This system is not necessary and it's not helpful in any way. Forum posts don't need to be ranked or approved of by other players.

What is needed is a return of the Disagree button, and a rep system so that posts with silly opinions can be downvoted to Oblivion.

Not all posts are equal and forum users should be able to support comments they relate to.

These are an important forum feature to gauge community reaction to posts.

I'd go a step further and add a dislike button but I understand why they won't go that far in order to protect fragile people and foster a nice non toxic environment on the forum.

An agree button just removes post like
      Thing I agree with

      This, QFT, 100%, etc.

It doesn't actually remove any new information of quality. So there's nothing wrong with keeping them around.

It'd be a pity to remove them. I like to give people who take their time to write an interesting comment on lore and a helpful reply to a question an "awesome" or "insightful" as a "thank you" gesture.

Wouldn't it be better if people explain why they disagree? Constructive criticism leads to a solution, just disagreeing mostly not.

These three harmless things are not a problem at all. But what is needed is more space in the ignore list. Twelve positions is not even remotely enough.

I agree, but more often than not i dont agree posts tend to be this is terrible and this is why you're 100% wrong posts, which will still exist no matter what sadly.

I find the reactions helpful as a forum user, in combination with the lack of a disagree button.

Agrees help cut down on the clutter of posts that consist of nothing more that "I agree" or "this^".

If I see something that's a helpful guide, piece of advice, well-written argument, or in-depth discussion of something in the game, I try to award an insightful.

Awesomes give us a nice way to respond to something we think is funny/creative/interesting, while cutting down on responses that just consist of "LOL" or "That's amazing!"

Meanwhile the lack of a disagree button means that the majority of people who disagree will either post a reasonable explanation of why they disagree, or just hit agree on the post someone else wrote. I get a lot more out of reading the debate than I do from fly-by downvotes by people who never otherwise engage.

It's not popularity contest though, as so many seem to think it is. It makes more sense to me for discussions to stand on their own merits and not whether or not the opinion is popular or not.

What makes you think this? I can understand people hoping for compliments if they post their art or tutorials here (and this is completely fine), but in discussions? I always just write what I think and assume that people usually do the same. At least I don't see any sense in uterring an opinion that's not my own (Wouldn't that basically mean disagreeing with myself in a discussion?).

I'm not sure why reactions make something into a popularity contest? It's not like we're somehow voting for whether or not ZOS should do something or not. We're just giving our feedback by posting, reacting, or both.

If ZOS wants a simple poll to let them know whether something was popular, they'll do one themselves. They did with the last surprise Explorer's Event after people complained about not getting enough notice, and it turned out roughly 60/40 in favor of surprise events.

If you're concerned about unpopular discussions standing on their own merits, I'll note that positive-only reactions don't get threads shut down. Nasty comments do.

I would like to see this happen. I have to use Awesome as an LOL substitute and as we all know from programming, it isn't good to have multiple uses for the same field as it muddies the data. ;)

I like that there isn't a disagree choice on the forums. There's enough negativity here. I think it would be used to target comments/people. There's no reason to pile on a bunch of disagrees. Either we ignore the comments or take the time to type out a counter argument (hopefully in a positive, constructive way). But in many cases it is best to just ignore silly ideas. Disagree would give them power and make the forums more polarizing.

OP if you're not logged in the forums, you can't see the ratings, so you can try that, if it bothers you. Personally, I think it's nice that we can interact with a post, it's not something that has huge implications anyway.

A forum where teabagging isn't "sechual" harassment because you aren't allowed to call it what it is will never approve to anything critical like disagreeing via one button.

Which seems absurd and undemocratic to me.

I think it helps the discussion. Can you imagine all the "everyone thinks that xxxx" posts without easily being able to see that lots of people agree with the post saying you are wrong?
