We'll see. The idea that a companion has to be (at least potentially) sexually attractive and can't be, well, just a (same-sex) friend, seems strange to me - but I'd accept that as a matter of taste, I guess.

I can live with that, I'm also guilty of fantasising about some of my fictional companions from various games. What I can't understand is those who see Bastian's fictional existence as an affront to their own gender identity, which would be hilarious if it wasn't also disturbing in the way it manifests.

I agree with you. And to add a thing: I find argumentations like "I'm a man so of course I naturally like women" quite irritating too. It might be an individual truth for the majority of people, and that's fine. It's still a bit weird that even in the 21st century some people don't seem to acknowledge that LGBT+ people exist (of maybe they do, but find them unnatural then).
I use all my companions for different roles, but Ember is actually my least favourite for no other reason than her hairdo.
I see a lot of hate for Bastian in my guild forums, and here, but man, I love the guy.
He is an essential tank for me when farming dungeons, no matter who I'm playing. I enjoy his kindness, and his voice which I find soothing. He has a line that makes me happy every time I hear it:
"I like to think fate puts us in dark places because it's our job to be a light there."
Also, the "Are you hurt?!" line gets me all fluttery XD
That said, he spends a lot of time looking up, at nothing.
I'm digging Isobel as well, though she's annoying for my vampire characters. Her laugh of delight when we go into battle is just awesome.
But I think Bastian will always be my favorite because he's steadfast and true and cares about everyone.
... except bandits, because screw those guys. XD
Thanks! Constant fighting, I see. That explains it. I don't level them deliberately but just take them with me whatever I'm doing, so they level much slower (I won't complain though because I'm not aiming for fast levelling). I have Isobel for weeks now and she's just reached level 13 or 14.

For some reason the forum allows some really vile comments on Bastian related threads. I've seen things stay up that really should have been nixed straight away. All you can do is report them but some things take multiple reports when they really shouldn't have to. Which really feeds back into the impression that Zos does not give a stuff about Bastian as character and the players who prefer him.

How is he a victim and "A whiner" exactly?
I love him. And those tattoos were such a spicy surprise! (I want to know the story).
What’s this about him not receiving updates? I’ve only maxed him out. Have the other companions been getting updates and he hasn’t?

Funny how every thread asking for feedback from players who actually use Bastian as a companion always devolves into the same old comments from people who have no interest in him as a companion. It's nearly been two years after Blackwood's release ..maybe... don't know....don't a use a companion you don't like and leave those who do like to use said companion to discuss things without having to wade through a sea of comments that add exactly zero to the conversation. Bastian fans don't go into other companion threads and bombard those who like other companions with 'ugh, hate this companion' so why is it acceptable here?
Yes, even Mirri has had more dialogue added from what I understand - Bastian has had nothing since Blackwood as well as continuing to have issues going right back to release (still missing from the Blackwood 'after party'). He has lines that were present in pts that simply do not work on live, whole sections of his personality were taken out and given to Isobel (his crafting rapport sections) and every request to get updates for him is conveniently ignored by the devs. It's shoddy in the extreme.
OMG me too!I love him. And those tattoos were such a spicy surprise! (I want to know the story).
That stinks! I had no idea and now have mild FOMO. Bastion definitely deserves more content. I figured we’d get a second quest detailing his training in magic with that named (but not in game?) NPC.

i love his nature, his demeanor... He's all kind and stuff, then busts out with passionate war cries and victory cries, "THAT'S how we do things in Daggerfall!"
He's deep, and thoughtful... "I like to think fate puts us in dark places because it's our job to be a light there." Favorite quote.
He helps me find heavy sacks if i happen to miss them, by stopping and staring at them, "Hellooooo, what's this?"
He's got a sexy full body tatt that was a surprise to see, and his voice... ommagosh, i could listen to him all night. Only thing that woulda made him better woulda been a british accent. lol
