Is in-game voice chat coming?

My EQ2 guild almost has an anti-voice chat rule. Several of our leaders are European and very self-conscious about their accents. One leader plays from work. I like to listen to NPR when I play. We all have reasons we don't use it or want to subject other guild members to it. Never had a problem that was caused by not having voice chat.

Sounds like my Swedish friend. Refuses to speak if others are in channel and it took a bit of coaxing to get him to speak to me.

Well, that and "if the first time I hear you speak since 2006 is when Im on the train with you leaving Stockholm Im going to be incredibly disappointed." He *hasnt* used voice with our EQ2 guild since 2006.

@señorcinco, which little friend? The Swede I keep talking about? Hes not on this or those forums, though hed lurk occasionally.

I just remember you expressing your fondness. I didn't think he was part of the forums. At least I didn't recall him posting or anything. But yes, that was whom I was referring. I meant nothing derogatory by dubbing the term little. I hope it wasn't taken as such. I apologize if it was.
Words contained in posts, at which point I stop reading and will not respond...
Toon / Mana / WoW or any acronym following "In ___" /
Pets (when referring to summoned Daedra) / Any verbiage to express slang (ie, ending in uz,az,..) / Soul Stone
    ... to be continued.

    Now, get off my lawn.

Ah okay. No worries. Hes actually over a decade older >< so "little" made me go "wat".

Known him almost 9.5 years now. Flying out to see him next spring, officer in my first and last EQ2 guild(which I moved to ESO).

Hes not the greatest of players and Im concerned solo difficulty of main quest is going to make him quit, but yeah. ><

I am all for in game voice chat. But unless you are in a group, you should only be able to hear people that are NEAR you, like the say option, no more than a 5 meter radius or something like that. If you are in a group, obviously it should be game wide.

I dont want to hear people near me either.

Most in game chat has group, raid, guild channels and custom channels. No general channels.
Then turn it off? But I think that group, raid, guild channels, and custom channels is also a good idea, I just would like a general one as well, you could simply turn it off. Then I can finally tell if that female elf is actually female, lol, or not.

Which is exactly why many people will not want voice chat ingame at all. Speaking from the experience of being in guilds with multiple females (last WoW guild was around 50%), the last thing most of them wanted was to deal with the *** who were more worried about what kind of plumbing they had rather than if they could play their class/character well.
I don't care about their "plumbing", lol. I just want to expose the people that act like a chick and are really a guy.

    Also this.

Im female. My main is a male Nord. I prefer not announcing it.

And when games have it built in it becomes mandatory to pug.

No. If you cant fuctiin in a mmo without voice, thats your problem.
I could say the exact same thing, but from my point of view. If you cant function in an mmo WITH voice, that's your problem. It would be as simple as turning it off. You wouldn't have to use it.

I vote with an emphatic.. yes.

.. and it can't come quick enough. I have other things to do with my hands, like control my character. I don't want to stop and have to go through the process of typing out anything as the new player I want to interact with is... gone.

No 3rd party software cannot accommodate that, no matter how techy it has evolved.

    100 percent agree.

Who are you to say a male or female sounding person that possibly identifies as the opposite sex that they are not male or female.

Oh for the love of god, don't start a gender identity flame war. Just to make it clear before this even starts, I have no problem with anyone doing what makes them happy. End. But it does get aggravating when I am role playing and the person I was role playing with flirts with me and I find out its a 50 year old male that weighs 300 pounds. That's what I am talking about.

Wow tried a voice chat briefly, and nobody I know even uses it anymore.
Starcraft allegedly has one, but again, who uses voice chat for starcraft?
Frankly quite glad more games dont have voice chat since most fps games have adolescent elementary school kids screaming in your ears.
Have you seen some of the people in zone chat while leveling? People don't even want to bother googling anything anymore, let alone read quest text or learn anything from the tutorial.

