It's been my experience with MMOs and the developers thereof that if they choose not to communicate with players about a change, there's nothing said players can do about it, except continue to play while adjusting to the change, or choose to no longer play.

My guess is that they're not reverting this one.

I'm sure you're not. I have a couple of friends who lost a bunch as well. They're not happy of course. They haven't said anything about no longer playing, so I guess they're staying.

I never was hanging onto leads - I like to do them as soon as I get them so I don't forget about them. I almost never have purple or gold leads myself, so when that shows up on Endeavors, it's one I don't bother with.

I do think it would be nice for ZOS to return the leads everyone lost, showing the expiry date in 30 days....

ZOS did try to return leads to the PC players, although I'm under the impression that some PC players say they didn't get all of their leads back, in which case it might not be as simple as we would like to think it should be. In any case, ZOS didn't have to return any leads at all, but they knew that the PC players had been caught unawares by the change.

As for the console players, they had the benefit of knowing what happened to the PC players 3 weeks before, so ZOS might be inclined to take the stance that the console players should have used those 3 weeks to scry and excavate outstanding leads so they wouldn't end up losing them. Any console players who were completely oblivious to what happened 3 weeks before might be best off submitting a politely-worded support ticket listing which leads they lost.

“Benefit” it was never properly told to us

You have two choices, you know? Do nothing, or do something.

Told how though? It was stated on the website, which is the place you're supposed to go for news.

There is an announcement screen when you load into PS4 just like the PC launcher.
    Wish they used it more.

What am I supposed to do? I don’t have any screenshots of the leads i lost, so what good does submitting a ticket do?

Stop blaming bugs put in by the developers on me and acting like its my fault they broke the game

    (1) It isn't a bug. No matter how much you or anyone else wants it to be classified as a bug, if it was a change that ZOS made with the intention that it would be the new normal, then it isn't a bug and everyone is going to have to adapt to the new way.

    (2) Any leads that you lost were more than 30 days old, and you must have gotten and excavated them at least once before or else they would have already had timers on them and would have expired anyway. So it isn't like you couldn't have excavated them yet for lack of skill because you hadn't grinded (ground?) the skills up to whatever levels were needed for those leads-- you had the ability to scry and excavate them but chose not to. So I'm asking this out of curiosity-- if they weren't important enough to you to hurry up and scry and excavate them once the PC players got hit by the change and the console community caught wind that this change was coming, or to at least take screenshots of them so you'd know whether you lost any leads and which ones they were, then why is it suddenly so important now?

As far as (1) is concerned, I personally don't care one way or the other, because I know that I don't have a choice in the matter and I'm just going to have to adapt to whatever changes ZOS decides to make. So if you or anyone else wants to keep calling this a bug when it's pretty clear by now that it was an intended change, then hey-- go ahead, knock yourself out, call it that if it makes you feel better. All I'm saying is, don't get your hopes up that it's something that's going to be "fixed."

And as far as (2) is concerned, I had a lot of leads that I was letting sit there, too, and I lost them because I play on PC and we the PC community had no idea this was coming. But they were leads I'd already excavated before, and I was letting them sit as a tactic for avoiding getting another one over and over again, so losing them was no big deal to me. And when I lost codex entries-- which, AFAIK, is something that didn't happen to the console community because that part was indeed a bug and it got fixed before it went live on console-- I just let the codex entries repopulate as I started finding and excavating more of the leads that had been lost. But my point is, they weren't very important to me before I lost them, either. But after I did lose them, they still weren't very important to me.
