Had to put this huge title on this.

I’m a casual. Hello. Devs. IM A CASUAL. I’m not a top tier raider. Or PVMER. Played this game since day 1 though. I always get crown crates and homes. And purchase tons of crown store items. While I also enjoy the game casually. Anytime I want

I watch content creators for advice on builds. And I have actually done a few high end raids. But very casually.

I did them just fine btw.

This patch. Is a literal nightmare. A literal nightmare to this game. I will no longer spend another single dime until this situation is fixed .

I have to put this $ amount on my post for posterity because people …. IT IS RELEVANT.

Mods. You can’t mute me for trolling or baiting this is literal relevant data. You’ve got players here. With wallets. And money GIVING YOU FEEDBACK

read my next words VERY CAREFULLY. Read it slowly and trust me this is 100% accurate.

If you censor our posts. You are 100% censoring my money into your hands. You will not get it.

I repeat. You will not get it.

    Lol damn.

Yeah all of my purchases have been for like the home related stuff and cosmetics basically from crown crates. Which has always been my justification I love the housing system

That being said I ALSO super enjoy the combat. And pvp. And pve.

I’ve got yellowed out sets maxing out my bank and char inventory for multiple builds.

This patch is an absolute disaster. It’s not good for a single group or tier of the player base.

What part of the patch did you not like? Did you try doing any content in particular? Did you try different gear or rotation? Did you check out any content creator suggestions about what to change in your setup?

TBH your post has no relevant feedback besides your dislike for the patch.

    Favorite Foods and Potions
    https://media.giphy.com/media/3otPoTggaYFNd1FdAI/giphy.gif
    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Casuals are not expected to change their build and gear and possibly even class they are maining 4 times per year to stay where they were. I'm casual and I could do it easily, it's just I do not find it particulary interesting. I'd rather pick some flowers or do some quests, solo a normal dungeon or WB or maybe even do a casual group dungeon or trial run than refiddle with my character.
I only buy games and expansions from sale and never buy any cash shop currencies. I do subs however.

You've perfectly explained why this patch is bad for casuals. Why should they have to do any of this as often as ZOS is making them?

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

The relevance is obvious and substantial. If the whales quit spending their money on the game due to poor management decisions it's relevant.

You've perfectly explained why this patch is bad for casuals. Why should they have to do any of this as often as ZOS is making them?

Because this game has always been about horizontal progression. ZOS will inevitably shake the proverbial snow globe every now and then with a patch that nerfs/changes aspects of gameplay. The first version of this patch was significantly worst, but ZOS listened to feedback and eased up on some of the changes. The OP claims to check out content creators yet wasn't able to find a solution to how they can adjust their playstyle. The OP also does not explain what content they have recently tried, so there is nothing to really compare their current live experience to how it was before the patch dropped.

It has already been discussed to a significant degree on the PTS forum about why this patch is bad for casuals even though it is seemingly being promoted as a raise the floor patch. Now that could be a proper discussion, but that is not this post.

TBH your post has no relevant feedback besides your dislike for the patch.

The relevance is obvious and substantial. If the whales quit spending their money on the game due to poor management decisions it's relevant.

You really underestimate how many whales are in this game that aren't overly focused on things past overland content, which is still something that can be done with one's eyes closed. We also have housing whales and fashion whales who might not even care about other aspects of the game.

Of course money talks, but using that as the foundation of why OP's subjective opinion is valid is ridiculous.

We also have housing whales and fashion whales who might not even care about other aspects of the game.

With a patch that still alienates lower-skill players who generally prefer casual content already, many of those whales are going to be entertaining the idea of moving on. This is feedback that is relevant regardless of emperical data points because an exodus of disgruntled financial supporters is definitely going to impact their ambitions to do other things like improve performance.

This game's roleplay community is not exactly in a very healthy place either. I also spend thousands every year because I love the game; There are entire patches where I might spend $1200 on housing and all I do is log on to RP. But I also play the rest of the game at a strictly mid-range level and have been content with that.

I was able to play taking advantage of the horizontal nature to use less-than-meta sets to play characters, as a roleplaying game should do. I've been pressured out of being able to take advantage of the fun niche builds or else lose 50% of my damage, effectively cutting off access to anything but overland unless I change to a more streamlined 'meta' build. I don't like either of these options, and so, despite my attachment to the world and the housing system, the thought of moving on presents itself to me. And for now, I have chosen to do so - and not spending the $200 or so I was planning on getting and decorating the new house.

