Are we getting a new race with High Isle or was that all speculation early on?

I've never heard anything about a new Race coming with High Isle. There are new mob races like the Fauns, but there are was never anything to indicate or hint that a new playable Race is coming, if that's what you mean.

I hope we get a lot of new races in the future, especially beast races.

I could swear back in the begging there was talk of a fish folk. Oh Well. Maybe I dreamed it.

There was a lot of random speculation about a lot of things based on absolutely nothing, yes. And among that speculation there were some people talking about Maormer as a playable race. But there was no basis for it beyond "new chapter must have new feature, chapter involves the sea, maybe we have sea related thing."

Yep, along with sailable ships, massive sea battles among navies, huge pirate enterprises, jousting....

Yeah. Not happening. Right now, ZOS is "re-architecting" backend code - and for the rest of the year (and perhaps the foreseeable future) there won't be any "major new systems" which includes new races (don't need any anyway), new classes (ditto), etc. Maybe next year we'll see some new skill lines - but considering the amount of work, don't expect new weapon lines....

This year's new things: 1 - an area never before seen in a TES game (the Systres, High Isle and Amenos); 2 - a card game.

Speak for yourself about not needing any new classes.
I'm bored of the same classes and I bet im not the only one.

New skilline would be trash. Would use one or two skills tops just like with psijic guild for example.

So yea, no new class needed for you perhaps. :>

As PeacefulAnarchy said, that sounds like people probably going "sEa!" and hoping Maormer would be released as a playable race. I do vaguely remember now people thinking Maormer might be coming as a playable Race, but I honestly doubt ESO would add any Races beyond the ten we have. The only way I can see it happening is if TES6 or adds any new ones. Even then they might not make it to ESO.

We already have all the traditional TES races, there shouldn't be more. Adding too many 'non boring varied' races would just make the game lose the Elder Scrolls vibe and turn it into one of those games where everything is half human half cute animal, please no. :D

Maomer are cool, but not suitable as a full blown playable race as they are kill on sight in most of Tamriel.

The new chapter has been available for purchase for so long. If there were a new playable race like Maormer (which a lot of people wish for) then that would have been heralded as a big highlight and major incentive to buy.

It's always speculation and wishful thinking. Much more likely to get a new Class and even that is rare. Even then, what would that Race be? You'd have to justify it being playable since there'd be thousands of us running around in the world. All of the common Races are already tapped. Only logical thing to do at this point is to create Sub-Races.

Earlier on the development cycle I could have sworn that we were getting a Maormer race as part of High Isle but it turns out that was just a powerful Mandela Effect playing tricks on my mind.

I have lost all faith in these supposed performance improvements. The last time they did a "year of performance fixes", ZOS, by some miracle, managed to make things even worse.
A cynical man would say that these backend changes are simply an excuse for ZOS to sit back milk the community with reskinned crown crate mounts, while investing absolutely nothing back into the game.
Maybe that isn't entirely fair. But I am fairly certain that their backend work simply means that we will get neither performance improvements nor impressive new content.

We really already have that in the lore with the Bretons who are half Direnni Elf and Half Nede. I doubt we'd get the opportunity in ESO to make other types of hybrids due to balancing and lore issues. Can you imagine the horror show a hybrid Argonian and Khajiit would look like?

    :)

The game over all can barely run at this point performance issues all around PvP in Cyrodill for all intent and purposes is dead both by the community of that group and performance issues, Kinda sad that the Launcher crashes when trying to update anything now days, failed promises all around, lack of content.
Don't get me wrong focus on fixing the game but at the same time realize why the game performance is bad address it and instead of promising to fix it actually fix it. As for content doing the same thing over a hundred times doesn't count as new content at all, that is old content with a new skin not very impressive.
Sad when most the community find your older expansions like Morrowwind for example as better content than anything else the company has released lately Summer set was a mix bag so was Greymoor that a catastrophe of a launch players who bought it didn't get access to it those that didn't got access and on top of that most the ones that did buy it before had to buy it again.
What the company in my opinion needs is good leadership that isnt afraid of challenge or investing back into the game itself getting new server equipment better game engine better staff actually show that the game is worth that ESO monthly charge other than expanded slots a a bit of crowns that is sad when i spend the same amount of crowns dollar wise and get more crowns than what you monthly charge gives for free ohh and don't forget the Craft bag that isn't really impressive.
Also the Bank in game is very well un player friendly i shouldn't have to worry about running out of slots at any point in the game it is a bank i should store everything in the game easily in it, that's like you going to a bank to put your money in it and the bank says sorry we only allow 50 dollars if you want to store more you have to buy this bank expansion program for 100 store dollars in your account that you cant store to expand to 54 dollars, come on already open the bank up and let us have an actual bank with no slot count.
This is just a few issues and problems the community is having right now yet the failed wait i should say constant failed promises of performance fixes is what they get harped on about.

I really don't think that another race is what is going to make or break performance.

All it is is a new character skin (assuming here that it uses the general humanoid skeleton and rigging) and some different stat entries into the database table.

I think by sub-races they mean things like Reachfolk for bretons, different furstocks of khajiit, the more unique looking argonians etc. Not half-breeds, which work quite different in Elder Scrolls.
