been playing on and off for 2-3 years..still dont have a main character..is this normal?

I like tanking as a Dk but dont like it as a dps.

Sorc pets just in the way

werewolf, i wanted to quest with it but im not so sure now

Templar..that spear thing is nice but seems like its the only skill i do.

warden..havent really played but wanted to tank with it and stopped at level 15 with it.

the only thing i like is scrying and being completely lost where ever i go. Id like to do all the quests at least once but i try one class go for a few weeks then either delete or make something else..its all i been doing for these few years.

anyone else go through this?

I don't really have a single main character either. I have 4 characters I spend relatively equal time on. In my case it's a dk tank, a stamina templar, a stamina nightblade and a magicka warden. I do have way more characters than that but those ones get the most attention.

I have a main crafter that is nearly finished researching every trait and learns all crafting motifs etc.

Other than that, I play whichever one I feel like at the time. With the armoury, many of them have different configurations too.

Play whatever you feel like at the time. I wouldn't worry about what is considered "normal". Just have fun.

I'd consider my first active character, a warden who started his journey with Summerset's release, my main. He's the only one that I've done active achievement hunting, levelling of skills, learning of crafting recipes and all the quests with. I have plenty of alts and do consider them part of my ongoing story, but it is just that I play most of my alts so rarely that I forget how they were set up and get their skills confused, particularly for the classes that use very similar icons like dk and templar.

If I were to roleplay everything then I would not have my main as the "lead character" for every quest line, but have some of my alts do some as well. Indeed I usually create a new alt for each chapter, so that I can figure out how to do the quests in a nice order on my main, and explore more freely without the fear of missing stuff or making choices I wish I had not. So for example, I'd say my main character might have travelled with Ayrenn to High Isle last year, got washed up and rescued by the alt I'd created for the chapter, and form there on they'd divide the quests for that chapter between them.

So I'd say while I have a main he is simply the most vocal voice in the chorus. And during the crafting madness of the anniversary event, they all come out to play.

I've only ever had 1 character, and have played ESO for about 2.5 years now. I get the strong impression I'm atypical in that regard, though. I could never have any alts, because I just can't seem to find the time.

My first character recently maxed all 3 of the mount skills. But he isn't my main as two newer classes have been introduced since. I've had loads of Alts since (and at the same time). I decided my necro is my main bit I still play other alts, for fun. Only used my main during the latest event though.

I think it is smart to try out different classes and see what you like before spending too much time with them. It is too bad you haven't found something you like in 2 - 3 years though.

It is normal for many folks not to have a main but you should like the game if you play it.

I have a couple of suggestions.

1. We have a lot of character slots so you don't need to delete them. Make at least one of each class, spend a little time with each, and then pick the one that resonates most to try and master it a bit. Doesn't mean it has to be your "main" but it does take a little time to learn the classes and they do have different feels. All classes will ultimately feel more natural and fun if you learn the ins and outs of one of them.

2. Check out online builds if you haven't. Alcast has a lot of solo builds published and it is a good starting guide for which abilities to unlock and how to have bar load outs that synergize and make the class more fun. Eventually you can figure this out on your own but it is nice to have help when starting out.

And actually I have been here since 2014 and often use content creator builds as a starting guide for something to try. Like for your example with templar you could watch videos and see how to effectively leverage other skills besides jabs.

My crafter Za'Dar (Khajiit MagDK), is my first character and the one I collect all the motifs, skyshards, etc with. I have 5 "main" characters and 8 secondary characters. It's mainly the story line of the main quest in an area that decide which character I use.

I have one character and that's it. I just don't have the desire to create and level another. I wish I could understand why people play dozens of different characters but I just don't get it, I'm happy with one. More power to them though.

I have 16 characters created over the years who all saw decent play time with thier creation but are mostly anniversary writ crafters and storage mules.

My first character my NB has 4 armory slots as he is the one I still play the most but constantly change between Stam and Mag DPS with an occasional spell as a healer or tank mixed in. He does all the questing and crafting things and is played daily for a few activities no matter my plan for the day.

I also have a Templar who is my primary healer and also my arena farm character due to ease of use with jabby jabs. When new dungeon/trial content comes out this is the one I grab to test the waters as a healer as that's where i am most comfortable pugging. Will also run randoms with guildies as needed as well.

Then I have my Necro Tank who was built for my guilds Friday tipsy trials runs as we were low on tanks at the time heavy on healers and I am a weak DPS at best. We do mostly normal trials for fun but this tank is capable of Vet trials and Vet Dungeons as well.

The others I jump on from time to time to do random BG's a normal dungeons but never get any real traction but are available when I need a little change of pace.
