Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

another maintanance

harvester100b16_ESO
seriously 3 days in a row at least ive lost count I assumed yesterday was maintenance brought forward from the delay can I ask do we also get the scheduled one tomorrow to make it close to a week with constant outage.

I have been one of your biggest advocates defending the game many times but you are wearing me down its like a slow steady battering until I break.

I know downtime is needed but we get no advance warning except 15 mins the scheduled days aren't adheared to and we have no communication as to why it happens until well after the servers are down.

Communicate guys is that so damn hard to do

We should at least get a decent amount of compensation for all the down time telling us we will get this may dampen the flames as I can see on these and other forums even the most patient are beginning to revolt

Every morning I've tried to play now I've been faced with a maintenance. This is getting ridiculous to be honest. I understand things needs to be fixed, but are they SO bad you have to cut down playtime this much?

Can't you make the maintenances you have planned larger ones instead and atleast let us play a bit? I'm using the days I got with the game still, but I'm beginning to think you should really add back the hours to our gametimes for every maintenance that goes above what is normal.

I used to think it was fine, but now I'm really getting fed up with these constant maintenances...

I adhere to Harvesters comment! its the lack of warning that really gets me too!
yesterdays (unscheduled) we only got 2 min warning.
Any comment from customer support would be nice!
Great game, pity about the customer support and communication!
Perhaps an email to the CEO would help? if I find the address I'll post it guys.

I totally agree with you Harvester. True, maintenances are needed, especially in new games, but this is too much. A lot of people paid for early access, but I can't count the times I could not play in this period. Today is the 3rd maintenance this week, again on an European holiday, same as last week. Other maintenances have been taken place on saturdays, friday afternoons and a lot during times people want to play just before work or school. In other words, not during usuable maintenance times.

I really love this game, there is a lot good to say about it, but there is no sence in a great game when you can't barely play it.
  • virreab16_ESO
Applying a patch on a none regular maintenance day. What the hell are they thinking. This is beyond a joke if you ask me.
I ll bet its going down on a friday as well and they call it normal maintenance.
    What a ***.

This is definitely too much. Third day in a row, I can't play before work. And I bet tomorrow will be the same with the scheduled maintenance. This is definitely getting too much. Very disappointed here :(

All of this "I want compensation" is getting sickening. Do you want compensation when you're sleeping and can't play the game? Is the world going to end because you can't play? It may be frustrating but stop asking for compensation. Is your life so empty that this all you have to look forward to? The rest of your complaint seems good enough but that word "compensation" is getting tiring.
  • harvester100b16_ESO
nope you will have to download the game again as it installs it differently but there are no restricitons to having 16 characters potentially 8 on each server

    This mornings maintenance has been posted for a while if you check in Server Status section;
    ESO MAINTENANCE FOR PATCH V1.0.6

    ZOS_GinaBrunoZOS_GinaBruno Administrator, Moderator admin
April 29 edited 6:07AM in Server Status Staff Post
    Hello, everyone!

We will be performing maintenance on the North American and European megaservers starting tomorrow, April 30th, to deploy patch v1.0.6.
The North American megaserver will be brought down at 6:00am EDT / 11:00am BST on Wednesday, April 30th.
The European megaserver will be brought down at 5:00am BST / 6:00am CEST on Thursday, May 1st.

We expect each maintenance to last a few hours, and will let you know when the server is offline, and once the maintenance is complete. The patch notes for v1.0.6 are already available for you to view here.
    source
Yesterdays was an unscheduled downtime to fix some issue and Tuesday was scheduled maintenance when patch 1.0.6 was supposed to be added but they had issues.

There are bound to be unscheduled maintenance for the initial period and no different from most games. Better to have regular fixes and patches than waiting for scheduled days IMO.

@thorntongue completely agree. Nobody *really* wants compensation though, it's just a big serious word and kids like to throw it around :)

But also, in my own *sad* life getting in a few hours of play before heading off to work is actually something I really do look forward to. Not everyone can play 24/7, or evenings, or all evenings...

Exactly, the scheduled maintenances are fine, and you can plan when you can play around that, but there are now so many unscheduled maintenances so you can't even do that.

I am personally not asking for compensation, I'm asking to play the hours I've been given when I bought the game. Almost every morning I've been trying to play I simply haven't been able to because the server has been down for maintenance on days they're not supposed to. I can accept an off extra maintenance here and there, but it's too much now.

