    Well, it's not a requirement.

It's not a requirement to eat a cake in real life either, but if you did want a cake and the guy who sold it to you wrapped it in 1000 skin tight vacuum sealed bags, or forced you to do 1000 cartwheels before you could eat it, you would be slightly frustrated.

The Mythics are the cake/DLC, the "Scrying" grind is the pointless tedious packaging or obstacles, much like running every dungeon 60+ times to unlock the sets from it, especially for the PVP players out there.

But being an archaeologist is all about patience.

For me the only "grind" is up to level 5, because from then on you can excavate the purple furniture leads dropping through the zones (and later the yellow and orange ones). So up to level 5, on the character I picked for the day, I dig 2 or 3 green/blue leads in Artaeum before moving on to something else that session. The treasures sell for a bit of gold, it's not too time consuming, and I can pick up some materials along the way.

And so much faster - I need more gold leads now :)

They are never-ending in The Hollow City, though how many Void-Crystal anomalies can you cope with? I have one friend who ended up with 128.

It's...interesting, to see so many people complaining about Antiquities when I never really had any qualms about it. I feel like I'm an outcast with a bottomless pit of patience. Seems like everyone else is in such a rush for everything. Something takes a while = bad. I can't understand that, I'm not a proponent of instant gratification.

I don't see it as "patience" as much as "design"...

They created a grindy skill line. A couple years later, they introduce a fix, of sorts, for that grind in the cash shop. Intentional? Who knows, but they opened that door. What they should do is meaningful QoL to ease the leveling grind at the same time as they introduced the cash shop bypass. Then the door isn't open quite as wide.

I still don't find it grindy. It's fun. A LOT more fun than archaeology was in WoW.

[Caveat: I really wanted to have a career in Egyptology.... Unfortunately, real life interfered.]

It wouldn't be as bad if they doubled the number of skill points gained with each successful excavation. But getting 1 skill point is barely worth it.