If the only thing I have to look forward to doing is logging in to RP, Discord doesn't cost $15 a month, nor will I have to pay $80 for a house and $300 on loot boxes for a chance to get some windows for said house. This is the competition ESO now has to face, not another MMO, but the competition of not spending money to get the same enjoyment, since every other aspect has become less appealing due to changes in the feel and pace of content.

I’ve definitely spent more than $1,000 on this game between two ESO+ subscriptions, collector’s edition DLC, houses, and crown crates. This patch has also convinced me to never spend another dollar on this game until this patch is reverted—and even then, to be honest, trust has been shattered and hope depleted, so it’s really not even a guarantee I’d come back anyway.

If you want to pin it on some specific change: the obliteration of Templars as a class.

I am also a (minor) whale. Not a Blue, maybe a Pilot Whale. But I ALSO do content and my little friends group were progressing along with the vet dungeons and were at another DPS standstill. I'm also 60 years old and not a twitch gamer any more. The Oakensoul Ring allowed me to up my game from 35k sustained to 45. First time I'd been able to break 40 sustained. I felt like I was finally "adequate" for some of the upper mid level content. This patch has me sitting right back at "mediocre" and has made any further progression for our group unthinkable.

I am gutted, mentally as well as in game. I feel no need to spend money again myself. My reward for being a long time player has been a kick in the teeth.

Same. I mained templar. Now I'm looking for another game because if they'll do this to one class they'll do it to any class. If I learn to play another class well, it'll probably just happen again and I'll just have to start all over again.

It's legitimate feedback from a player who spends lots of money on the game. They are explaining why they won't be spending the same money any longer, not saying they're quitting the game, just quitting spending so much money on it.

The Devs already can read hundreds of PTS pages of how U35 upset expert testers.
TESTERS BEGGED ZOS NOT TO RELEASE U35 because of the damage it does to the game.
After release ZOS now gets the casual end customer experience. What more do they need?

Im somewhere between you and the OP as far as money spent. Been playing since december 2015. I still love eso, but what they did to templar is disgusting. At first i wasnt to concerned about the update because i hadnt heard about the travesty commited against the templar class but now, ZOS has gone to far with these updates. Im tired of every 3 months having to change builds, it exhausting.

Change is hard and scary. I get it. It’s a live service game. It’s an MMO. Things change. They iterate. We need to think about our tone of how we as a community approach that process. “Read my next words very carefully…” like come on.

If your a casual why does it matter how much DPS you can do?

Assuming low end casual, spending much longer with a boring rotation, not being able to complete stuff they had done similar.

Mid to upper end will do dungeons(possibly normal non-dlc trials). Again, really dull rotation, dungeons either not being able to be completed, or taking significantly longer and being less fun.

I am not sure what you think casuals do, but they are not running around farming mudcrabs.

On a personal note, not as a casual, absolutely loved vDSR last night. So, so much fun doing way less dps, hating my rotation and having the whole group struggle on content that should have been far easier.

You've perfectly explained why this patch is bad for casuals. Why should they have to do any of this as often as ZOS is making them?

Because this game has always been about horizontal progression. ZOS will inevitably shake the proverbial snow globe every now and then with a patch that nerfs/changes aspects of gameplay. oted as a raise the floor patch.

Then casuals will continue to leave. As will anyone else who hates relearning an entire game every patch. Other mmos dont do this so often. Have fun with your endless beta, I guess.

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

If your a casual why does it matter how much DPS you can do?

Can't obviously answer for the OP, but I consider myself a casual player, too. I have limited time and I treat the game for what I believe it is: an Elder Scroll experience. I play 90% of my time solo and I enjoy soloing normal dungeons, world bosses and the occasional arena when in comes to combat related things. I even drop into Cyrodil every now and then since I need transmute crystals as somehow ZOS still hasn't them in the crown store.

I also enjoy playing themed characters. I don't care about meta, I care about a character theme. The looks, weapons and skills that make that theme. An example: one of my necromancers really follows the theme with only skills that "look right" for a lich, uses sets that spawn those lich crystals that explode and another that desecrated the ground.

If any of my activities gets severely limited on many of my favourite characters by a patch without giving my much options how to make then viable and/or fun again, that's the point where the game has lost its appeal for me and also the point where I consider not spending any more money on it.

And since we are talking money, $5k over that many years is a negligible amount from my point of view and how much I'm spending on this game. That being said, I haven't cancelled my subscription nor did U35 stop me from buying an unreasonable amount of crowns on sale. I simply didn't have enough time yet to asses the situation.

I only managed to get my main through a dungeon and some DLC world bosses and the gutted healing is a serious concern for me as a solo player. I personally am fine with the damage changes as such, but nerfing both damage and healing I already know will be an issue for many of my characters. If it turns out I can't play too many of them the way I like, THEN I will take another break from the game and see how things are in 6 months time.

