It just occurred to me that we do not have a fashion assistant.

I was just dashing full-speed through Vivec city on the back of one of my loyal guars, galloping majestically towards the dyers hall for the billionth time, when a thought suddenly occurred to me.

"It would be so much more convenient if I could just summon a flamboyant Dremora, one who could possibly insult my apparent non-existent fashion sense, and have it bring up the outfit station menu without me needing to leave the crafting area."

Now, do I need this? No, absolutely not. It doesn't take that long to just run to an outfit station or port to my house.

Would I get this if it was available? Yeah, probably.

What about you?

Sounds like an interesting idea, but typically they remove a feature from these assistants that typically keep players coming back to the cities. Like the stolen goods has a tax, the merchant doesn't repair, the banker doesn't access stores and guild stuff, and the deconstructor lacks the ability to refine raw materials and craft items.

Not sure what they'll not allow us to do with such an assistant.

I wouldn't really have use for a fashion assistant, but by golly would I rush to buy a non-combat Dremora companion that would follow along observing and insult me every so often after combat or when I loot provisioning supplies from crates in sewers and suchlike. They could always insult my fashion too, no probs.

Pretty much the opposite of our current overly-enthusiastic companions that cheer when I smoosh some skeevers or harvest a node.

    "Pathetic."

    Yes please, and thank you.

But we still need to come to a town for banking and repair. We have fully functional outfit/dye stations in our homes so no reason to make an assistant any less functional.

Personally, I wouldn’t be interested, unless I really liked the assistant. I really want an armory assistant but am waiting for the right one. :)

I suppose a 20% price hike or something for on-location service would have to suffice.

Yeah.... that's why I mentioned the fact that you have to go into town for the banking and repair. The assistants deliberately had guild banks and stores omitted, as well as the ability to spend gold to repair gear.

BloodyStigmata suggested a price hike on outfit changes which might be how ZOS does it to be honest. The only reason we don't see the treatment done on the Armory System is because that's purely an inhome based system with the exception being they added a station to Cyrodiil recently since the assistant can't enter that area, and queue times are atrocious.

I have sometimes thought that one reason I change my armour styles far more often in Guild Wars 2 than in ESO is because I can do it anywhere. I'll often be waiting for something to start and look through the options, or I'll find myself thinking I don't quite like something I've chosen and will stop what I'm doing to try out other options. In ESO I can look through them anywhere but if I actually want to save a change I have to remember to do it when I'm in town. Since most of my characters only go back to a town when I'm about to log off and want to clear their inventory I'm highly likely to forget about it by then.

So I'd definitely consider an outfit assistant if one was available. Whether I'd buy it depends on how much it costs and what the drawbacks are vs going to a town, but I'd at least consider it.

But they could have added armoury stations to towns (or added that function to outfit stations) instead of putting it in houses, if they'd wanted it to be an incentive to visit towns.

    It's not fashion, it's armour!

Though I can see the amusement in having your flamboyant dremora dresser squealing "No! No, no, no... you aren't going out to fight wearing that! Your boots and gauntlets don't match... and what are those flappy thigh guards about? I won't even mention those dreadful shoulders... so 80s!".

You still have to go to town in order to actually change out your morphs and unslot things if you don't have an empty slot to pick up. Additionally if you use an empty slot as a full respec you still have the issue of losing your curse (Werewolf and Vampire) unless you saved over the build with nothing equipped or slotted while having the curse.

So Armory still has tiny caveats that if you don't play your cards right you'll be back in town.

They probably want you to buy the outfit slots.

That said I could easily see them adding the outfit/dye station function reskinned as an assistant to the crown store.

Not one I would buy though.

That said you have to take into consideration the current assistants whether its the banker/merchant/decon one, don't do all that there in game equivalents do, eg banker does not assess guild bank/store, merchant does not repair, decon assistant only decons etc..

I would fully expect the fashion assistant to be watered down in some way to make people still visit the crafting area's.

Part of me predicts they would take out the costume dye function from the assistant since that is an ESO plus bonus option and just leave the outfit system function in the assistant. All as part of there scheme to ensure people keep visiting cities.

I have outfit stations in houses. Not buying an assistant for it - I don't "change clothes" enough to bother. Once I find a look I like, it stays there forever.

I'm already running out of wheel slots for companions and assistants, currently have the fence assistant on my quick wheel as there isn't room for 4 companions plus 5 assistants (banker, deconstructor, merchant, armory assistant, fence).

Wouldn't be against the idea but would like the wheel expanded if they started adding assistants for every thing in the game.

Next will be Caldwell getting on all fours so I can use his back as an anvil for a blacksmithing assistant (he has a super solid back from carrying the Five Companions).
