Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Tanks, what's the most annoying thing players do when you are tanking for random groups?

The most annoying ones are the people who speedrun off without considering others. ESO really need to fix the transmute crystal incentives to get those people into vet or soloing them instead. Likewise the same problem is a big cause of the "queue for random/oh a DLC/quit" cycle which is annoying as a tank but far worse in other roles.

People who respond to someone wanting to do the quest with "no" or by leaving (tanks included)

Other stuff is often funny - newbies who've watched too many end gamer videos trying to pull all the trash into a giant heap and all dying, or pushing all the buttons at once in BC1 without clearing it one step at a time.

And some is just education. Misusing cc abilities, accidentally taunting (the ice staff change was so needed), and even more so people who accidentally get the aggro of something and then run *away* from the tank not towards it.

Still prefer doing runs with newbies to CP 1600 'I've got a ring of the wild hunt and I want to do FG1 in 60 seconds' types.

Never had problems with people demanding trial gear or the like on PC EU but I only do vet content in guild groups. If they did I'd probably laugh at them because for most 4 man real content the trial gear isn't the best tank gear anyway.

Impatient DDs with no damage. If you melt the room before I get a chance to chain and CC - cool.
If all you're doing is scattering the adds around the room because you want to feel badass, while your gun is empty, please don't. You pull it you Tank it, don't look at me with frustrated eyes if you pull something above your paygrade..

People that don't understand mechs but still gets angry at the Tank is a classic. In the mind of some people.. if they get hit by anything it's the tanks fault. I still remember the healer who told me it was my fault because he died standing in red circles. Like.. How do you want me to tank AOE's bro? The boss is turned around and not facing you.. The rest is kinda up to you.

People who think the Tank is an extension of their inventory.
Wear this, put those skills on, carry that... Like dude.. Relax it's a Direfrost dungeon pledge not vCR+2

In trash fights. Especially easy trash fights. When DPS or Healer have agro on a weaker trash mob, or several, and they start running away...... further from the pull I am trying to make. Making it harder for me to chain them in and or taunt them. You are gonna get hit anyway, just run into the stack and the mobs die faster and I can taunt and chain them easier.

Also people that do not talk, even when asked a direct question in chat. And I am not talking about loot, I use a loot addon but I try to not ask directly cause people feel their privacy was violated or whatever. What I mean is, example; FG1 is pledge, I queue in, I ask "hey can we skip all the trash and side bosses and just run to main bosses or do you guys want to do the full thing?" Cause I will only rush it if people are ok with it. NO RESPONSE.... In which case I rush through it out of spite and if they wanted the full thing they should have spoken up.

Running to the Boss to be "First" taking aggro, now I have to pull the Boss back to where I want him so DPS's can do their thing (hopefully).

Note to new players, when a tank has the aggro on the Boss, flank the Boss or stand behind the Boss, not next to the tank facing the Boss.

Pulling mobs agead of me. I'll usually leave over that. Sometimes I'll say something, and if they stop, no big deal, others I just leave.

It is shocking how many people don't bother to interrupt, like god guys it's just one button and one of the few things actually taught in the tutorial.

People who blame me for not gathering all the ads up, but I got like 5-6 ads in a nice little group and they're off all the way across the arena, fighting 1-3 ads. Like dudes DRAG THEM OVER HERE and get to melting!

Mine is basically the same thing; when people don't stack safely on/around the adds I'm grouping, especially since I'm putting CC and debuffs/buffs there.
It's especially annoying on a class that has to use silver chain and I don't see that someone already CCed it somehow so I can't pull it in because of the CC immunity but lose stam anyway.

Guys who just run off in front of the group trying to solo the dungeon, this is a real problem now to be honest. Normal dungeons are ruined by these guys, there really needs to be a cap (on CP perhaps) on who can queue for normal dungeons now. Make a new character and go see the state of normal dungeons now, i would hate to be a new player nowadays. You dont see the dungeon or some of the bosses now because of selfish bottom feeders.

Awful DPS (me doing 20%+ of group damage) and people that have a mob(s) on them and run them as far from the group as possible (so not helping stack for AE).

One of the more outstanding ones -Dps using sword and board

Maw of the Infernal / dropping ult in front of the boss. Drop that crap on the bosses butt, tanks can still hit any synergy just fine.

"Behind the boss" makes a lot more sense to me than "behind the tank".

I don't think there's any fix to Maw of the Infernal other than simply not running that set.

If Maw spawned on the flank of the target, 95%+ of the pain eliminated right there. I for one would not have any complaints if this was implemented.

I too noticed this as well, few days ago we kept dying because noone interrupted. There are many occassions where players need to interrupt, and do not.

But I fault this to fake tanks, as groups are used to skipping everything they can. So they do not even know they need to interrupt. If you have a real tank, 9 out of 10 times it is faster to kill everything. Especially in the tougher dungeons where you might need a replacement at some point, and where the mobs actually teach you the mechanics.

Another annoying thing, is when players run ahead assuming you want to skip everything you can. And when the group gets aggro they do not double back, but instead get angry and demand to skip. If they would double back and help, the mobs would have been dead fast. Letting three players die in a group of mobs, is not going to make the dungeon any faster.

Fake tanks(roles) are bad for the game, in so many ways!

PS: I am often placed in unfinished dungeon runs, and when I see the groups of skipped mobs. I already know they had a bad tank.

Its almost like the game never asks you to do it outside of tutorials- but that's another argument for a different thread.

I honestly had some say they didn't have an interrupt skill to put on their bar and I was stunned for a good couple seconds....like, buddy, friend...hold right click, tap left click. Player in question was over 400 CP

I apologise for the OT but this really grinds my gears.