ESO always had a sledgehammer problem when it comes to combat. At the end of the day, I always managed to adapt, although some of the times were damn close to drive me away. Morrowind chapter comes to mind. But I also have a different view on things: these changes keep the game interesting for me.

They are (for me) a nice reason to try something different. U35 I'm trying a HA approach for the first time properly. Not sure I like it though so far... I do however understand the outrage here on the forums. If I would approach the game differently and I would log in and find nothing working like I'm used and the whole setup I worked hard to get to changed entirely, I would quit. And for the love of all the divines I hope they will make a new Flurry animation. I mean the templar one can be argued about, more of a taste thing in my opinion, but the Flurry animation is just bad on every single level :P

As a player who also spent stupid amounts of money on this game over 3 years, I can also 100% promise that I won't spend anything more on this game. The changes made this patch is beyond ridiculous. If I was doing Trails I would quit the game at this point.

Same. I mained templar. Now I'm looking for another game because if they'll do this to one class they'll do it to any class. If I learn to play another class well, it'll probably just happen again and I'll just have to start all over again.

I think it's especially more concerning, because if they'll do this to what has long been, very obviously, the devs favorite class then no one is safe.

I am far from a whale. I am also not a very good player, bluntly. I haven't even had a chance to try and see how this patch feels because right as I was going to log in today, the server went down for maintenance lmao.

But I find it telling how universally loathed it seems to feel. Even those who aren't upset over damage seem pretty disgusted or underwhelmed by how it feels, and that concerns me. Combat isn't my favorite part of this game, but it can be very fun when in the mood for it, and if what I'm gleaning from all this has any merit whatever, ZOS took feedback and went ahead with shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm still going to play, give a whirl (...or whorl, I guess, those being the only things worth using from what I understand. What a coincidence, that.) but I'm not renewing my subscription and honestly, I expect I'll probably spend most of my time fishing and chatting with friends.

My wife and I have spent thousands of dollars on ESO since launch, but U35 is the straw that broke the back. I'm choosing to no longer support the game with a sub, and money I would have spent during the recent crown sale, I instead saved and am considering spending it to catch up on previous and upcoming expansions of my previous MMO home.

Over the years, I've been pretty loyal to the MMO I'm playing at the time, and never have an issue supporting them financially, provided I feel respected as a customer. I've been disappointed with previous patches, but this one just feels different. I consider myself a mid-tier player. Over the last few months, I've finally been able to finish vMA on a consistent basis, although with many deaths each run. Now, I'm back to not being able to get through it. I went from looking forward to completing my vMA collection and moving on to try Vateshran, to seeing that content as out of reach again.

Bottom line, I no longer see ESO as a place I'm happy to pay money for. I'll pop in and play every now and then, but will treat it as a free to play game moving forward.

You didnt say anything about what upset you. Did you forget to post that? What do you want the Devs to read ?
The Devs already can read hundreds of PTS pages of how U35 upset expert testers.
TESTERS BEGGED ZOS NOT TO RELEASE U35 because of the damage it does to the game.
After release ZOS now gets the casual end customer experience. What more do they need?

I was going to say this too. After U33 and U35, what is the point of adding details that have been said and ignored a million times over already?
If your a casual why does it matter how much DPS you can do?

Ask the definition of a casual on the forums, get a million different answers. The other day someone described me as a casual because I only log about 9 hours a week in game, even though I'm in a trial prog group. I don't really think putting this label on someone and then subsequently assuming they do or do not like to do certain things in ESO is productive. One does not have to be a "hard-core end game min/maxer" to be impacted by combat changes. In fact, few if any players are NOT impacted by widespread combat changes, and if the community universally says that an overhaul makes the game less fun to play, ZOS should listen to them! No matter what "label" they are.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

If $5,000 over 8 years feels like a flex to you, perhaps that’s not actually play money for you and you should reflect on that spending habit.

Change is hard and scary. I get it. It’s a live service game. It’s an MMO. Things change. They iterate. We need to think about our tone of how we as a community approach that process. “Read my next words very carefully…” like come on.

But you would think change would also be improvement, and I daresay U35 is not an improvement.

What was needed was a scalpel and a surgeon's precision for some combat and balance issues, and instead they brought the sledgehammer down on everything and just like we predicted everyone is upset. There was no need for most of the balance changes in this patch, even after buffing some of the nerfs on PTS.

Now the next two weeks or so will be spent discussing how to revert a lot of these changes, and the next patch will be step 1 toward bringing the game balance back more or less to what it would have been if they used a surgeon's scalpel on U34.
