Are character names important to you?

    Kinda, Names matter a little
I usually have a feel for what I want them to be and how I want them to look. When I'm done, I fashion a name that suits and put some care into it. It's important, but not my main focus.

Sometimes however I've timed out because I took too long to come up with a name XD And that's infuriating, because I took twice as long to get everything else right. %)

No, I just name it whatever I feel like
I prefer short names with no ûmlåùtß or ingame meaning. Lore friendly names tend to be too long and potentially get unintended attention from the easily offended.

    Yes, Names are EVERYTHING
I like to make my characters feel like they belong. Problem is if someone comes up with a name you cant do it. I was thinking of making an argonian I wouldve called "Lost-in-Sauce" but someone did it already.

And with so many players over the years now its hard to get a name for a character that isnt taken already unless you add an epithet or surname. This is especially hard if you want a Roman sounding imperial character.

    Haha funny name brrr
I control all my characters. Therefore, according to my lore, these bodies are controlled by my soul, which migrated from our world. And none of its inhabitants suspects about it. Therefore, all my names are taken from our reality.

    Yes, Names are EVERYTHING
Saying they are EVERYTHING is a bit extreme, but as a big roleplaying and lore nerd I spend a lot of time making a character. They need a good name, appearance, backstory etc. I'm also very picky, so it is important to me
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

I like to pick names that I think fit the TES world, usually by looking them up on UESP. And because of that, I don't believe that names have to fit the individual or details like their class. Most names are chosen around the time a person is born, when nobody really knows anything about them. Argonian names and nicknames, including those used by Nords, are exceptions. And place names I suppose. I did choose "al-Elinhir" for a Redguard "witchhunter" with that city as his hometown, whereas Earos of Upvale was supposed to have a Direnni connection, but I only bothered because Earos was taken.

Perhaps not “everything,” but names are very important to me. I haven’t deleted a character due to a name mishap, but I have paid for a name change token. I am much more careful now!

I tend to name by character backstory rather than their current occupation. So usually not Bone Jockey Jane or Kevan the Corpse Wrangler. I named my Nord necromancer Revna plus a surname. Hints at revenant and raven but is still a name her parents could have given her.

Maybe browse real-world names that fit the character’s culture until you find something that sticks, then touch it up to fit the ESO world. Good luck if it’s an Altmer! I find those the hardest.
