Hey @SimonThesis. Thanks for the feedback. We have been considering the pros and cons of potentially implementing something like this. Having feedback like this is helpful as we consider if a feature like this helpful to the community and our moderators. Appreciate you bringing this up and thoughts from others on whether players support this or not. We'll keep an eye on this thread for more feedback on this potential feature.

I would say that either remove the policy of closing old threads when someone goes to post on them or auto close the threads. The fact that old threads stay open suggests you are open to people commenting on them, but the actions of your moderators suggests the opposite. Right now, you have contradictory messages in your forums.

It's really not a contradiction. Old threads that shouldn't be necroed can be quoted if they are open. And having the physical capability of doing something isn't really the same as permission.

Right now they have people exercise judgement because some old threads are still worthy of discussion, and some are not and contain outdated information.

Can you point me to threads that were necroed and not closed? I think the overwhelming trend is that they are closed, most often without the discretion the community would expect and appreciate.

Yes. I got a pretty good example.

This thread was created in 2014. And it's full of people's favorite one liners. These lines are still in the game, so it's not outdated. And the community has added to it every now and again over the years, building on the one liners offered in the past.

It's a great thread. The latest time it was necroed, we even got a green post about what a fun thread this is. It would be a shame to see it closed.

It is not a guide. Just a fun thing this community loves to participate in for a while. Then people will forget about it until they've had a chance to play new stuff or revisit some old stuff, and then it gets participants again.

Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately that grace isn't always extended to similar threads:

@ZOS_Kevin Can we get that thread reopened please? Asked several times already, would be nice to see that positive change.

That thread wasn't for showing off vampires but a specific user asking for advice on their own look, and they also posted their completed outfit as an update. So I actually agree that should remain closed. I recommend making a new thread for showcasing vamps if you'd like to take that on.

    Edit:

I say that because someone who didn't make a show off thread may not want their notifications flooded with images they didn't ask to see.

We unlocked that page incase others want to contribute to vampire fashion tips. But as @spartaxoxo mentioned, if the user gets flooded with notifications and doesn't want/need the tips, we can always close it again.

Seems like a lot of the forums managers have to close threads people reply to after being dead for years. Instead of making them do more work, have threads autoclose after 6 months from the last reply. @ZOS_Kevin

Maybe. Maybe not. I've had one closed where the thread was still relevant. They closed it after the last reply. Then I just had to repost it. What's the point of that?

People can always start a new thread referencing the old closed one. And the closed one can still be read.
I agree threads not updated in say 6 months should be closed, meaning they can be read but not updated.

Are they running out of space or something? Otherwise, keeping threads open is fine by me.

I know I'm still confused by what threads get closed and which don't. There was a popular "What NPC would you marry if you could" thread that was just revived only to be closed. I can understand why certain threads with info that's no longer relevant might be closed, but I am not sure why this thread was closed when it is indeed still relevant.

It might be a matter of money. If ZOS is paying an outside vendor for a package of features, they may only want to subscribe to what they believe are the most important things. Auto-close of threads might be too far down in their list of priorities to add to the package, especially when they employ people specifically to manage the forums. I'm not saying anything about right or wrong, or whose opinion matters most. It may be just a decision some bean counter made a long time ago and they don't want or (think they) need to change it.

    I saw that one.

I mean, it had been dead for over a year.

On the other hand, I think some of the later comments illustrate why it's an evergreen thread.

It was closed because it was started in 2019, but in 2020, there was a spate of comments saying people really liked Fennorian!

And while the thread's been dead since 2020, there were a number of popular NPCs like Eveli and Revus who made reappearances in Blackwood. It's not like the content itself is outdated.

Personally, I think it's kind of interesting to have though long-running threads just to see what NPCs the community got attached to over time.

I would have liked it to stay open too. And people still like a number of NPCs they liked before (I know I still like Fennorian), so that still counts as currently relevant right? :D

It's a mixed bag for me. I agree with you that it's nice to look back on things sometimes, especially this particular thread. For other times, I'm sure I've said some embarrassing things on the forums in the past (I always manage to make a fool of myself at some point), so maybe I'm not too eager for every thread to necessarily stick around forever.... :s

here's another one - purely cosmetic and you can see the end result:
    forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/492724/what-npc-would-your-character-marry-if-you-could#latest

This is precisely what we're talking about - all we're asking for is a little discretion.
