They could have done stuff to make it easier on the newer players to level this up. I guess they decided to monetize people who have already done it, instead.

you not having the time and not being patient is the problem. I love scrying and think the leveling process is very rewarding and paced well. I only have 1 char who maxed out scrying/excavation but that's OK, each character can be specialized in their own things.

I actually found the psijic skill line to be more annoying. At least scrying can net you some gold 👍

Same here. I didn't find leveling up scrying particularly onerous, and it's given me some great house furniture pieces over the last few years.

Leveling scrying and excavating is the most tedious thing in this game. I work to level 7 for the glowing chests then slow down and let it level more naturally until I eventually reach 10.

Receiving 1 skill point for a green lead is beyond frustrating. Since only the first character on an account can uncover a purple lead in every zone they should at least double the amount of skill points gained from each lead for subsequent characters.

It is boring and slow for old players too. Not to mention the loss of immersion when you are forced to play hours of a lame mobile game instead of actual ESO. I suspect it only exists because large team projects were difficult during pandemic quarantine, but app minigames were easy to develop.

The Greymoor chapter was released May 2020, so all the development would have been done pre-COVID.

You only need one character with scrying skills. Once a lead has been scried, any character can dig it up. So the main scryer can scry the gold leads, and other characters can dig the gold leads, and it is entirely possible with just a trowel. This way you can level the alts much faster than one green dig at a time.

I have done this seven times already and even on my antiquity expert I just have the trowel now. You just need squared paper so you can draw the venn diagrams to know where to dig, that is the hardest part.

Yeah, but that first character is a pain in the [snip]. I recently did this on my PS4, which owned Greymoor but I stopped playing on it before I did antiquities on any character. If you look up "Grind" in the MMO dictionary, it refers you to ESO Antiquities as an example.

You know, as much as I dislike grinds (and won't really do them at all any more) I've never found antiquities to be a grind. I find it an enjoyable way to spend time, much like fishing.

Then again, I also enjoy the Psijiic quest line....

'Just don't play that part of the game' isn't really a solution to something that could and should be improved.

Very much agree. There is still some way to go on my antiquarian character, but I am in no rush. To each their own, of course.

We got our first covid patients at my hospital in February 2020, so while most of the development was probably done before that it would have still been on the PTS and being worked on.

I don't think the first character is such a pain. Leveling it on an alt, though, that is pain. You get no purple antiquities to dig then, unless you missed some on your first.

What I want to know is why is it harder on all characters after the first? That is the opposite of what I'd expect.

I find it so annoying that I never levelled it up.

As I prefer HA builds, my builds are not very strong, as I don't have Oakensoul as a result. One of the main reason why I play ESO only casually now, cancelled my ESO+, and subbed to a different game, where I spend my money now.

The funny part to me is it is so much easier after leveling up, you would think it would be easier in the beginning and get harder. lol

it is if you want mythic items.

and most players want/need mythic items to improve/optimise their build.

That is another problem, which they solved with monetization.

My advice is to give it a go. I just started scrying a few of weeks ago and I'm at level 9. After the first few hours doing the first colours on Arteum over and again I started to think it wasn't so bad. However, at level 6 I read the instructions. I realised that scrying wasn't about clicking as quickly as possible all over the scying screen then clicking quickly over the map. You can take your time.

    It became easy then.

I have 4 of the 5 oakensoul pieces already. That crab is too hard at the moment. His time will come...

I think the people who find it grindy are trying to exclusively do scrying and nothing else, it was not meant to be that way. Scry when you have leads and occasionally do the free green/blues/purples for some extra gold here and there. I never once grinded out scrying and I reached level 10 and the ability to find all the stuff I needed for mythics just through regular gameplay. This is an MMORPG, there's more features available than just scrying, and as stated before you only need max level scrying/excavating on a single character, after which when you find a lead on any of your characters you can go back to your scrying character to dig it up.

Y'all should know by now from playing any MMO that you aren't going to be handed powerful items. you do actually have to play the game and earn things.

My current issue is I have two gold leads that are ultimate level. They expire pretty soon. I need to be level 10 to scry them.

But luckily even if they expire it's not too really a problem. I can find the leads again sometime in the future so no worries.

Yes this grind is almost as bad as the horse.

I hate it and if I didn't find the keen eye for chests so useful I wouldn't have bothered a second time.

It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t take so long to get to the purple level items, then it goes much faster because you’re able to scry for items you might actually want instead of bozo venderable only items

The only reason I got my newest character to 7 was because of what @cyberjanet posted. I had a character that could scry master leads and then my new character was able to excavate them even with a low skill. It was a real pain trying to find where the antiquity was without being able to use the augur, and I failed a lot, but once I reached level 5 excavation it went much faster.

There was no way I was going to alternate between green for 1 skill and blue for 3 skill for all those levels.
