Bots growing wings?

Kevaliji

So i was playing my alt tonight running around Glenumbra when suddenly someone floated out of the sky and harvested some iron ore. I thought "wow that must be a GM or something." Once he harvested the ore he then floated away into the clouds. I caught a glimpse of his name but wasn't able to screenshot it, it was somewhere along the lines of ffgzgxv which leads me to believe that he was a bot. This is definitely one of the top 10 weirdest things ive seen in ESO.

Flying/spinning bots were reported two or three weeks ago briefly, given some bots are harvesting below ground then I guess pos-hacking the Z coordinate is just as easy as pos-hacking the X and Y.

ANd yet again, ZOS's bloody-minded refusal to provide optional nameplates makes reporting them hard to impossible.

That is a new one. Else they are under the world instead.

I assume the whole point of these exploits is because the client got precedence over the server. Also why people get all kind of wierd bugs now and then. passives not working, moving slow etc.

While this is an obvious case (and the account should be banned to the void as soon as possible), the moderators will probably still be unhappy that you show this char's name on the forum. (No naming and shaming the bots. :s )

Here is an add-on that was suggested to me by another forum user. This can help you report those types of bots.

I got it, and it works wonderfully.

    http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info181-FastReport.html

If you haven't already, get the addon client used Minion: http://minion.mmoui.com/

Then you can search there for FastReport by thelegendaryof

Once you install that in Minion, go into TESO then go to settings. You'll need to set up the report key (I used F5 in the key bindings).

So when you hover over someone, it will save the last name you captured, even if they disappear quickly. Hitting the key you chose for the report will bring up two windows, as shown in the screenshot http://cdn.eso.mmoui.com/preview/pvw554.jpg

Highlight and CTRL + C the information on the left hand window into the report window on the right hand side, then fill in the rest of what you saw, making sure to click from the drop down menu.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, I just saw one flying in Stonefalls, but couldn't report it because it was flying fast. :\

Yep saw the same outside of Vulkhel Guard. There is also a bot harvesting a persistent mapel log there right now, on the path to the Anchor from the gate closest to the Warrior Guild. The log is bugged.

The botting issue is going to get worse rather than better over time unfortunately unless ZOS completely rewrite their *** client-server design - which is of course never going to happen.

What they should do is to reduce the sell value on the ores and refined products, and increase the income of normal players in areas the bots can't get to. Like increase gold drop from chests as the bots don't seem to like them.

They could do that if they don't want a crafters rebellion on their hands!

Blunt tools like this May catch bots but they will also lose more real players who find that an aspect of their game has been removed.

the more time goes on and I learn what a complete unmitigated disaster nearly every aspect of this game is I think the only way I'll ever have any kind of respect for this studio again is if they pull a FFIV RR; wipe the servers and relaunch the game when it's actually a completed, finished game that's more appeasing to players than f/kin gold farmers.

The server does no collision detection - it's all done client side - so you can turn off collision detection (using memory editing tools) and then fly around the map. You can also fly under the map - bots started doing this shortly after launch. If you see a resource disappear right in front of you, look down. You will see a name tag appear, but no person. They're under the map.

After making a new character yesterday I witnessed a couple 'flying bots' on Stros'Mkai. Also, nameplates are coming with the craglorn update if I am remembering correctly.

Today a GM on EU server extincted some groups of Jute exploiting bots around Fort Arand Wayshrine. Now all Jute nodes are occupied once again by the bots, not yet 5 or 6 like before the ban hammer came down, but at least 2 or 3 on every node. The bot supervisors also added on some groups one higher level char to kill/survive the Netches players pulled to kill the bots. And I recognized one bot i remember by name, reported him already at the same spot days ago when he was still lvl. 3 - now he is lvl. 6 and came back to exploit.

And this is why the ZOS current 'strategy' (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) for dealing with the botting issue is little more than a feeble PR exercise.

Perhaps they'd been hiding underground, or way up in the sky. Gotta say - pretty smart tactic for a bot.

Yikes, just had an unpleasant thought: How long before bots can "possess" and control an actual player with their hacks?

I'm picturing people screaming and freaking out in zone chat while the bot completely locks them out of their character and all they can do is sit back and watch the bot do its automated node harvesting. Nah I don't think this is possible.

I know you are being helpful so this is not against you.

But I find it kind of ironic (and sad) that reporting bots in this game is cumbersome enough (and it is) to need an addon.

And if ZOS is not banning them and they come right back, then reporting is a waste of my play time anyway.

Now that I have a couple characters to VR levels, I have resigned myself to staying in VR zones from now on, where I have seen no bots (yet).

I must say that this weekend the dungeons seemed a lot cleaner - didn't see any groups of bots on the bosses. I did see two suspected bots by the bank and one by the clothing crafting station in Davon's Watch. They had those names composed of random letters and were all level 3.

The dungeons have been clean. Unfortunately that means they are on these forums reading up as much as we are.

They run around in patterns waiting for random enemy respawns in the open world. Anybody notice that as well? It's obvious by their group movement.

Would be fun as heck to see a bounty board implemented, bots flagged for PvP, killed over and over again so bounty hunters could get rich quick.

Yeah I know, that would cause all other kinds of issues, but a guy can dream...

What I don't get is why developers can't put a simple red flag system in the game.
-Item counter increases faster than XXX with no sale involved
-Same message sent to zone more than XXX times/time period
-Two coordinates change while third is frozen for long and char is not swimming
-More than XXX reports about spam from player
    etc.

Being low-level should tighten the system grip, at level 3 system should be paranoid.
