Maintenance for the week of November 25:
• [COMPLETE] Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for maintenance – November 27, 6:00AM EST (11:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)
• [COMPLETE] PlayStation®: NA and EU megaservers for maintenance – November 27, 6:00AM EST (11:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)

This sounds.... worrying

    So would I....

It's a while ago now, but it was somewhere around this area:

    9qpwduick6g2.png

If I recall correctly, I was running to the Fishing Dock to unlock it from Arenthia and the game just crashed me out completely and I couldn't log in again without the game crashing every time on that character after character select. I remember googling it at the time and seeing other people in the past that had had the issue at that area too and to lodge a ticket to get my character moved.

I feel like you might need to hit exactly the right spot and then the game goes NO. Luckily you didn't! It was annoying because I was having a lovely time on my old main speedrunning the alliance questlines and it put the brakes on that (I have done the base game properly on my "new" main) and also because the first person who replied to my ticket was like "I have moved your character" but actually didn't.

Ouch. At least mine DID get actually moved!

Eh, since it's supposed to be set in post-apoc Utah, I'll give it a chance.

There may be rare instances where you could get booted from the game with Error 326 and unable to log back into that character. If you run into this issue, please submit a ticket at account.elderscrollsonline.com.

Gina put up a warning notice about tomorrow's console patch... which in itself is a first to my knowledge.

Most of it sounds trivial but this bit about getting booted and having to submit tickets to get back in? A guildy pointed out she says it will be rare but in my experience from previous patch notes they use that word rather liberally.

And in my experience having support reset a stuck character takes around 24 hours.

A lot of us politely asked that this update be postponed until they could have some degree of confidence it was up to standard. This seems to indicate it isnt.

I've literally had this happen in the base game before, you just submit a ticket and they move your character. There's an area in Reaper's March that boots and locks out your character.

They're never going to postpone patches, we already know this.

At least this time they've actually told us what the high level issues are going to be instead of pretending the patch is totally fine!!!!!!! and letting us find out that every single major issue that was present in the PC patch that they already knew about hasn't actually been fixed, they just didn't bother to tell us that these issues existed.

@renne where is that in reaper’s March? I want to avoid it.

I just posted where. I don't recall EXACTLY where I was because it was last year some time, but it was somewhere around that screenshot. I remember being clenched up very tightly as I approached the Fishing Dock from the other side after they moved me since I hadn't discovered it before I crashed. :D

    Thank you @renne and @Destai

For the PC folks in here who have mentioned having their characters locked out, do you recall where and the circumstances? Has any kind of pattern emerged in when and how this happens? Is anyone cataloging this information in one compiled bug thread somewhere?

Honestly, it's very disappointing to see I literally have to be afraid of playing my main for fear she'll get locked somewhere, say, the day of my guild auction or, worse, mid-auction and then I have to wait however many hours/days for support to unlock me, only to not know when and how soon she'll be locked again. I don't have the luxury of simply not logging in until it's fixed. I have to play Russian roulette now, I guess.

I haven't logged in since then - and it might be wise to wait - even I won't get the 2nd alliance point gift this month due to that. I'm not going to Cyrodiil, so the alliance point gift is my access to vigor - it is bad that I won't get it this month, but I wouldn't get it either, if I would get stuck and unable to login due to this bug - so better safe than sorry, I guess.

If you're avoiding Cyrodiil because you don't want to PVP for AP, you can just do the intro quest where you learn about siege equipment. It will give enough AP to get to rank 3, which will unlock both Vigor and Continuous Attack (with Major Gallop that gives 30% mount speed) without doing any PVP. Depending on which base you zone into, you may need to go to the other one to find the quest giver.

The first one was running back into the Vivec crafting area after dropping off daily writs. The second one was running between Verrant Morass wayshrine and Serpent's Grotto wayshrine to pick up that wayshrine (not yet discovered) and dig an antiquity in the area of Rulanyil's Fall dungeon.

