Make up your mind mate, you keep defending these people and then you say its too much maintenance.

It is too much maintenance and this is starting to sound like sim city, obviously no one here gives a *** so may I suggest that we tell our nice experience to the press so they can listen to our complaints by other means.

There is not a single soul from this company bothering to come forward apologizing and explaining why they are doing all this maintenance.

    Moderator Edit: removed cursing.

I don't see a conflict there. I think the maintenance is too much. Having said that I still prefer it to the alternative of not releasing the game until end of year.

Not defending anyone - they certainly don't need me or anyone defending them. Just saying what I think, just like you do.

Right, so you don't think there is a direct link between early game release (not ready) and extreme amount of patching/maintenance? Lol

If you release something that is not ready its obvious you are going to have a lot of patching/maintenance.

A lot of people paid for early access, but I can't count the times I could not play in this period.

Well, I can, it was a total amount of 6 and a half hours during the 5 days of early access. A little more than 5%. The percentage hasn't changed much since the game has been officially released. Yes, it's slightly more this week, but I'm sure you know the meaning of "unexpected".
Today is the 3rd maintenance this week, again on an European holiday, same as last week. Other maintenances have been taken place on saturdays, friday afternoons and a lot during times people want to play just before work or school. In other words, not during usuable maintenance times.

There will always be people affected. Starting at 6am CEST ist among the best solutions possible, because the vast majority of European players at this time is either at school, at work or still sleeping.
I really love this game, there is a lot good to say about it, but there is no sence in a great game when you can't barely play it.

And this is the point where it gets ridiculous. Barely play? When the game is available at almost 95% of the time?
During an average week you spend about 40 to 60 hours with sleeping, which costs you far more playing time, yet I can't hear anyone complaining about this...

All of this "I want compensation" is getting sickening. Do you want compensation when you're sleeping and can't play the game? Is the world going to end because you can't play? It may be frustrating but stop asking for compensation. Is your life so empty that this all you have to look forward to? The rest of your complaint seems good enough but that word "compensation" is getting tiring.

Is your life so empty that you need to come here and troll other posts instead of doing, I don't know, something worthwhile? My remark is just as offensive as yours.

Welcome to ESO, the first ever made MMO Maintenance Simulator -game.

Just to clarify, I myself have encountered "game breaking" bugs in this game. The two of which were quickly remedied. I have had minor hiccups (NPCs not spawning, items being missing [In my case it was a bookshelf I needed for a quest], NPCs not being interactable, my horse kicking me off, stuck UI) but those are usually either solved by relogging or by a patch. I haven't had to wait too long to have my issues fixed. I know I am relatively lucky -- I have had no crashing or login issues, the authorization has given me zero trouble, I was not affected by the bank/gold glitch, no one in my guild/friends list duped, everyone could use their skills, so I know I am in the 1% here. However, I've seen first hand some of the "really bad bugs" that eventually got sorted out. Patches are a necessity, especially for an MMO. Things that are broken will get fixed. If you don't want to wait, that is well within your rights to do so -- Simply don't sub, or don't play the game for a while, whatever tickles your jimbobs. But patches need to happen. Whether you have a month's notice or two minutes notice... it's much better to fix the bugs than to ignore them entirely.

Yes I agree but the amount of patching/maintenance is ridiculous it is the same as a BETA and we were sold a finished product so they either credit us for the extra time that we could not play or reimburse us, simple.

When I am sleeping when MOST of the europeans are sleeping as well and that is when patching should occur on the european server (which is located in the US God knows why) and that's not happening it takes up to 7 hours from 4 am to 11 am on an almost a daily basis now.

The compensation is because we were sold a FINISHED product when in reality this a freaking PAID BETA.

That my char is only level 14 has not much to do with the maintenance situation, but my RL ;)

However, yesterday I was home and couldn't play so maybe I would be 15 now without it. :D

Right now I am chilling from last night, so I don't care about the server down :D

Still I felt they could have added the patch yesterday already or kept the server online and patch now, which they obviously still do.
If we look a bit further than ourselves then those downtimes can be a bit annoying especially for people in Russia & co. as more you go East as later it is now. Parts of Russia have prime now, it might be wise to give them and the Oceanic players an own server in future.

Most times it is - yesterday it wasn't because it was an emergency maintenance due to long loading times/inability for some to log in. It had to be fixed there and then else they would have had far more angry customers than those complaining about another maintenance.

But it's not effing fixed. It never is. All they seem to be doing is resetting the server to temporarily make whatever they seem unable to fix stop for a bit.

    Rinse and repeat.

