i can go on for a while so i'll stop here now cya
While we're at it, it would be nice if there was a better way to curate the set drops. Arc 1 drops armor. Arc 2 drops weapons. Marauders may drop armor, but I only recall getting weapon drops. I've completed my sticker book for all weapons, so now I'm only getting curated drops on Arc 1 and Arc 3, which basically means that it make more sense to farm the most boring Arc to complete the sticker book for armor pieces. Wouldn't it make more sense to curate armor pieces on all Tho'at and Marauder drops after you have all of the weapons collected, especially since there are more armor pieces than weapons???
