U37 Analysis

I've been seeing almost nothing but negativity in these forums about this update, and quite frankly, I think that's unfair.
Look, I'm not gonna claim it's perfect, and some stuff needs some fine tuning, but most of the changes suggested are completely fine and/or beneficial
The changes to Jewelry enchants are greatly appreciated as someone who has spent far too much gold and transmute of multiple sets for different group comps
Changes to Wall of Frost to ease how much AoE CC Wardens had access to in PvP is a good thing. AoE CCs in general are very dangerous (looking at the abuse of Dark Convergence and occasionally Rush of Agony) and can be very frustrating to fight against, and there is nothing more annoying in PvP than not being able to get your character to do what you want.
The change in scaling to LAs is completely fine, it'll buff most builds and the rest won't feel a thing. Even Skinny Cheeks said it'd be a 1.5% nerf for the literal best and most optimized PvE groups, and neutral to extremely positive for everyone else.
Changes to bloodthirsty make those expensive Chromium Grains and Platings less dire for PvE, and directly buff a number of players who cannot afford to gold out their jewelry.
The changes to timers make most things more convenient, and prevents people from having to worry about micromanaging their schedules around a video game.
^These are all good things, and the primary changes of the patch, and it just seems that no one is acknowledging them.

Look, I'm not gonna be some dolt who pretends everything is fine with the game. Templars barely exist, Sorcs are having an existential crisis and the ridiculous potential for both Burst Healing and Burst Damage in current PvP is downright oppressive.
But this patch feels like the first good step we've gotten in years.

There's a lot to be happy about with the changes, but there's also a lot that while nice, haven't properly addressed the long term issues players had/still have with where things are currently, be it their favourite class, lack of pvp content (even a new BG map would have been nice and wouldn't have been that much to implement), etc.

Personally I'm glad they're looking into fixing their U35 mistake regarding the light/heavy attack overnerfs, that they are finally taking notice of the current horrible state of sorc for pvp/non-pet/heavy attack builds, as well as the changes to mist form being pretty cool (even though they detract from my mains (sorc) niche as a hyper mobile ranged caster by granting equivalent teleportation mobility to every class).

But even this has its positives since it will likely force the issue of sorcs horrendous defense/healing, unreliable/easily avoided damage and lack of buff/debuff access to be properly looked into in the near future since streak can no longer be used as an argument to hold back those much needed improvements to the class since now every class essentially has access to a better version of BoL which counters sorcs burst combo on top of the existing counters.

It's almost like that's the expressed purpose of a PTS and its associated forum...to identify and discuss issues/bugs/problems instead of telling the devs how awesome things are.

A lot of the proposed changes sounds positive much like many people though U35 sounded positive where the devs said accessibility was their goal but the on the ground results of U35 were quite the opposite. So based on recently history how can we trust what the devs say will happen in this next update will in fact be what happens? The community likely has a cautious optimism and is waiting to see if their optimism is warranted instead of celebrating...unless you're a DK then your celebrating.

I'm honestly not expecting any class buffs until after Arcanist launches and is later nerfed. They'll nerf it and at the same time buff the other classes making them useful again. This will cause players who created an alt Arcanist, to create an alt of another buffed class. Rinse & repeat until the next class comes out.

Most of the issues are with the overall lack of class changes, and also with the new PvP anti healing set and major berserk being given to the most powerful class in the game.

This update has nice things yes. But what most people are looking for is class changes due to how badly update 35 screwed several classes mainly Templars. Sorcerers are also unhappy that the only viable build is full pets with prey. Add to this that the overall number of changes for u35 and u36 are very small. People want changes. The devs need to step up! Stop trying to rework light attacks for the ninth time when that’s not even going to close the gap for players who can’t weave, and spend time balancing class skills.

I agree that there's a lot to like about the coming patch. I think the reason it's a swarm of negativity is only because it's a tester's job to find problems. Many of those problems seemed evident to me on my first readthrough of the notes. It doesn't mean I'm not appreciative. Mist Form, for instance, is something I'm very excited about.