Would you not prefer things actually get fixed as opposed to Zenimax not giving a rat's fart to the wind and not fixing anything at all? I swear, there's no pleasing gamers these days.

You know, what I would prefer is for games to be released in a good state from the start. That would please gamers.

If you have two options, which one do you choose?

1.) release game as they did, lots of bugs, lots of maintenance, but you can still play and enjoy
2.) release the game in november, hardly any bugs and only 2 weekly maintenance "in a good state game".

I would go for option 1 hands down.

Uuhhmmm....Option 2. I can't say I'm ever so super excited and impatient to play a game that I'd rather it come out earlier but with tons of bugs instead of later while providing a much smoother experience.

Don't get me wrong, my particular experience with ESO so far hasn't been nearly as bad as many of the people that come here to post on the Customer Service forum. Other than a few bugged quests and a ton of maintenance (which doesn't bother me in the least) my experience has actually been pretty smooth. I am enjoying ESO as it is right now.

However, major bugs and a shoddy experience can actually turn me off and push me away from a game much sooner than if it had come out in a better state. This is why I go for Option 2. When I do finally get to play a game I'd rather that experience be as good as possible instead of suffer the potential for a buggy experience pushing me away from the game I might otherwise enjoy.

    Youll never get option 2.

On a positive note, it looks as though the patch was applied to the NA server without any glitches so hopefully it goes smoothly for the EU.

Are there any American players that know how long the downtime was for the NA server so we might get a ballpark figure of how long this maintenance is likely to last? Time stamp on the NA server status update only says April 30th.

It starts at 5 am my time and was up when I attemped to log in at 8. I say try because my first two attempts failed and third was on a load screen from hell, fourth was unplayable lag so I helped a friend get a quest update and logged.

Issues happen. This game is still in its infant stages. Name one game that didn't have a rocky beginning.

I don't care if turning paying customers into unwitting beta testers has become industry practice. It's still sleazy. It's made even sleazier when the head honcho was banging on about wanting to deliver the smoothest launch experience ever, but delivered instead a game with bugs/issues that were pointed out in August, let alone January, February and March unfixed.

It should not have been released until the phasing issues identified in the later tests had been fixed and it should not have been released until the server technology actually was proven it could cope.

It's a short-sighted and ultimately self-defeating business model. i'm a big fan of this game but at this point I'm coming to think ZMO are hell bent on doing whatever it takes to trigger an FTP relaunch in 6 months time.

No, I dont expect compensation when I sleep, Like I dont expect to get paid when I am not at work but when I am paying for 30 days included game time all the lost hours so far this week alone with the potential for more tomorrow with the "planned" maintenance then I, and the others here, have the right to be annoyed.

Now, Im sure I will get the "do you want the bugs fixed or not?" comments, Yes. I do. I want them fixed before they release the game, I thought that's what beta was for. I am old fashioned like that. The Guild Store search? seriously guys? The whole beta and almost a month of live play and you still cant fix this?

For me personally its not so much the maintenance but the sheer lack of communication and the obvious lack of regard for their customers.

I am not expecting a weeks free play time, I dont think even a days free time would make that much difference to me to be honest but a statement from someone high up apologising and explaining would go a long way, not just an "unforseen problems". If I am at work beind paid to do a job and my client came back and I just said "sorry, couldnt do it, Not going to tell you why, Can I have my wages for the last 6 hours please?" I wouldnt last very long. Sadly, if things don't change quickly I cant see ESO lasting very long either, Especially with WoD (3rd/4th quarter) and Wildstar (Early June) both out in the coming months.

The other day when we had 6.5 hours downtime for the phantom patch a thread complaining about it was closed, I asked why the thread was closed as it didnt break any rules and guess what... closed, It just seems like they feel they can treat paying customers however they like.

Would you have preferred ZOS to wait until the hardware had completely broken down (while playing with major lags and such), possibly resulting in an even longer downtime at a far less convenient moment?

I would actually choose option 2, because that's what I expect from a game. Especially an online game where you pay for the time you play. If you pre-ordered they can let you in on the beta, but once the game goes gold, it's supposed to be working properly. That's what I would prefer.

I would go for option 2.5 ;) Release the game in november with hardly and bugs and 1 weekly maintenance, If other games can do it then they can.

Ty very much Zenimax i just unsuscribe from your game just in time so i don't get billed for the second month. You should consider working on your costumer support and try to let player play a game that they pay 60$ Are you going to be the next SWTOR and go free to play in a couple of month.I think so.

I think that was their plan from day one tbh, thats why they are showing zero concern about losing players cos when the game goes free 2 play and the ingame store opens one vanity item or level 50 boost will cost the same as a months subscription and people will always pay 2 win.

