I truly don’t know what to think because I haven’t played it yet. Even with that I am cautious because I remember Necro and what it’s time in PTS did to it.

Seems fun, the class seems to have a lot of skills that are pretty unique mechanically. I don’t really care about the balancing right now because we don’t have numbers and a lot of things could still change. If they keep the quirks of the class I’ll be happy.

At least they've made sure it would be a Elsweyr patch necro level desirable in group compositions. Some things seems more new than rehashed, that's also a good sign overall.

By stealing everything every other class. It will be only option for support.

So they took templar's sun sheild, made it not rubbish and are slapping it on the arcanist as an ult.....

I am unimaginably excited for this.

Yeah, yeah, not for any gameplay reason. My main is the only sweaty character I have so all of my alts are specifically for fun. But omg this looks like lots of fun. I am so hyped for this.

My big concern is the skill that taunts. I main a tank, so I'm still a bit scarred from when ice stick heavies used to taunt and people would always pull the boss off you (and then complain that you're not keeping the boss under control and wonder why they're dying). Especially since it's the FIRST skill of the alphabetically FIRST skill line, so it's really easy to think that new players would just use it and start casting it willy-nilly. I'd much prefer if it was a 'soft-taunt' the same way the chains work now that it taunted unless it was already taunted.

But yeah, I'm sure it's going to be OP and people will complain on PTS and it'll get brought into line a bit, and then it'll still need major nerfs in the next few patches.

We'll see what the survivability is. Some youtubers have stated that maintaining health is a problem, especially for a mid-range class that doesn't have any 'heal on attack' abilities like other classes do.

I can't help but wonder... they say they want people to be able to be full tank without having to rely on other skill lines, but they don't offer a class source for Major Breach, which IMO is extremely important for a tank to provide. Tanking isn't just about taunting, which they did add a class taunt, but no Major Breach.

We're not seeing the morphs yet.

There is actually a list out of all the morphs and NO major breach in any of them.

There is one morph that steals resists but no numbers on that yet. But can't imagine it would be as strong as Major Breach and then stack on top of it.

Is there anyone else surprised/bothered by the lack of passive healing or healing due to offense?

Other than than I'm pretty excited to try it out and see numbers on tooltips. I do wonder though if the offense potential centers around a fully buffed beam, how will it fare in pvp. Especially for 22 meters range it will be a bash fest I reckon

Templar don't have any. Puncturing sweep doesn't deal any damage, so it doesn't heal.

The morphs can be seen at Hack the Minotaur.
    That's where I found them.

    https://www.hacktheminotaur.com/eso-class-guide/arcanist

So once again, they have decided to deny magicka builds a execute. Really lame. Cause stam really needs that with executes built into all their weapons.

Why don't you use it anyway?? The damage scales off whichever is higher weapon or spell damage.

    Just go hybrid.
I'm going to use both the Rune blades AND the Abyssal Impact execute.
Only need like 10 attribute points into stam.

I'm going to do it the opposite and only put 10 points into magicka.

Because your resource matters, an execute is meant to be spammed in execute range and even hybrids still build up one resource more as a primary because of how spamming and weaving works. If you are a magicka primary a stam execute is not usually worth it. A stam buff or occasional dot or heal works fine, but not a spamming attack. So again, they have decided to deny magicka a execute.

Also, not everyone wants to hybrid. Some people just wanna be goober wizards and goofy warriors.

So far the arcanist will be my 3rd hybrid. But they're all Stam primary. So I don't know how mag primary feel.
It's nice to be able to cherry pick a couple mag skills that give some kind of buff or debuff.

As for mag executes...those are on class skills. Both Nightblade and sorc have class executes.
The other executes are on weapon skill lines. But mag only has destruction staff or restoration staff.
They really need to buff destruction staff.

Yeah I already said that, stam has weapon executes, a lot of options for it, mag does not. It's dumb to make the class execute stam. However it doesn't matter anymore as I have learned that some of Arcanist's skills resource changes based on which one you have higher. This might be one of those skills. We will find out.

regardless, the mag morph looks like it might be real powerful on it's own so I guess we will see if it is even a problem or not once pts rolls around.

It is easy, the amount of buffs that arcanist can provide and the amount of buffs per ability.

Atm it is like a warden in terms of buffs and you know what happens with classes with more buffs than others?
Unique buffs are a fixed number so you cannot nerf it without nerfing all sources that provide the buff, so nerf buffs are not a thing. Then if you have access to many more buffs than other classes and you can use many more with the same number of skills, you are better by definition.

And then you will tell me: But if the damage/healing is low compared to other classes? And the answer to that question is really easy, in every major update they balance classes, I put my hand on the fire that ZOS will not do the same that they do with templars or sorcerer and nerf it into oblivion. Also classes with that high amount of buffs when they are buffed a bit they become an absolute monsets like for example warden in PvP, balancing this classes are really hard, in the other hand we have sorcerers and templars that dont provide that many buffs and utility and as you can see with sorcerers they got a buff but even with the buff they are not in the middle of the PvP class tier. Also to provide by far less buffs with base classes you need more skills when arcanist can provide 3 buffs with one skill, heal and proc another 2 buffs...

Aaaaalso, ZOS will not put the class on live servers if it is not OP when the main thing in the chapter is the new class.

it looks intriguing, green is a bit too much and looks like it could blind the playing field.

I just really do not want to make a new class and spend the time i spent on my main already to make another main.

Like the necromancer, the arcanist's skills are irrelevant to me. I'm not making any more new characters due to the tedium. Especially when I have three fully developed (mount training, guilds, psijic, etc) characters that turned out to be unenjoyable for me. When/if we get class change tokens, I'd be happy to try any new classes using existing characters - but not until then.

There are some copy/paste typos on https://eso-hub.com/en/skills/arcanist

I have already sulked about this in another thread, but... I wish it wasn't so Daedric-cultist themed. Our Loremaster says that it doesn't have to be viewed as such, but... well, it is. Its the Herma Mora Cultist class. It'd take a LOT of mental gymnastics to RP it away from that theme.

Also yeah, a big and loud laserbeam that doesn't seem to require a target? Yeah, people are gonna spam that in city centres lol.

The Arcanist looks interesting, however a few of the Arcanist skills and passives look quite strong depending on the values they end up with. Therefore I would advise caution since history has shown us that anything new typically gets nerfed roughly 3-5 months after release. Despite their own internal testing teams and the Public Test Server, the REAL testing phase occurs a few months afterwards on the Live server. So I would pay close attention to the patch notes in the upcoming PTS cycle starting Monday.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Arcanist is that one skill that benefits you passively regardless of which bar it is slotted on. I seriously hope this means ZoS will do the same to some of the existing class skills since the terms "active" vs. "slotted" are a very obscurely explained mechanic and not very easy to understand for new players. The wording of many skills and passives gives the impression that players can equip something on the backbar to benefit from it when you actually need to have it "active" or on the frontbar (NB's Pressure point passive or Incapacitating Strike's sustain for example).

The class FX seems to be way too bright, as usual. Instead of creating FX that gives useful visual feedback to the player, they took the flashbang yourself route again.
I'm also not a fan of minor brittle coming from abilities (rune of the colorless pool); imo it should be frost staff exclusive, but maybe that turns out to be no issue.
