When I was starting earlier this year, I just saw fast-moving players as something for me to work towards. But I was only questing in those days and you don't really need to go fast to quest.

So, I've been around the starter zones and it just pains me to see how slowly the new players move around. Call me a sap but I genuinely feel sad for them, not being able to get around to places more quickly. I understand that there is a "discovery" part of ESO but this is just too painful to watch. ZOS, just give everyone a permanent speed boost instead of forcing people to go into pvp and reach level 3 in Assault. All new players have no idea what I'm talking about when I whisper them about it. Save the people time so they can enjoy other parts of the game more.

Please no , i leave speed on the cp tree at 11points. Extra speed would just ruin my gameplay.

That being said it feels amazing being new slow , and slowly becoming fast. It's pogression.
I would however love if mounts had a speed boost of at least 5%

For new players, I'd like ZOS to change mount training to give one point in each category each day for 250 gold. Its absurd that new players need to do a minimum of 6 months of training to get an upgraded mount. They fixed the need to train individual mounts so I'd like to see this changed next.

    Agreed.

Please do NOT force this on us.

I don't want more speed and purposely avoid the ring and skills and champion points that give them. Running around at warp speed feels rushed and frantic and completely ruins my enjoyment.

I agree that it would not be good to force this on everyone just as it would not be a good idea to force Major Galop on everyone. Sure, some would like it but that does not mean it is good to force it on everyone.

Totally. Speed in this game, especially move speed itself is something to be respected and when modified should be treated with great care. When Summerset Isles was released, the speed bonus from that DLC was problematic and led to a great many issues in places like PvP as some players were literally unkillable.

Now speed can still be modified and your build should have a certain amount of speed but too much just breaks the game. But move speed will need to be increased in situations where you're using Snowtreaders and cannot Sprint during Combat.

Fyrakin's Mini Map provides a UI Function for measuring speed in % but you have to go into Settings to turn it on. Note, be careful when measuring speed in newer zones as sometimes the value will be erroneous.

There was a time we didn't and we figured it out. I'm guessing new players have the same cognitive capacity we have and they will figure it out. And they have an advantage of a zone full of experienced players that can point them in the correct direction.

I've started leaving my speed at 40 on everyone. 60 is way faster than I need. Sure, 20 points doesn't save much time overall, but that's not a problem for me - I don't need to be ANYWHERE fast....

Hah just wanted to add, this reminds me of when I first started playing ESO and got lost in Auridon of all places.

That was one amazing thing about this game both then and now is how someone can so easily get lost on a small Island. Imagine what I thought of Grahtwood hah.

    Ahhh. Those were good times.

Here's how I do things (and this is just me, with a lot of time to play because I'm old, and retired, and games are my hobby):

When I start a new alt, the first thing I do after logging into the game the first time is port to the major cities: I have all the inn rooms, so that's easy. I run around picking up "junk" armor/weapons, unlock any chests I run across (mostly in Vvardenfell), unlock all three armor lines and whichever weapon line I need for that alt. Then I find (usually in Vivec) the stablemaster and start that.

After that I run around Vvardenfell until I get to level 4, and then I do the first Coldharbour quest, making sure I'm on an XP scroll. Then I do the Harborage quest. By that time, I'm nearly level 6. At level 6 I do the crafting "learning" questlines - easy XP on a scroll for sure - gets me to halfway to level 9. Then I go to Solitude to pick up the antiquities skill line, and after that I do green antiquities until I can perk into blue ones, then go back to do all the blue ones that I got for the greens I dug. And usually at that point I'm level 12 or so.

And then I park the character at the stablemaster until I have level 40 in speed. The other riding things don't matter much to me.

Oh, and here's the total joke....

None of my characters really ride all that much....

Heh. Yeah. All my characters farm nodes while they're active, whatever they're doing. Mount/dismount/pick/remount gets me dc'd by the second iteration - it's a satellite thing....

So yeah. I don't ride much.

I actually think the mount speed perks in the green tree should be the ACTIVE perks (and most of the others should be passive) so we can slot them when we want to go fast and unslot them when we want to be slower for some reason, like keeping pace with other players who don’t use them.

But then Craft champion point tree would lose some of its flair.

