Ember doesn't say much.

I've got my companion interactions set to frequent. She'll mention something occasionally when entering a town, but with her being a mage eager to learn new things outside of her tower I took her to Eyevea, Artaeum, and Fargrave. Got zero remarks about anything from her. Felt a little disappointed honestly. I was excited at the prospect of taking this mentor role and showing her adventure. She felt so alive in her introductory quest, and now she's just...there. And even then only half so.

There should be a bit more than that, according to this page (WARNING: contains Ember dialogue spoilers):

    It's a reasonably long list.

In a couple more weeks, we'll be back to requesting a 'never' option for dialog frequency.

She's a mage, but she's a lot more into thieving stuff, so her "places comments" are more focused on that.
Glory to you and your Dunmer House!

Ember isn't the only one. All companions don't have much to say aside from generic statements on your activities or general locations. "I like cities", "wow you stole something", "hey, we killed someone", "cool place". I know at least Mirri has a few comments on the Clockwork City and I think all of them have a location or 2 that are important to them, and they comment on them. But that's about it.

If you look at their dialogue lists on the wiki, they actually have a whole pile of lines... but unless you do widely-varied activities constantly, you'll mostly hear ones from the same smaller pool of lines around the things you do the most.

edit: I was really surprised when I saw the list on Mirri's page a while back. But then I realized that I'd be unlikely to ever hear more than half of them, and the stuff I did 90% of the time covered less than 25% of them.

It's ok. Since there's no option to completely mute the companions - who knows why - it's better that companions don't have much to say. I'm using Ember more than any other annoying companion exactly because there's less talk. Even so, I'm already starting to get tired too. They really should unlock the option to mute companions (account wide) as soon as we already complete all the story and listened to all the companions nagging. After that it's just bad game design an torture. They need to remember that this is not a game to play one time for a few hours.

We need options to mute companions and put them a helmet (to minimize the clone infestation aspect). That's two very very important updates to let us properly enjoy the companions.

This is an extremely insightful comment.

ZOS could probably make companions feel extremely more alive and less repetitive by adding multiple potential comments per activity (even if they had less triggers). Because so many of us tend to spend more time in certain activities. That's why the angst when "forcing" PvE'ers into PvP and vice versa is so great. While personally I think some of that is what makes ESO special, there is a line I sometimes wish they would adjust... especially when it comes to leads... but I digress. I'm now imagining how much better the companions would be if they had different comments for gathering based on location or node type or just more to choose from.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.
