Camera Issue, Update 33

Diora

The camera is instantly swapping to first person whenever anything is "behind" my character/the camera, including background things like NPCs, light poles, walls, low walls, etc. I cannot zoom out or go back to 3rd person view while this is happening. It's especially noticeable inside buildings, but also happens outside. Here's a video showing the bug where I run around Rawl'kha. I ca't find any settings that fix this, and it is not being caused by an addon (tested with all addons off)

I experienced this issue a lot during the Skeevaton Phase in Frost Vault. It went back and forth constantly to first person, it gave me and my friend really bad motion sickness.. Don't even want to think about doing HM there anymore.

I played with controller on PC & to me I'm not noticing this bad camera issue, could it be only happening to keyboard+mouse users perhaps? Actually when going through a door, or how near to a few objects & determine the camera angle it sometimes goes in fpv, though this something I been noticing a few times years before this update. But yeah, what shown in the above video is bad.

Here's my somewhat recreation of the video above (ignore the few frame skipping) with a controller & you notice it isn't happening bad to me:

The siblings were separated at a young age due to a Dres slaver raid, Blue, Cobalt, Ros-Ei & their mother were able to escape, Crimson & Bone weren't that lucky. Crimson was later "rescued" by some Orcs that later ambushed the House Dres Dunmers, unfortunately one Dunmer remained & sadly successfully brought the young Bone-Thuxis to the Dres plantation. Later an Imperial, a Tharn, bought Bone at a auction & later told he was free, the young Argonian sadly had no idea where to go & doesn't know if his family was still alive, so the Tharn adopted him into House Tharn. This family of Argonians finally reunited years later.

no, i play almost exclusively with controller and its happening to me as well, i've not touched my camera settings in ages, because i've not needed to unless i create a new character and i always change them to the same settings. i haven't made a new character in recent memory or touched anything that has to do with the camera that could potentially cause this issue, and yet i'm encountering this issue now. regardless of whether i have addons installed or not, disabled, or removed entirely, i even deleted my user settings file to reacquire it and had to go through agreeing to all the tos stuff again to see if that would fix it, it was a no go. any time the camera in the background clips with a wall, it immediately just swaps to first person instead of zooming in along the plane of the wall like it normally would - and this wasn't an issue until the latest patch for me.
Whatever it is, I want it painted black.
  • BlackRoseWaltz
side note a few of my friends have also been saying they *aren't* having this issue, while others are, none of us can figure out why.
Whatever it is, I want it painted black.

it also doesn't seem to be exclusive to any particular ui setting either, gamepad mode or mouse and keyboard. both ui settings have the camera issue, at least from my experience, which deviates from the norm i'm used to of the camera just zooming in whenever it hits a wall or something. was a good way to zoom in a little closer than the closest you can get normally without going into first person to really nitpick over details XD. unfortunately i can't do that now and its really disorienting in certain places like tight winding corridors and small buildings with objects inside with collision.

@NeroRavenheart Ah thanks telling me this, so it's happening to controller users as well. I hope they fix it.

Every character i have experiences this issue. I use all classes, all races, stam/mag,no addons, pc/na.i do notice it seems to happen more often on a tank character. Also i found it happens in dungeons and smaller spaces. For example, i kited a few dungeon bosses to the center of a room and it happens less frequently. Clipping/collision issue?

Yes I submitted a bug report while on PTS last week about this..

I tested with my main's copy on the first week of PTS, then again with a fresh character on the third week. Exact same camera settings as LIVE.

    My settings are

    Sens: 35
    FOV: 70
    Horizontal Alignment1: -100
    Horizontal Alignment2: 100
    Height: 60

I've tried changing all these, to no effect.

I play in third Person view.

On live last week, the behaviour on the camera was normal as I am used to it for the past 3 years. When camera collides with objects behind me, it moves it closer to me by following the contours of that object.

The "following of the contours" of objects behind me no longer works. (Smoothing) perhaps? (it's set to ON)

While on PTS, it was happening to me if I zoomed BETWEEN 7 notches away from "Automatic First Person" mode up to 1 notch away. (Closest you can get it to zoom to your character before it switches to first person mode as of last week on Live)

Exactly what the video from Diora above shows.

I can't play like this. I will be back when it's fixed. Sorry :(

That's a very small amount of people so far and this fact gives me anxiety.
    That's it, that's all.

I had the same issue on many of my characters. I posted in another thread what I have done to fix the issue (worked for me).

