A player asked me to leave!

This morning I logged in to quickly knock out the weekly endeavors, kill 250 opponents with class ability. I was running through one of the circle shaped delves and had been in there by myself for about 20 minutes, when another player entered. After about 5 more minutes I received a local message. The other player was asking if I would "please" move to another delve. Why? Because they wanted to knock out the weekly endeavor as quickly as possible!

Seriously!?!

A new player has been added to my block list.

Something like this happened to me too. I was waiting for a boss to spawn in a delve because it dropped a lead. I stood in wait across the room from it. Another player comes and the boss spawns right as they arrive. I notice that the boss has spawned, sprint over and attack the boss as well only for that other player to tell me that I am being reported...? That was completely baffling to me. That player tried to spin it as if I was taking the boss away from them and ruining their game somehow but they almost instantly blocked me after sending that whisper message. I was stunned.

Yeah it happens. I was going to say MMOs don't work like that, then I remembered some actually do, unofficially at least. There are games where the prefered way to level up is to find and claim a 'grind spot' and just stay there killing stuff, and in those games it's mostly accepted that if someone else is in a spot you don't interfear. Although even then it means they should have gone to another delve, not you.

I'm glad ESO doesn't work that way, an MMO where you have to avoid other players always seemed like an oxymoron to me. I once did a free trial of a well known game where an hour or so in when I finally found someone else in the starter map I said hi and got "plz leave". I later found out that just by being in the area I could mess up their grinding because any enemies which hit me 'belonged' to me and they'd get no XP or loot from them. It wasn't the main reason I didn't buy the game, but it certainly didn't help.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but this game does actually work that way, which is why people default to bad manners and name calling when they feel someone is threatening their progress, rather than just quickly explaining it to the interloper. XP gets spread out among those present, and the more people present, the less xp each person is getting.

i usually just do a normal maelstrom arena, its instanced, trivial difficulty, and you can usually hit 250 kills by about arena 7 if you have been focusing on kills to satisfy the endeavor requirement (and side effect is a good way to work on that huge list of maelstrom normal set gear that only drops from last boss)

Had something similar a few weeks ago at an Alikir dolmen. Lots of people there as usual, and one person starts complaining that the pinions are being destroyed too quickly, and it was 'shortening their time to gain XP'. They thought that prolonging the fight would be a benefit.

It was quickly pointed out (in varying degrees of politeness) that dolmens don't work like that...

All get XP for kills if they do damage, however as overland mobs dies easy its very easy to miss out of kills more so if you don't have much ranged AoE.
Now if you are in an group you are correct, a group of 2 get more xp than solo, 3 I think is the same as solo and 4 is significantly less. I also guess that group dungeon mobs give less xp than overland.

However if you are after kills with weapons skills simply do some random normal on an sorcerer, or quest in High Island.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

It's such a bad mentality... people like that should play a solo game and do everyone a favour. OP, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation like that, ask them to form a group an kill two birds with one stone. Usually when there's a limited resource, grouping up is the best thing to do; for eg., when killing watchers in the deadlands for the new lead, I always asked to make groups, and it worked nicely, same with farming chests in the public dungeon--grouped up with someone and we alternate them. If they don't want to and they continue to be rude, block them, and do your thing, it's not an instanced area you can be there the same as everyone.

Yeah it's baffling how people can act like that. I've seen toxic chats in some grind spots. (This is why I like to use arenas like BRP/MA/DSA to grind out X kills dailies) One time I was minding my own business working on a kill livestock endeavor (don't remember the proper name of the daily) and was afk for a sec, only to come back and look at chat. Didn't reply to the name calling, killed a few more sheep and finished it, they still kept going on.

Just a tip to the OP - try finding a Public Dungeon instead - it goes a lot faster. Every group of mobs you find will be minimum 6 per group. I take this endeavour and the 250 weapon skills one as a chance to finish off my Stickerbook. Works nicely. :)

I wish we had the ability to change instances when this happens.

I had something similar happen a few weeks ago; also in the pursuit of completing a "killing" task for SoE.
I was running around, solo, in the Rift, in the area near the werewolf shrine (it was a day we had to kill a number of giants).
There were 3 or 4 of us, not grouped, all doing the same thing, and one guy whispered me out of the blue, and said...

    "Please stop."

    Umm, huh? Stop what?

"I don't want any people around; I want to do it by myself."

    ???? ...No.
This is an open world MMO. I have just as much right to be here as you do, bub. I'll leave when I'm ready to leave.

I would agree some people feel entitled. However, I do not see the point in putting them on an ignore list since it is not likely they will run into the game person again in such a manner. It also does not seem to have any real effect since the GF can still place people on the ignore list in your group.

So, in a different game I play, bosses drop very expensive loot and did not have instances back when this story is from. I am usually very polite and will change servers to look for an empty room, as to not "crash" anyone (steal their kills.)

I was feeling impatient and just decided to crash this guy. He was wearing budget gear and had no chance of out-DPSing me, so I got all the loot every kill, he just helped speed up my kills. He told me to leave, among some other vulgarities Here's how it went:

Him: Leave ya cuss cuss cuss!

I agree with you. in ESO, the different concepts in place all favorize an egoistic and competitive behavior of players for nearly everything, also in PvE.

Example: the simple fact that when someone harvest a resource, it's no more available for other players. It can seem a peanuts, but it has several sad consequences, out of which main one is a true toxicity between PvE players, that can badly escalate (depending on daily endeavors for example). And it's just about resources...

I don't say it's wrong or right. Just, like Danikat said, it favorizes a solo behavior of players for nearly everything, increasing the climate of competition between them. Just my personal opinion of course. o:)

You know the resource thing is done like this in most MMOs. Does not mean I like it, for example GW2 does the opposite - EVERYONE can harvest the exact same resources. Also, there you can actually SEE the animations for other players when they are harvesting which does not happen here which I think is weird. Yes it's probably to save computing resources yada yada but still seems silly to me.

Also, in GW2 (Guildwars 2 for anyone not in the know lol) they actually make a decent penny from this as they sell you gathering tools in their version of the Crown Store with cool animations. That's another opportunity that ESO lost because they did things differently.

Having said all that tho, it probably wouldn't work here - everyone gathering from the same resources because the bots would of course increase due to that and it would get out of hand VERY quickly sadly.

Except that's another kind of entitlement. They don't "own" the mobs or bosses, but neither do you. And if the argument is that being somewhere first somehow gives you (or the other player/s) "dibs" on the content, then ZOS might as well turn this into a single-player game, because it's going to be pretty much impossible to go anywhere "public" in the game and not have some other player/s who were there first.