I can't play the same hours as most folks, and that's fine, but they're even taking away the hours I CAN play now thanks to all these extra maintenances.

don't get me wrong I'd much prefer to be able to play the game and I am the first to admit and have even posted on the subject an mmo is always a work in progress. the problem I have is the lack of communication not confusing maintenance schedules that change daily and even Zen have stated they intend to notify us of any maintenance the day before ...this isn't happening

So yes compensation is something I believe we all deserve we may not need/want it but deserve it yes we do I don't care if its extra game time a silly in game pet to say sorry or pink pony jumping a rainbow but when you pay to play an mmo you expect as with anything in life to get your moneys worth.

most mmo's have 1 maintenance per week as its a new game I can handle 2 per week but 4 or 5 that's pushing the bounderies of fairness in my opinion

Really, you only have two options. You suffer through unscheduled maintenance *so they can fix things*, or you simply don't sub and find another game that suits your playing needs. In the EULA you agreed to, you happily agreed that the game would not be available to you 24/7. Maintenance happens, emergency and otherwise.

Would you not prefer things actually get fixed as opposed to Zenimax not giving a rat's fart to the wind and not fixing anything at all? I swear, there's no pleasing gamers these days.

Ty very much Zenimax i just unsuscribe from your game just in time so i don't get billed for the second month. You should consider working on your costumer support and try to let player play a game that they pay 60$ Are you going to be the next SWTOR and go free to play in a couple of month.I think so.

4 days maintenance and ignoring holidays is not the real problem because we have clicked "Accept" and this includes unexpected down times. But the way how Zenimax is using every chance without professional planning and how they communicate to customers is not acceptable any longer.

If you have two options, which one do you choose?

1.) release game as they did, lots of bugs, lots of maintenance, but you can still play and enjoy
2.) release the game in november, hardly any bugs and only 2 weekly maintenance "in a good state game".

I would go for option 1 hands down.

Most times it is - yesterday it wasn't because it was an emergency maintenance due to long loading times/inability for some to log in. It had to be fixed there and then else they would have had far more angry customers than those complaining about another maintenance.

Todays has been posted since Tuesday but the title is unfortunate as it wasn't informative I feel. Most people checking for maintenance on the server status threads would have skipped it as they would have assumed it was patch note info.

So, Tuesday was normal, but failed
Yesterday an emergency so they weren't able to forewarn
Today was planned but the title of the thread not descriptive
Tomorrow...will there be maintenance tomorrow? I bet there will after recent last time we were told scheduled maintenance wouldn't be run and it was.

Having said that, NA got yesterday instead of today (their normal scheduled maintenance) so maybe, just maybe, they'll skip tomorrow for us.

I am like Elirienne - my main time is early morning before work as I don't always get time after work to play - so this hits me quite hard. I've delayed downloading the NA game but I am now going to do that later so that I can get my fix when EU goes down

Back in the day when games like Monkey Island or Doom were released, it was really hard to patch a game. I mean, really hard. I'm not sure if you were around for those days, but games came on floppy discs, usually quite a bunch of them (Like in the case of Kings Quest/Space Quest/Generally any Sierra game.) So, games had to be made right the first time.

Also, games were a lot smaller and less intensive. Back in those days, an MMO would have been absurd outside the realm of ZORK-like text based MOOS and MUDS. Generally you got pretty fancy if games had ASCII art.

But technology usually outdoes itself what, every year? So, we have the ability to play games like ESO. They're a lot more complicated than Kings Quest V (Good game, btw), and we have the internet which allows easy patching. This unfortunately tends to make a "Sub par" (In relation to older games I have mentioned) game, but the fancy thing is, it can be fixed. Patches are awesome. They're easy to push, they generally don't require too many resources, they're cheap to produce so you can produce them more often, and with bigger teams working with games like ESO, you can generally get the big kinks worked out beforehand.

Unfortunately, however, we don't live in Utopia. Not everything produced by any standard will be perfect. If you think you can make a perfect, bug and trouble free MMO, go ahead and make it. I'll subscribe ASAP!

But patches are the nature of the beast. You can't make a "perfect" game and even back in the "old days", games weren't perfect. You could release patches back in those days, but it required not only a physical product, but shipping it out to whomever needed it. I'd say today's system is ultimately a lot better. We get a more technologically advanced product that has the ability to solve any bug or hiccup along the way relatively quickly.

Issues happen. This game is still in its infant stages. Name one game that didn't have a rocky beginning.

I would actually choose option 2, because that's what I expect from a game. Especially an online game where you pay for the time you play. If you pre-ordered they can let you in on the beta, but once the game goes gold, it's supposed to be working properly. That's what I would prefer.
