Does anyone use Bastion as a companion most of the time?

I really like everything about companions except for the fact that we got 3 females now and 1 male, [snip]

I would love to have a regular warrior looking nord/reguard/imperial, like the npcs we had in skyrim for example.
And hopefully a little bigger too, so ita actually worth putting good looking on them..

Actually I prefer the Dark Seducer costume (black with red accents) for companions but it lacks the chest window on male. Too bad.

Anyway Bastian will get all whiny on stealing, pickpocketing, Blade of Woe, murdering citizens in general, entering outlaws and DB sanctuary. And Mirri and Isobel also can't take it all. Why should I bother pandering a companion like that with my Silencer?

I haven't been using any of them much lately but In my case Isobel inherited Bastian's tanking gear because her perk and abilities are straight up better than his. Bastian's constant philosophical commentary also didn't feel that 'realistic' as a character either but maybe something about him appeals to others.

Hi all, just wanted to note here a removed image of Bastian that was present in this thread. Due to the ambiguous nature of some posts in combination with using the image of Bastian in a pink dress, which has been used as a derogatory statement in the past, we decided to remove the post. As we highlighted earlier in this thread, context matters to how we assess and remove posts. We have to be carful not to remove player agency and assume malintent. However, we also do not want anyone taking advantage of player agency to offend or attack an individual or group.

We know a few players noted concern over the image, so we wanted to make sure to address the removal of it.

Sorry to @Veinblood1965 for having this topic derail from your original conversation.

Here's a nice picture of Bastian to lighten the mood a bit. My character was lazing in the fields on Artaeum.

I dressed Bastian in shorts and a tank top so he could show off what I consider his best feature... those full body Tats!

Bastian does pretty well as a vigorous-wearing tank.

Soloed lair of Maarselok the other day and he only died to the cesspit floor mechanic, despite no heals from me. Not too shabby.

Got him looking like some mages guild type though, as that is apparently what he is about. Robes and bound weapons.

A shame the outfit cannot be completed with a mages hood.

I wasn't expecting it, but he's still my fave companion for my main. Love his calm voice, and I feel like these two have done so much together now I can't separate them

If Bastian were a character in a romance novel to me he'd be the straight laced, by-the-numbers overly strict, police-officer type that gets his whole world turned upside down by some "free spirited" girl. He'd teach her how to get her stuff together, she'd teach him how to loosen up and enjoy life.

While I am aware of that stereotype, in his context, I thought it was more a reference to him being an urban person.

Here I was thinking he and my character could retire and read books next to the fireplace, but your story sounds way more fun :D

I grudgingly admit I like Bastian, although not so much when I cook that fruit & cheese dish and he decides he hates me and drops his rapport with me. He and my main character have had many fun adventures together.

(The first 3 pics below were from when my arm got stuck in a pointing-ahead position, so I thought I'd just make the best of it.)

I decorated Gardner House in Wayrest because I'm quite fond of the idea of Bastian and my main character retiring there. I built a nice library and everything. Though I do like @spartaxoxo 's idea and had a similar thought before. Except my idea was more 80s themed detective series and had Bonnie Tyler on the soundtrack :D

Bastian is a great companion for me.
    YrMCfVT.png

I only wish there was a way to tell the Companions to stand in a certain place. He never fires his ult since it requires me to kite things on top of him, but he's a lot more useful at range.

I miss my bro. Can't wait to level up the new ones so I can get him back.

Bastian might not care, but damn Isobel does. Every time my vampires eat someone it's all 'fight the abomination' this, and 'don't give into the whatevers' that.
So I use her on my werewolf lass, as she doesn't care a whit about that, apparently XD

You can use the pet control button + block to disengage him from his current enemy. He will then run to you.

A bit clunky as a positioning tool but it's what we have for now.

I've used it a bit to compensate for the AI's lack of mechanics awareness.

The pet control button was more useful before heavy attacks were made to also control the pets. I wish that was made into a menu toggle option.

In other news: Shoutout to Bastian for saving today's daily random after the tank and other DPS left, following a couple wipes on Caluurion in Fang lair. Didn't even notice Bastian had taken over until quite a bit into the fight. With the aid of the healer, the rest of the dungeon was a breeze.

What I’m curious about is why so many people consistently spell his name as Bastion instead of Bastian. I see it on the forums and in-game so I assume it’s not autocorrect.

I have him and Isobel leveled to 20. So I only pull either of those out if I need to.

In general I have who I am leveling at the moment out.

TBH I am on vacation at the moment, I am on a cruise ship off of Mexico, so I can’t log into my character and check for certain.

I believe it’s the staff is from a semi recent crown store weapon pack.

Out of the 4 companions, Bastian is probably my favorite. Ember is at the bottom of that list.

Bastian feels like he has a mind of his own -- more so than any of the others. I also enjoyed his back story. Lastly, gaining rapport with him felt more impactful.

I think Mirri and Bastian have problem of being first designs of a new thing in gaem. Mirri getting annoyed by player gathering bugs does not appear as terrible idea it is until one actually plays the game with Mirri out. There are so many places filled to brim with torchbugs... And Bastian just grates my inner cynic. Ember and Isobel appear more improved version 2 of the same. (I have to admit I have not had Isobel out enough to make informed statement.)
If we get more companions I hope we get something actually different next time. Maybe happily evil companion unlike true neutral Ember. Or at least neutral tank/fighter type instead of shiny knight like Bastian and Isobel. And not fillling my inventory with valueless junk.

I think a decent amount of people do not actually consider Isobel and Ember 'improvements' as companions beyond the fact they just happen to have been given more time and effort. As you can see in this very discussion, many haven't 'upgraded' to the new companions and probably will continue with that in the future. That Mirri and Bastian haven't been given the same care in the time since release (reminder: Bastian and Mirri were literally the feature of Blackwood) seems a combination of some wrong-headed ideas about player demographics mixed with general lack of care in the last two years. Those who dislike Isobel and Ember generally just spend less time in threads dedicated to them expressing it.

Is it just me or doesn't seem like this thread has developed a pattern in the time it's been up: you get people responding with fun/interesting pictures/posts about the topic and then it's always followed by 'ugh companions sucks' or 'I love Ember' posts (repeatedly).