Queuing as a DD the longest portion of a dungeon run for me is the wait in the queue.

Next most time consuming 'task' is unskippable mechanics (this is egregious in some DLC dungeons; it might be 'cute' and 'fun' the first three or four times but on your 70th run for that piece of equipment that just won't drop it just brings everything to a screeching halt).

Skipping and running like a maniac saves maybe 3-4% of the overall duration of the run - being generous here - for your average Joe, can you please not? Specially if you skipped the queue as well by queuing as a job that you most definitely cannot and have to intention to perform?

For me when tanking pugs it is when players think because they are getting attacked by the boss, it's because I am not holding aggro. For example, today in my veteran Spindlecluth I pug, I had a player become very toxic towards me with messages because they were getting randomly attacked by the spider boss. I tried to explain that I am using the addon untaunted to keep 100% aggro but for the spider boss mechanics the boss does random attacks to the group players even though the tank has taunted the boss and currently holds aggro lol.

If they haven't yet learned that quite a few bosses have a mechanic like that, maybe they are not yet ready for vet dungeons
Veit ég aðég hékk vindga meiði á nætr allar níu, geiri undaðr og gefinn Oðni, sjálfr sjálfum mér, á þeim meiði er manngi veit hvers hann af rótum rennr.

Scalecaller is my favorite dungeon. It requires a lot of patience and teamwork. Unless, of course, everybody is l33t...
What bugs me the most are the people who say they know it but after 5 seconds into the fight it is apparent that they don't. Please say you don't know if you don't know. Tanks have a short Q time. We shouldn't mind taking an extra coupla seconds to explain the mechs. The dungeon actually get done faster than wiping 50 times. And for those folks who complain about people not knowing stuff... You signed up for a PUG. Play the hand you were dealt. Or stick with Guildies and stuff.

Honestly, when I do PvE -- not often, but still -- I tank. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. But what absolutely infuriates me above all else is when other players don't do the mechanics like dealing with adds or not doing enough damage to a target winding up some kind of party spank attack, or whatever it is the bosses do. Just not doing enough damage and not paying enough attention in general, I guess.

That on repeat is my idea of purgatory.

My healer didn't pull and still was the tank.

My biggest gripe I took a break from tanking because of what everyone here has said. And my DPS or Healer ends up tanking because of fake tanks in party.

More constitutive, biggest gripe asking if everyone knows the mechanics before tanking and nobody except me actually knows the mechanics once I pull.

9 times out of 10 the rando commandos are actually pretty decent.

I've had pretty good experiences with most of the pick up groups, get the hard modes done and even a trifecta at times.

Overall I enjoy the tanking because of the instance queuing but I have left a few groups out of frustration with them not understanding the mechanics. Two wipes and I'm usually out.

The guy with acid spray that soft agros an entire pull then runs around the room.

Also people who run volcanic rune when they have a real tank. It's not helpful, it just makes it harder for me to stack enemies because I can't chain them in.

Im a tank main, have been since i started right before summerset dropped. I pug slow, i never run anywhere whereas everyone sprints past me, and i dont give 2 fladoodles about rushing i take my time to pull mobs and position in a good way, i dont care if dps numbers are low ill send 2hrs in a dungeon and still be fine, but i have 2 pet peeves, they dont anger me per se but 1 is the maw helm, the daedroth breaking my sightlines is anoying but i can just sidestep, and then dps using cc skills that mean i cant pull. Pull is only an issue in low dmg groups tho most high dps wont care if a mob is out of group and throw dots on it anyway.

I'm sitting at CP 620ish atm and I've been tanking almost non-stop since I started playing again a month ago. It's funny to read all these responses so far as I haven't encountered many of these yet, such as the quizzing of gear I was wearing or other qualifiers.

Yet my biggest pet peeve is definitely related to speedunners.

    Oh boy.

    I'm sick of them.

As a tank I try and keep a pretty brisk pace, but if someone is new to the dungeon or needs to do a quest, I'll slow it down. I'll take shortcuts when need be and I'll keep an eye out for chests or heavy sacks. I don't like having my time wasted, so I try and not waste others if it isn't necessary.

What I absolute cannot stand are CP 1000+ jerkwads whose only talent appears to be pressing down the W key non-stop and if you can't keep up, too bad.

As was already mentioned, normal dungeon runs are absolutely filled to the brim with these elitist turds. They actively will ruin the dungeon for every one else just to save themselves (in their own minds) a couple minutes. This mindset of, "Press W, dump all AoEs, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... repeat." is a cancer on modern MMO culture and, as a tank, I really despise it even more because it's almost always some self important DPS that is the culprit.

I've more or less sworn off normal dungeons at this point and mostly do veteran dungeons. Not only is the atmosphere (mostly) better, but obviously the gear is worth it as well. However, you still will encounter this wonderful people even in veteran dungeons and it grinds my gears even more.

In short, slow down and let everyone do their jobs. A tank pulls, does CC, and sets the group's pace. Don't like it? Go sit in queue for another hour for all I care. There's no shortage of eager DPS to take your impatient ass's place.

    P.S.

Healers, please don't pull. I've encountered these gems a few times before too. Just stop.

On another positive note: And this cannot be stressed enough, most groups work out very well! I do often get players asking me what gear I use, and I see more and more players actually starting to use it.

Another positive note, two days ago I respecced another one of my characters into a templar tank. So I now have all classes, as a tank. Eight tanks in total, on which I will all try to do the daily random. Up up and away, to 3600 CP we go!
