Yeah it happens. I was going to say MMOs don't work like that, then I remembered some actually do, unofficially at least. There are games where the prefered way to level up is to find and claim a 'grind spot' and just stay there killing stuff, and in those games it's mostly accepted that if someone else is in a spot you don't interfear. Although even then it means they should have gone to another delve, not you.
I'm glad ESO doesn't work that way, an MMO where you have to avoid other players always seemed like an oxymoron to me. I once did a free trial of a well known game where an hour or so in when I finally found someone else in the starter map I said hi and got "plz leave". I later found out that just by being in the area I could mess up their grinding because any enemies which hit me 'belonged' to me and they'd get no XP or loot from them. It wasn't the main reason I didn't buy the game, but it certainly didn't help.
All get XP for kills if they do damage, however as overland mobs dies easy its very easy to miss out of kills more so if you don't have much ranged AoE.Yeah it happens. I hate being the bearer of bad news, but this game does actually work that way, which is why people default to bad manners and name calling when they feel someone is threatening their progress, rather than just quickly explaining it to the interloper. XP gets spread out among those present, and the more people present, the less xp each person is getting.
Some people think they are somehow entitled to the mobs, happens in 'XP farming locations' as well, often with a lot more vitriol added

Yeah had the same issue in Eastmarch in one of the delves on PC....some dude sending me nasty tells because I was working a chest lock, I finished my turn he took his....then accused me of (and get this) "Ninja Looting" He just wouldn't stop so I blocked him....then he spends time jumping up and down around me. I wish we had the ability to change instances when this happens.
Seriously...things like this is happening mor and more I think we are getting refugees from other MMO;s with much more toxic communities....

I would agree some people feel entitled. However, I do not see the point in putting them on an ignore list since it is not likely they will run into the game person again in such a manner. It also does not seem to have any real effect since the GF can still place people on the ignore list in your group.
(XBOX)
This morning I logged in to quickly knock out the weekly endeavors, kill 250 opponents with class ability. I was running through one of the circle shaped delves and had been in there by myself for about 20 minutes, when another player entered. After about 5 more minutes I received a local message. The other player was asking if I would "please" move to another delve. Why? Because they wanted to knock out the weekly endeavor as quickly as possible!
Seriously!?!
A new player has been added to my block list.

LOL. Imagine getting angry at not getting an overland treasure chest. I really wanted those blue rubedite greaves!

I was feeling impatient and just decided to crash this guy. He was wearing budget gear and had no chance of out-DPSing me, so I got all the loot every kill, he just helped speed up my kills. He told me to leave, among some other vulgarities Here's how it went:
Him: Leave ya cuss cuss cuss!
Me: Only if you ask politely.
Him: Please?
Me: Please what?
Him: Please hop worlds.
Me: Say Pretty Please.
Him: Pretty please.
Me: Pretty please what?
Him: Pretty please hop worlds.
Me: Say pretty please with sprinkles on top.
Him: Pretty please with sprinkles on top hop worlds.
(This goes on for about 7 different toppings before...)
Me: Okay, now beg like an excited masochist.
Him: *logs out*
I wish I still had the screenshots from the event.

I agree with you. in ESO, the different concepts in place all favorize an egoistic and competitive behavior of players for nearly everything, also in PvE.
Example: the simple fact that when someone harvest a resource, it's no more available for other players. It can seem a peanuts, but it has several sad consequences, out of which main one is a true toxicity between PvE players, that can badly escalate (depending on daily endeavors for example). And it's just about resources...
I don't say it's wrong or right. Just, like Danikat said, it favorizes a solo behavior of players for nearly everything, increasing the climate of competition between them. Just my personal opinion of course.
Some people need to be told tho. Not in OP case because he was there first but it happens alot when you're grinding mobs and someone just comes there to leech. People don't realize that we get less xp then.
