Where are they fighting?

If I pass them in an open field, I'm usually already heading to a different battle where stopping to fight might result in me missing the bigger fight I'm heading towards. I ride on by.

If they are dueling by an alliance objective, however, they can't reasonably expect privacy. Besides, most people who go to objectives to fight do so with the expectation that it will turn into a brawl.


There's also a flip side to this question, which is that every so often PVP players post the question "Why won't people stop and fight me in the open field, but just keep riding by even when I hit them?"

My answer is the same: because I'm headed towards a bigger battle with a bigger AP tick than I'm going to get from stopping to fight a random guy in a field.

I usually sneak in heals to the player on my faction.

I cant have him losing and looking bad because his/her credit score will go down. And if you take eso seriously then if you die in eso you die irl !

If it's in the middle of no where and it's pretty even, and the enemy doesn't attack me, I'll stand by and watch. If my ally dies I'll try to res them if allowed by the enemy player, if not then queue my own 1v1.

I'm not going to run in and grab someone else's kill unless I know them and I know they want me to. That might be a new player who's about to get their first kill, or it might be someone who's been fighting that person for a while and was finally about to take them down. It might be their last kill they need for a quest that day and they're already late for dinner. It just seems petty to go after them with all the "what ifs".

"Wrong alliance" implies Cyrodiil or Imperial City. I'm sure you knew that, but I got a chuckle out of imagining how this might go down:

I mean, alliance loyalty really isn't a factor in Battlegrounds, which are explicitly 4v4v4 team-based gameplay.

Next to a battle at a keep, scroll, etc. I don't respect "1v1". Just not happening. You can do your 1v1 someplace else.

I often thought, oh, this is a nice fight... then the enemy's buddy joins, they kill me and I get even teabagged. So I get more and more frustrated. Sometimes I left players alone because I thought they are questers and they don't want to fight (low AR and so on). But then they are come back 2 minutes later with some friends. LOL? It's always delicious to kill those players. Then when it comes to Imperial City, there are players who try to gank you just when you enter a loading screen to another area or even back to your base. When my screen already darkens I get "pulled back" and this ganker is on my. This is absolutely the worst, in my opinion this kind of behavior should be considered griefing. Experiences like that make me consider any kind of honor and respect less and less.

So the most reliable source for me to respect a 1v1 is to recognize the player's name. When I see the name and I know, oh, this is a solo player, I will be much more likely to keep my distance.

If I see a solo player or a duo, trio etc. killing visible worse players, I try to help them as good as I can. This especially concerns those tower runners. I hate tower runners. So I get in there, stun them, wait at their shadow if it's a nightblade etc. Often they bind even a full PUG for a long time where that PUG could take a keep in that time they are chasing a few tower runners. However, tower runners want to 1vX, so they are free for all anyway. And I prefer PUGs taking keeps instead of chasing tower runners.

Then it is different for me if I run in a group or if I am running solo. I can barely find any 1v1 anyway in Cyrodiil, but I am much more likely to recognize or respect a 1v1. When I am running in a group, we play for objectives. If there is a solo player sitting at a ressource looking for 1v1, I am sorry, but when we need to take that ressource as objective, that player needs to leave or die and it might be we "zerg her down", because we don't want to take that player to take the ressource again the minute we leave.

That all said... I wish there was a dueling option outside Cyrodiil which allows for a no CP + Battle Spirit match. Just like it would be in the no CP campaigns. I honestly don't get it why ZOS never did that. I would so much like to hang out at a dueling spot if it were under the same conditions as I do open world pvp.

Don't even stop to consider if it is a 1v1 or not. Doesn't cross my mind, don't care. It's an AvAvA zone, and that is my mentality.

Inside an objective radius? Kill 'em.

Outside an objective radius? That's not the objective, is it?

What matters is having fun. Full stop. A good even matchup is far more enjoyable for everyone than a thirsty zerg kill. If I see two players going toe to toe, I'll usually leave them be. But the second some ganker tries to get involved or some noob jumps in to 2v1, I'll always jump in and focus the newcomer.