It does seem like they don't care, since ZOS won't give any information as to why some characters are being locked and others aren't. Surely they have some inkling as to what it is. Companions? Having too many quests in your journal or pending antiquities? The character name has an umlaut? They are using a crown store item? Nothing, just....ooop, it might happen! 😁

I also have a bad experience because the last time a ghost feared me out of bounds, it took support over a week to get my main unlocked. With numerous "we moved your character" responses that never actually moved my character, to them moving the wrong characters even though the name was clearly stated many times in the email.

Hey everyone, just wanted to hop in here and clarify a couple things. We're planning on running a few things on the backend during today's console maintenance to try and ensure this doesn't happen very frequently until we can get a proper fix into a future patch. We did something similar for PC shortly after launch that appeared to help and re-did them yesterday afternoon after the PC incremental, hence why some PC players may have seen an uptick in this issue after the patch went out.

I suspected as much. The warning to consoles users popped up right when PC maint was over, and the error 326 (mentioned therein) didnt really start becoming a big problem on PC until after yesterdays PC maint. It all makes sense now. Thanks for shedding a little light here.

Thanks for the advice - there are just 2 characters of mine which have no vigor yet (both don't need it really, it is just by completion reasons, that I want it for them as well) - so I will most likely complete that with the next few monthly gifts. I don't need more mount speed, they are fast enough fully trained for my purposes - I role play and my mount is an animal, not a machine, so I won't rush it outside of an emergency.

Its worth noting that the entirely PVP-less tutorial in cyrodiil is grants enough AP and alliance rank for you to simply purchase it and it takes about 5 minutes. You dont even have to enter a zone where PVP is even possible.

Fundamentally, why is something being launched with such issues in the first place, Gina? That's the issue here. Just wait a few weeks, get the kinks worked out, and then launch.

Aren't you guys tired of the cycle yet? Problematic patches creating technical debt and an upset community. Looks like I'll buy High Isle when it's on sale.

    Quoted post has been removed.

It is time which is eventually paid for with subscription - so the damage is not just, that one cannot play, but if it takes 6 weeks for example, that is about 20 dollars paid without to get something in return for it - and ZOS is not likely to just add 6 weeks to our subscription time.

I don't think anyone's expecting immediate turn around. It's a poor decision to launch a product with large issues and ignored PTS feedback - weeks after the Studio Director had to yet again apologize. It does nothing but create technical debt, which in turn creates loads more tickets and subsequent delays in issue resolution. All for saving 6 weeks.

IF people cannot roll ESO for 'weeks' (which is not likely at all, that's just someone trying to start some sort of mass hysteria) ) then they would do something to compensate.

Not everything goes 100% they way we want it....gaming world as well as RL.

They are still working on it as they have extended the maintenance. You, me and everyone that is not playing......is not ideal for the company, as well as the investors, to an extent.......so, the team are not out having champagne coolers atm living the dream life while we 'suffer'.

This guy still thinks we are talking about the generally bugginess of the update and not the fact that there is literally a bug going aroud that will stop you from playing and lock your character until you go through the potentially account-destroying process of opening a customer support ticket for account modification.

I just wonder why they don't do what other companies do in such a case, where they have no clue how long it might take to fix that bug - it puts a lot of stress on the support crew and makes players discontent - why not just roll back to update 32 - we can wait for a few hours to get this done - and then we could play and ZOS could figure out where the problem is without to cripple the live game with it.

you’d think they’d do something like this, but honestly 8? years down the line and not once have any of us seen an update that didn’t have a core part of the game totally ruined for a time before they manage to get out an incremental. Combat problems, account problems, being so unstable and unreliable it’s basically unplayable - can’t say i’m surprised at this point and that’s pretty sad considering how much we’ve all collectively sunk into this game.. Time and money wise. Just another broken patch, absolutely nothing new here.

The merchant bug fix IIRC took over 3 months (can't remember if it was fixed in July or September) to fix last year, so I don't think it's entirely fearmongering. I just don't think it's acceptable to launch a product with a bug that has an indeterminate resolution window (POV bug Gina mentioned) or account-damaging bugs. I mean these are basic, core systems and people have to worry about them breaking?

I'm a little miffed because I finally managed to sell someone on this game, my gf, and now I have to tell her things are breaking again.