That tree is so deprived of flair that I don't think the loss would matter much. It really is only truly usefull for two things ... for theives and for crafters. They stuck mounts in there because it was such a nonsensical design they had to make it somewhat utilitarian for players who give no [snip] about crafters or thieves. If your toon isn't a crafter and isn't a thief, that tree is basically pointless.

And even then, how did they manage that? They put the mounts at the very end where you have to spend a bunch of points in stuff you might not want on most of your toons. [snip] For the love of the divines, at least put the mounts in early on so those of us who aren't into thievery and crafting on every toon can put green into something we care about.

I mean really, it's a mount. That doesn't really ruin anyone's game if someone has a fast mount.

I mean they learn pretty quickly. There is mail that tells them to learn about Cyrodiil and just doing that quest gets them the speed boost if they actually read the skills.

The thing is, you don’t want to bridge the gap too much otherwise the incentive to buff mount speed isn’t there anymore. Having fully buffed speed only offer 25% more isn’t worth, but at the same time 60% more speed (which feels like 300%) is pretty nuts.

    Solutions:
    1. Bring it down to about 35% more speed at max rank but buff base speed by 25%.

    Or

    2. Put a flat gold cost and allow unlimited upgrades daily. Meaning vet players can simply rank it up fast and new players can go out and quest more getting the gold required. Maybe 1k gold per point that gets more expensive each time capping at 5k per point after it’s half full.

Y'know, I'm not a "real" MMO player - I played WoW for a while, and RIFT. But Skyrim took up all my time for YEARS. And still, when I decided to play ESO, the FIRST thing I did was read hundreds of posts on this forum. And after that, I spent weeks on google....

As said by some before, please don't force that onto us. I don't want to run high speed all the time. I want to be able to chose when I use it - or not.

I enjoy normal speed. This is the one I use the most, especially when I wander freely in explorable, enjoying landscape and farming resources, chests and portals. High speed is for me a practical option I use in specific cases only. I don't like it much. I even regret that I leveled up the speed of my horse "too much" to my taste.

Please don't force the speed boost. I don't want the mad rush all the time. Not to mention that increasing Movement speed beyond certain threshold disables the animations from your active personality. Increase the sprint speed, or make it a separate passive, or any other method that leaves player in control of their speed. I've already had to take points out of Continuous Attack because of that. Please no "permanent boost" that can't be turned off.

i feel like the speed in the game is fine as it is

the only thing that needs to be made less annoying is freaking mount training, i absolute hate it and generally ignore doing that on all my toons

i refuse to buy mount upgrades until i can buy all of them at once with gold (essentially remove the dumb 20 hour cooldown)

outside of that, most of my toons can just use a ring of the wild hunt and already sprint well faster than the mounts especially if they have a major expedition source too, its incredibly easy to get to run speed cap now anyway compared to wasting 30-60 days maxing mount speed (30 to even make mount faster than sprinting, 60 to max it out to make it faster than run speed cap)

While I would appreciate a shorter mount upgrade cooldown, we do not need any other speed boosts. You have to take dynamic loading into account, and if I got an unwanted speed boost, I would end up slowed down again by looking at avoidable loading screens. At a mount speed of 30, I can already run from the door of Alinor Crest to the Alinor Wayshrine and then have to wait nearly a full minute before the Guild Traders pop in. Faster speed in the overworld? Mid-zone loading screen. Not all of us have ideal platforms or connections.

Same, on creating new alts I tend to have them sitting at the stable leveling up riding for a mount or two, also doing crafting research, most leveling is doing random dungeons. Especially during events you can get 3-4 levels doing one if you also do the dungeon quest.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

This is not needed, When I started playing a few years ago it felt natural, normal and just fine. When going for PVP you'll have an incentive to start increasing your movement speed but even then it's fine that it's a choice. (or a CP investment that you can do pretty early on)

I even hate gallop animations when I'm at 60 riding speed, Using a mount at 0 riding speed has a lot better animations. Now, that's something they should fix.

The Mount skill is cumbersome though, that I'll admit.

Something needs to be done about the soul crushing mount upgrade grind. That is the answer.

That being said, I worry sometimes that people worry a little too much about new players. True, they are in noob gear and they have to work for things, but I think something is taken away from them when an old player comes along and slingshots them toward max progression. I know people who introduce their friends to the game and they're like "All right, first thing we have to do is grind you to 50." Stooooop!
