Can't say anything about FFXIV, but I was a maintank in a semi-progress guild for years. It's ridiculous how many "handholding" addons WoW has. But again, the raid encounters are probably designed that way with them in mind...

Tanks need some help with encounter mechanics. Simply putting down telegraphs is not enough when there are a gazillion dungeons with a bunch of bosses in them.

You're right, it's really not. And this is especially the case when you have Daedroths standing on top of all the telegraphs so you can't see them anyway.

It's a real problem and I wish the developers would take it seriously and try and do something about it. The whole time you block or be one shotted thing just isn't working out and needs to either be adjusted or removed entirely.

What gameplay changes would you like to see?
Should playing Tank and somewhat healer gain you more rewards than dmg?

Like legit, i Remember some years ago daily normal dungeons would take me 5-15 mins when i play dmg, now they take up to 10 -30 mins++ , i once waited 1 hour :(
Is it possible pvp is holding tanks back?
Would more damage on sword and shield be useful? Maybe a aura that does damage over time when you block

I did a poll that gives a idea of how popular tank is > https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/592221/poll-for-pve-what-role-do-you-like-to-play/p1

    KM8CGNO.gif

Tanks are always grossly exaggerated to the point of absurdity when it comes to PvP on here, so it probably has lead to a lot of stupid and unwarranted nerfs.

I recommend everyone (especially those who play as tanks) who see this misinformation about how tanks are supposedly "unkillable" or require "a zerg" to kill to start challenging these posters so it doesn't spread to the point that people actually think it's true .

As to how to make them more enjoyable to play: they need to do away with all the impediments that get in the way of blocking so tanks can comfortably deal with heavy attacks without having to constantly steer around a fat Daedroth in their face, which is every bit as annoying as it sounds.

I also think it would help if they added an area taunt so tanks besides Dragon Knights can effectively control groups without having to resort to single taunt spam.

A lot of people also complain about damage, so that must be an issue. Though I myself believe tanks are capable of doing adequate damage considering their superior defenses. I've never liked the idea of tanks doing lots of damage, as that kind of defeats the whole purpose of a tank, which is suppose to be defensive. And 10k is more than enough damage to obliterate the landscape and all questing content. Add companions into the mix, and I really don't see how this is a problem. But maybe there is something there that needs to be looked at.

    Kneecap DPS’ damage

    Make Tanking defacto CC queens/kings
(Let us stun Bosses and ect)

Prevent Players from pushing past phases by sheer dps

    OR

Remove the need for Holy Trinity and make them playstyles and allow players to deal a bit more damage.

We can have defense supports and defense attackers instead of tanks. Same deal with Healers.

They could start by ... trying.

But let's see in no particular order:

Get the Daedroth out of my face

Get the 8,000+ giant flashing lights out of my face

    Have block work consistently

    Stop nerfing tank sustain

Fine if you want to cut speed (though really unnecessary) but don't also make it cost more to roll dodge for wearing heavy -- it's entirely a PvP problem that punishes PvE tanks because ...

Stop making mechanics that are "roll dodge or die"

Stop making attacks that are guaranteed instant death as opposed to just really high amounts of damage. I can change my build and playstyle to absorb damage, instant die-no-matter-what-unless-you-roll-dodge is not fun gameplay

Stop designing trials on the assumption nobody experiences any lag

Ensure attacks that are telegraphed are actually telegraphed and with a reasonable amount of time to do something about

Give players more inventory because tanks (and healers) have to carry five full sets of gear at all times in this current game

    ...

You know, easy stuff like that.

I wish I didn't have to hop to do a ranged taunt, or to chain because of awkwardly sized hitboxes.

I wish my chain abilities (which ever they might be) wouldn't be completely negated by someones bear, or ice staff, or any other of the myriad of CC abilities people use, especially since it is PvE..

I wish taunting (and overtaunting) was more clearly defined and recognizable instead of me just having to keep a mental account of every timer on my screen.

I wish taunts weren't quite so demanding on my tanks limited resources.

Stop blocking my view with constantly respawning Daedroth butts and necromancer colossi.

For what it's worth, there is no overtaunting unless someone else is using taunt on the same enemy. You can spam taunt to your heart's content otherwise.

Timers though, absolutely. When I was running an ice staff tank back when it was the ice heavy attack that taunted, I used an addon timer "Untaunted" and that was a godsend. It's not needed of course, since console players have tanked all content without addons, but it was a really nice QOL feature while I used it.

Things to hit harder and scale with cp better.

I shouldn't be able to block bosses on veteran without adequate resistance. I see cp 200 fake tanking (they admit it) successful

Poof there goes fake tanks 😯♥️😯

I think a big part of the problem is that the game is designed where tanks are only needed for a tiny % of it. Really there's only 2 times:

    1 - Dungeons/Trials

    2 - World Bosses.

So you need to ask - should we open up more of the game where tanking is needed? Like Overland for example (not talking world bosses). I think the answer there is no.

With regards to trials and those really hard Dungeons there is no issue really. But for the easier dungeons, maybe they need another look at. Make them so you NEED a tank for every single one of the bosses. Basically some mechanic only tanks can bring or some such.

World Bosses is a different thing altogether. Unless I am mistaken you only ever need 1 tank right with a taunt? If there are more than that, the taunt is not applied or some such, am I correct? If this is the situation this is a HUGE problem. An easy fix here could be how Guildwars 2 deals with it in some cases. Basically the boss has a extra bar or a "shield" which needs to be broken before damage can be taken. The shield is broken by taunt or other such "Crowd Control" skills such as pull, immobilize and such. Each tank's activated skill only removes a portion of the bar - thus needing more than one tank to remove the bar/shield. This should be what is needed at world bosses, so you actually NEED more than one Tank (or I should say chars with tank/control skills) and having more than 1 does not punish the tanks.

I don't think there is anything ZOS can do to make tanking more fun. Tanking is a very specific playstyle, which most players do not like.

But I do feel ZOS could increase groupsize to 5 players, 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 DPS. This would make dungeons overall more smooth, due to more DPS. And it would make the DPS queue move faster, due to more DPS players getting into a dungeon at once.

PS: And ZOS should remove all the heavy armor downsides, especially those impacting running & resources! (it is crazy medium armor is now considered the tanking meta)

Firstly, if you think tanking is boring, try harder stuff - controlling enemies and being alive is as much entertaining as DD

Secondly, after last patch, you can already make a nice dd-tank build. The most tricky part are CP, but if you have enough CP to keeping all tank & dd stars, you can optimize the active stars before each fight to use only those that will impact your efficiency the most.

Thirdly, remember about pvp - ESO already have issue with vixers. Personally, i don't think further boosting of dmg for heavy sets could be done with game working on both: pvp & pve levels, but maybe zos would have some good idea how to rework it.

And finally, the only way to make it work (really boost tank dmg) is to redesign holy trinity. For example make tank melee dd, keep dd as range & infiltrators, focus support/healer on a purely "magic" combat. Then you can play with rock-paper-scissors.

Double xp from dungeon if all priority adds and bosses reach a certain threshold of maintaining aggro with taunt. If threshold not met, you get same amount of xp as everyone else. Can turn on a UI indicator similar to alliance faction indicator (shield above person's head) in PVP that teaches tank and other roles which enemy should be taunted.

    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).