No. I do not think this game needs that. I don't want to have to listen to the dweebs in zone chat over my headphones as well.
EVERYONE who plays starcraft semi pro or professionally uses voice chat in SC, lol. You are too busy using hotkeys too stop and type out strategies, lol.

Sakiri: "No. I will not support it nor will I use it if ever its added."

good, getting sick of 'hearing' it from you.

Voice chat should be implemented instead of this archaic bs typing. It should be your choice whether you want to use it or not. A lot of MMOs have successfully used VOIP resulting in an engaging and immersive atmosphere. I don't care if you 'don't want to use it', I care about those who do want to use it, and want to talk about things instead of typing them. Even beyond this, its a shame that ESO has not implemented a basic utility like VOIP.

As far as the male or female topic, many voice generators exist. They can emulate many different voices very well, so don't trust your senses (on the internet).

As far as 'underage' people in this game, they should not be playing this game.

As far as 180 wpm, bs.

Devs, its 2014, get with the program. I am now going to play some DDO and TALK with some friends. I will then later, maybe, come back and play some ESO by myself. I would coax some of my friends to play ESO, but they would not be able to understand why we could not talk.

Heck you cant get people to use a headset now...People need to be educated on using TS and headset because it sure does make it exhausting trying to appease the non headset pvpers by typing commands when you can just say it.

*i.e. type, type, drive horse off a cliff...
If I am going to quote someone, it's going to be me.

Sounds like hes gotten screwed over doting on a "girl" that was actually a guy to me.

And I "can" function with it, just not with people like him. And it *will* become compulsory precisely because of people like him and people that are too lazy to type.

TBH, there's better things devs can be spending their time on. The two major voice apps (mumble and TS) are free, servers are cheap (or even free) and they're not restricted to a single game.
    Sakiri wrote: »

I've heard plenty of good reasons for people not wanting to use voice comms. This isn't one of them.

Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

that's very inconvenient and non-homogenous. I want a practical voip that is designed for this game and will be used by (the majority of) this community. It must be user friendly and instantaneously activated when joining a (pug) group.

This is my main point as well. With an ingame VOIP, the targeted character doesn't even need to have a headset on. The second you call their name, they hear you. That response time cannot be mimicked with 3rd party.

You must have met vetter people than I, because its most certainly one of the ones Ive hearx, but to each his own.

Which is fine and dandy but theyd need to have it on first. Which many wont.

More rhan a few people have absolutely no desire to actually speak with people in this game. And I still feel the dev time is better spent elsewhere.

Im also seeming to remember that they may have already covered this on the beta forums but my memory is probably off.

I also dont think theyll be able to pull something off with any sort of decency. IE: no sound normalization, no exclusion from channels, no way for a channel owner to globally mute that annoying jerk...

Yeah. Not using it even if they did add it.

I really hope they add group voice chat, particularly for use in Cyrodiil, but also for dungeon/questing groups. Typing just takes too long and is easily overlooked.

And if someone has it disabled? You will shout in your mic and nothing gets across and you wipe :)

Having a voice chat does not mean you can throw away your keyboard. It will be very interesting to see what happens if you form a group and the Healer doesn't use voice chat.

Will you now kick the healer and wait another 30 minutes or will you lower your standards and type? :D

18 years playing online computer games and I still think tactical shooters are the only genre that's best served with VOIP integrated play.
End the tedious inventory management game.

I think voice chat should be added at least for grouping

I can only imagine how much suffering the Xbox one and the ps4 players would have without the texting pad to having to use a stupid slider to go all the way across to one letter then all the way back for the other that would suck

if it was like that I would find the game on sale on Kijiji for about $10 then if PC version does not have voice chat but the Xbox one and the ps4 does there would be a huge lag in response between PC Xbox one and ps4 they would still want to throw the game out

besides you should tailor to the people that are slow typers like me sometimes I wish they had voice to text in game
just the loneliest guy in the game