Giving a few extra free days to make up for all the maintenance time is not a big deal really, and is good customer service to boot. It's service like that which will placate angry customers and keep people subbed.

I'd also like to comment on what someone else said: that the servers are down only 5% of the time. That may be the case, but here in Australia the scheduled maintenance at least is during the afternoons/evenings. So between the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, those who work regular hours and play in the evenings are actually missing out on many days of play.

Frankly, I would have preferred them to patch during the night, rather than during the day. And yes, early morning is daytime.

I don't think anyone is questioning the need for maintenance. The issue is timing, and communication.

Even then there would have been people complaining. Surprise: 2am in the UK doesn't mean it's 2 am all over the world...

Um... true there are time zones. But since the EU release is localised in French, German and English, and they are one hour apart, the problem isn't as severe as you're making out. While I'm not saying the needs of other countries should be ignored, those which actually have a localization should obviously be prioritised.

And Europe as a whole has only three time zones, unless you include Russia and Iraq in 'Europe'. So the problem still isn't as big as you're making out. It's currently 9:50 in Turkey, and 7:50 in Britain.

    THIS IS GETTING RIDDICULUS
when i try play in the morning (asuming there is no maintance) it sgreat low server population and many craftng materials to take

but sadly there is maintance all the time

then after the maintence wheni can play all server is zerged with ppl and to do something alone or with very low amount of ppl is impossible

but also i unnderstand this is an mmo game where there is alot of ppl but what i dont understand is this:

    - regardles of server population the respawn of crafting materials is the same making finding them almost impossible after 4PM Polish time( GMT warsaw sarajewo time) and insted of making the material respown adjusted to amount of players logged in its always the same

    - the same goes for NPC fos quests sometimes ihave to wait wait and wait... and then wait some more to be able to talk, or tok ill or to do whatever else quests requires me to do
    - and yet wheni choose to play in the morning i simply cant cos its maintance after maintance

basicly im getting tired of it and i think best solution to endless dayly miantence isto move it when servers arnt so muh ocupied orwanted acces

so basivcly i suggest moving the maintance time from 6 AM - 12AM(noon) to somewhere between 1:00 AM - 8:00 AM (warsaw sarajewo GMT time) i can bet the time diffrence for other european countries will be also a good idea and i know that could *** some players but in total i think most of server population will benefit from it

also i noticed i am not alone in hating quantity of players in some areas while im trying to play pve content.

also i am not a bi fan for pvp and i think i wont play the pvp in this game, but i wishto explore all pve content there is and cos of the server is overcrowded is extremly hard to do it

so i suggest to add CHANNELS into the game
    - their job would be to make it easier for questing and by typing /changechannel+ we would go up 1 channel leaving current channel and maybe switching to one less ocupied which im sure many players would apprecite...

    - or alse they cound make a server split thing(one machine,2 servers) 1stserver would be pve and second would be pvp, and on the pve server all fights between players would be disabvled allowing to explorers or pve players be at peace in cyrodil cos i can bet if some1 is exploring pve content of cyrodil he can be attacked by player from other faction which isnt fair to those who dont wish to fight
    - or by making "pvp" button which will allow toenter pvp mode but while pv would be dissabled that player would be safe from ganked attacks

    nd one last thing

i understand maintence fixing and stuff
but soon i can bet itl be 99% maintance time and 1% play time
some times i feel like they made this game not for us able to play but for them being able to scratch the code everyday just for fun scrubbing in the game code:D like it would make them orgasmic or something...

This amount of maintenance is how much FREE TO PLAY games usually have.

And just the same, players complain in the forums.

However, looking at the quality of all the previous Elder Scrolls, even with the minor bugs, I am a little disheartened with the current state of affairs.

Eventually my complaint will be read, scoffed by a fanboy, or considered by another who is irked just the same.

IN THE END... People will choose how much they can handle... is enough enough? When you are paying for a service, and you can't use it, even if you agree that you are not required compensation, it is just the RIGHT thing to give it.

When the month is up... if ZENIMAX is greedy, and they don't give some sort of compensation, I feel a lot of people will wipe their hands of the MMO.

If they held an EVENT where the players hunted down the BOTTERS and there were thousands of GM's online to ban them... then THAT Would be fun.

How many copies of the game did you sell?
How many GM's do you have ?
You should have a GM channel.
Learn from Knightonline, Diablo 2, Runes of Magic. They had great ways of dealing with hackers cheaters and botters.

ALL IT TOOK WAS PUTTING A PERSON THERE TO WATCH OR LISTEN.
100 GM accounts can't be that hard to get going.
Then 5-10 SUPER GM's to watch the GM's

    GOOD luck.
