I met those kind of players, if i am on good mood, i will ignore and go my way, but if you mess with me in my grumpy gran'ma day, you will have what i did sometimes to those.

I follow them, and i can be very patient during those days, and the chest they will have to fight, i simply take it and go my ways.

I know this is stupid and silly, but dont mess with a grumpy gran'ma, you do not know what they can do!

It's like PVP but in a PVE area BUT if I'm role playing as a member of the thieves guild, then it would be against the guild rules to let someone else get loot from a chest that they haven't even tried to open yet.

    You snooze, you lose.

Except it's you who's snoozing since the other player is caught up in combat with the enemies guarding that chest and so CAN'T even try to open it because *the game won't let them*. And for about half a minute afterwards until it can be bothered to work out that everything's dead.

I understand not being able to open doors while in combat so you can cheese out of it. But they should allow interaction with treasure chests, troves, portals, safeboxes, and other non-instanced loot containers while in combat, to avoid this entire scenario. Let the players risk being killed (don't laugh.... some people still die to overland) for treasure if they choose. And let the selfish opportunists move on and find something else to loot first.

Yes, that happens to me, and it used to irritate me
I guess it affected me a lot more as a new player, when there was a good chance I might not have the gear that's in the chest
Now, with the sticker book pretty much filled up, I figure the rude player probably needs the loot more than me, so whatever and onward :)

As I understand it, it is not based on being in combat so much as the amount of time since damage was last taken. So, for example, I can get too close to something while farming and they will come after my character. My companion will attack them, and may even kill them without my character taking damage. Technically, my character is also in combat, but I can still loot things.

I'd love to see that change. It's annoying not to be able to unlock/open containers because hostiles happen to be nearby. I'd be quite prepared to risk opening the containers while being attacked: it should be my choice, not the game's choice.

also nodes there is says not available someone is using it or something then it vanishes but there is no player around, from another instance perhaps

There are places where players are put in different version of area depending if they have finished a quest or questline or not. For example Trials and Tribulations / To Walk on Far Shores at end of Bangkorai zone. Players before and after share same (plenty of) nodes in area leading to Hall of Heroes but not the (quite a lot of) hostiles and can't see each other while a node mysteriously disappear. I expect same happens if players are put in different shard of same area but it's not so obvious to be sure.

i believe it was aristotle who said the famous words "finders keepers"

although i guess in this instance you would have been the "finder" and the other person was the "taker" so it's more like "takers keepers" which is a little more literal

i think it was socrates who said "you snooze you lose"

I was just walking past the toilet paper aisle and a member of staff saw me pick up a pack and she said, we have loads, take two.

I've broken so many lockpicks opening chests I ran out of lockpicks on two toons this week. But only one person got to the chests first. It was an argonian swimming across Bal Foyen harbour.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when you spot a chest or thieves trove and are like 😮 Only to open it and discover a glyph, style mat, empty soul gems or some lockpicks cause someone didn’t take all. A message to those players: my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

They're likely super grateful as it slows down respawning of the node with a full set of items.

This used to be a problem for me back when the sticker book didn't exist and farming for things like MS Inferno staves was a huge deal - nowadays I can't remember the last time I didn't just walk past an overworld chest. I get more value out of harvesting a flower or a wood node. Chests simply don't contain anything that makes them worth the time anymore. You could make a small argument for Vvardenfell chests where you can get Bouyant Armiger motif pages but aside from that I can't see a point.

Yes, opening a treasure chest makes two things happen:

    1) Starts the despawn timer on the current chest (if not completely looted).

    2) Starts the respawn timer on another random chest somewhere (including the current location) in the zone.

Yes but it still delays the chest in question from respawning, which, for people with ESO plus who are unlikely to have a full inventory, is plain rude when they can sort the stuff out themselves instead of being lazy.

It only delays it by a few minutes and not all have ESO+. It will eventually respawn if it's never emptied.

I used to get annoyed by this, and I still think it’s the polite thing to wait to see if the person who was there first will want the node or chest.

Six years in, I figure if they are so desperate for it as to try to take it first despite not being there first, they probably need its contents a lot more than I do.

I'm the same, always give the person closest to it a chance to open it before I do and wait until they walk away.

I still don't like it when someone behind me sees it as a race to the chest or node but hate it more when people have opened them and not taken everything.

Yeah chests really do bring out the jerks in people in this game. If it is not one stealing as you clear mobs it is ones who don't take all the items and leave the crap so it doesn't respawn. That's why the ESO gods invented the mud pie memento so you can start hitting them with it.
