Very long maintenance times.

I am ok to wait even a week of maintenance, if only they would fix things.

    QFT

But then again what MMO does not brake 2 things for every one thing they fix? Yes I'm looking at you SOE...

imo the best maintenance is EVE-Online, daily about 15 Mins at Lunch CEST, except when new release

Eve is well established - it's not surprising there maintenance times are short.

Surely you must all be used to new games these days having teething issues.

Games are massively more complex than the days of pong - anyone who codes in any sort of programming languages knows that the more lines of code there are the higher the risk of something somewhere breaking or conflicting. It just takes times to iron them out.

Consider all new games releases as a form of beta - the alternative is waiting a very long time while they search through 100s 1000s of lines of code and test all possible scenarios. Its far quicker and more cost effective for a million (random number) people to do it.

We do things in game that many developers don't even consider. So we find all the bugs en mass.

Servers are in Texas, right? 6.00 a.m. CEST is 11.00 p.m. Texas time. Meaning they start working on the EU-server late in the evening, work all night and do the stability tests in the wee hours of morning, kind of with a "*** of gravel" in their eyes. I would find it really hard to be efficient under those circumstances. The interesting question is why do Zenimax insist on doing maintenance during these hours? It's not like it's the least inconvenient hours for us, is it?
Well thats their problem, there was suppose to be a dedicated eu server in the EU.
It shouldnt effect their paying customers just because their workers have to work into the wee hours of the morning with "gravel" in their eyes just because they havent moved the server to where it is suppose to be.

Agreed. There are even MMOs that have NO MAINTENANCE TIMES. Their infrastructure allows for any patch to applied live and only a 1 minute reboot is needed. Why is Zenimax still in the rock age?

Sorry guys. I'd love to stay and chat but the server just came up.
'Clever' sigs get old real fast - just like this one.
