There is never a good reason in any game for downward adjustments across the board.

Downward adjustments are almost always better for the health and balance of any game.

For some reason the ESO community expects average DPS to just go up and up every patch, with no end in sight...

Well, why shouldn't it? They are making harder content, and we love that. Why SHOULDN'T we get more damage to take into the harder content?
If they would just BALANCE PVP AND PVE SEPARATELY, as people have been asking for for YEARS, this would be totally fine. A vocal few would complain overland in Kenarthi's Roost is too easy. Everyone else would be happily taking their damage into the hardest new content.

While I would tend to agree, there is a lot more going on in this patch than just fighting back the power creep. These aren't just simple number changes, they fundamentally change the way combat plays out in both pve and pvp. Durations on dots doubling means most rotations people have perfected over the years go out the window. Many class abilities besides dots were changed or nerfed as well. The issue here is that this patch is going to induce a massive meta shift, which the eso community is rightfully against. Sure, shorten the gap between high end and low end pve dps, I'm all for it. That is, until I have to completely or partially rebuild all 9 of my max level characters. That entails set grinding, grinding for new skills and morphs, golding out new gear, etc. As a veteran of this game that simply isn't something I want to spend a lot of time doing, I've put in my time and work already getting to the endgame. I'd much rather try out a trial I've never done, or pvp.

TLDR: The issue here isn't downward adjustment, but rather that we get a large meta shift every couple of months, and it's exhausting to keep up with.

This feels like an intentional kick in the you-know-what of the veteran community. These fundamental changes to how the classes play is just shocking. I don't know why I didn't think Zos was capable of something like this. But I didn't think they would just destroy all the hard work and practice I've put into my toons. I have a 5 Star magden that I won't even know how to play if and when these changes go live. How is that ok? To have to fundamentally relearn my 5 Star pvp toon? It's appalling.

And then Rich's tweet about "knee-jerk" reactions. How tone deaf can one person be. These forums are awash in apoplectic complaints now. Your veteran community is in complete revolt, Zos. And the saddest thing is, no one here believes you actually care. Because if you did care, you wouldn't have come up with this monstrosity of a patch in the first place.

You mean you don't enjoy never feeling secure enough to gold a set because you know it's going to change next patch?

To be fair, he did make the tweet when the update was announced, not when the patch notes came out. So I think he was justified saying what he said because people were definitely overreacting to the changes when they first came out. Don't get me wrong, this update is horrible and the dev team needs to know that, but don't take this tweet out of context.

This is the first time I saw the forums, reddit, eso-u discord, and other sns mostly agree on something: THIS PATCH IS BAD. Like bruh fr.

I cancelled today after reading them. ZoS apparently has no idea what they are doing with combat anymore.

There's a difference between making adjustments and taking a chainsaw to 80% of combat mechanics. I'm pretty sure people have already dug up various tweets/threads/streams where the combat team promised not to do something this overreaching ever again.

I fully expect them giving us these changes were so they can give us a less nerfed version. Then we can say,' Well, at least it is better than week 1' , and be grateful for small mercies.

It is still a hammer to the face and after a while you just don't need that headache anymore.

This is also similar to their, 'Buy this expansion for x gear', 'We need to nerf x gear', knowing full well that was what they were going to do anyway, but it sold expansions.

I am really disliking the duplicity that appears to happen on a too frequent a basis to be coincidental.