Here is an out of date Addon I found that fixed the problem on my PC without adjusting the Addon at all.

i can can ditto confirm this, its not exclusive to a particular character, it seems account wide, and it doesn't matter if you log out and log back in, clear/alter/delete the user settings file, have addons installed, activated, not activated, deleted entirely, whether in controller ui, or mouse and keyboard ui, or have it set to automatic, tried p much everything short of verifying my files and/or reinstalling the game entirely - and creating a new character, but i'm p sure it will happen there anyway as well...
    its annoying.

Having this issue too, would be nice if it gets fixed faster than the Night's Silence bug. Atm the game is unplayable for me because of these camera issues.

Of the many bugs they gave us in this patch, the camera bug is one of the most annoying.

I was able to "fix" it by zooming my camera in. Hopefully they get a real fix for it soon, or at least by the time they get the dungeon finder to work again...

I've been having this issue but my friends haven't. We compared settings and my friend managed to duplicate this issue by changing his Camera (Third Person) settings to:

    Field of View: 130
    Horizontal Position: 0
    Horizontal Offset: 0
    Vertical Offset: -60

To demonstrate, zoom the camera to about 1/2 way between fully in (first person) and fully out.
Then, walk a couple meters away from a lamppost or something and slowly pan the camera until the lamppost starts to intrude upon your view. The view will snap instantly to first-person.

I did say that I always set my camera settings to a different setting than default due to having a preference for my character to be front and center when I'm playing, if only slightly to the side so that I can see what I'm interacting with, and because of that I also have to increase my field of view so it doesn't look so cramped. I don't think it has anything to do with specific numbers, because my camera settings numberwise are completely different than all of this, and I am getting the bug - also changing them back to default doesn't fix any of it, so it doesn't seem to be a setting for specific camera angles, as that was one of the things I checked when I was first dealing with this issue - I suspected it had something to do with my personal settings for the camera (which I haven't touched since I set them and its been fine for years before update 33) but I guess it would explain why some aren't getting it - some people don't mess with those settings, even though I personally find that strange, but who am I to say? lol.
Whatever it is, I want it painted black.
  • BlackRoseWaltz
Aaaand i just conversed with a friend who hasn't encountered the issue and they did indeed confirm that they never touch the default camera settings. i'm assuming all the people who don't have this problem also never touch the camera settings at all, whatsoever. so clearly its only happening to those of us who use custom camera settings - thing is i've been doing so for years now and its never been a problem until now - so it shouldn't even *be* an issue... yet here we are. hecking heck.
Whatever it is, I want it painted black.
  • BlackRoseWaltz
Just a bit of an update, its still happening to me, but I can confirm it doesn't happen when mounted, like @ray75228 said, which I wasn't certain of before. tbh the problem is not too bad when doing mundane things like picking up crafting writs in town, as you're not in combat in the middle of a tight corridor dungeon or anything, but until this problem is fixed, I kind of can't do anything more than town things and crafting maybe. Its... rather annoying. and even then whenever the camera hits a wall, its really jarring for me so... crossing my fingers this gets fixed soon.

I have this bug too and it bothers me to no end because I can't fight in first person mode. How can I see the red or react when the camera bounces from first to third person.
  • BlackRoseWaltz
I'm wondering if this is even being looked into, as every other post i'm seeing lately has no mention of this camera bug, and its mildly concerning - its all about login que problems and activity finder lag, one of the latest big posts from the devs have mentioned that apparently that big hiccup lately was due to a hardware failure on their end that they failed to address at first thinking it was a software problem when ZOS tried to initiate the database switching thing. that's fine and all, things happen, but what i want to know is what all of that has to do with my camera - a very vital part of even playing the game at all - and what that has to do with any of that mess and why its acting up and has been acting up since update 33 dropped - and what the fix is and/or if one is even being worked on. i haven't been inclined to log in lately knowing this issue hasn't been fixed because i can't play if i cant see properly - i mean sure you can see in first person but like i've said before, i play in third person mostly and the uncontrolled shifting from third to first whenever the camera hits a physical wall in the background and back again when running around is rather jarring - its physically difficult to play and shouldn't be - i'm inclined not to play the game merely because of that and i'm one of those who logs in and plays nearly every day if not every other day, even if its not for long, and i've been playing since around late 2014/ early 2015. all in all, i'm wondering what's being done about this camera issue - if anything at all. i'm a fan of silence only when it indicates nothing is awry. silence during an issue is only irritating.
Whatever it is, I want it painted black.
