It was a very very long fight since he seems to have significant hp regen to counter my tank's whopping 5k dps. Beating his health down was 3 steps forward and 2 back. I couldn't keep Isobel out of his red that well and still damage the boss so lost her at one point. Oh great, even less dps. Then I remembered there's a good reason my tank has +40k health and capped resists. He just briefly stopped fighting and resurrected Isobel no problem, losing but a sliver of his own health. The rest of the fight went fine but I was surprised this boss has such good hp regen.

My main problem with companions is that they consistently stand in red, most of the time making no effort to get out of it. They do help you solo a lot of content but die a lot because of this.

Like getting kill enemy players and capture keep quest complete while dead outside it.This is no different than you, as a player, continuing to get experience from your group members' kills while lying on the ground dead.
I suppose you could say that your soul/spirit/whatever is observing and learning from the combat (since you, as the player, can still watch the combat unfold from your death screen), and I suppose this line of reasoning can be applicable for companions as well.

As to keeping her (and other companions) alive, this one has found it useful to have:
For companions who are tanks, use heavy armour’s skill, Bulwark. This will give them a bit of grace period.
This one always has some sort of healing skills available: for example if Dragonknight, use cauterise or obsidian shard.
Have the second bar as healer/resto staff as combat prayer is quite helpful.
Before boss fight, this one changes the companions skills to ensure one heal and one shield/evade are slotted.
Of course, there is always the stupid fatal attraction of “standing in 🔴 “ but with those preventatives, companions die much less.
For some weird reason, when I read the title, I thought it meant to imply that your companion actively liked it when YOU died.
And now the idea of a companion who likes it when the player dies is stuck in my head. That would be low key hilarious.A sadistic companion…
it reminds me of the time Mirri got rapport when I got caught in a delve blade trap. For some reason, she liked that.

how hilarious would it be if you were negative rapport after using the blade of woe like a thousand times, and companions like Bastian and Mirri liked it when you died.
but to those of us saying companions should walk out of AOEs- if they start doing this for companions, then the AI in the game is going to get this ability. We need the ability to direct them on where to move, not for them to automatically walk out of AOEs. If they improve the AI to auto walk out of AOEs then it will make other encounters much more annoying and it will be a huge nerf to anyone who uses AOE dots, forcing us to use sticky dots instead.

I have Isobel outfitted as a tank. Usually I have no problem ensuring she stays alive. For some reason, during this particular round, I got hung up on some spurious pixals and was unable to roll and evade. By the time I managed to get free, Isobel was dead.
The team for this match was my primary healer and another player's DD/tank, as well as our two companions. Once I managed to regain mobility, I put my focus on healing up the team and keeping all three of us alive until we achieved victory.
Now that I think about it, what ever caused me to get hung up might be related to the delayed companion rapport increase message.
