Worst Botting I've ever seen in any online game I've EVER PLAYED

rflynn_ESO
The Rift last night, if you go to the zombie zone there are 3-5 bots there every single night.

I played WOW, the botting was bad there, but this is FAR FAR FAR worse than anything I've ever seen. These GM's have to get out more

I have never played WoW, but the last MMO I played had in game GMs monitoring World Chat and were available to ask questions and also complain to.
I'm not sure how common this is but if only an in game GM would pop in and say "Hi" to the World every now and then and go and look at these bots and either ban them directly or a stern warning at least.
Some of the happening in this game are rather depressing. I really hope they employ people just as monitors to look around and report every now and then.

I have personally noticed a huge decrease in the number of botting toons in all 5 zones unique to Ebonheart Pact in the last 24 hours.

There are several posts about how ZOS have taken action against botters today, There are evern posts on sites such as Reddit and Google+ where people have made comments to the effect of "I was in a dungeon/zone today and I saw a GM start to action and ban botting characters".

These all started going up about 20 hours ago, and through my travels until the servers went down for maintenance tonight, there has been absolutely no botters in any of the Stonefall, Deshaan, Shadowfen, Eastmarch or The Rift solo dungeons that I went into on any of my 3 toons spread over those zones.

I even noticed that the swamp in Deshaan was void of any botters today where yesterday when I logged out there, was littered shoulder to shoulder with auto follow/auto attacking botters.

I think that ZOS have taken action, and it has been evident not just for me, but for other players too.

Apparently OP has never played a NC Soft game. While I think the starting zones of this game are pretty bad, every square inch of Aion was dominated by bots, and major cities were so full of spam it was laughable. The difference in NC Soft games is years later and you still see the same issues. We will see if these guys let it slide

The only game I have played that had bots this bad was Aion.
ESO is giving Aion a run for the title of most bots in an MMO.

This tells us one thing though...
...they are selling a ton of gold!
If they weren't selling gold they wouldn't waste their time creating (or stealing) so many new accounts.

The botting problem is a huge issue in this would-be "immersive" game. The threads should continue spamming this forum until something drastic is done. "A round of bans and some promises of banning" has done nothing to stop this.

Which is why actions must include as we progress, something done to buyers as well. This is not a F2P where you run off to the cash shop and buy your way up the game. This is premium, so buying to support this kind of thing, and buy your way up needs to be dealt with as well. Otherwise the economy will break soon like in so many others thanks to those who would rather have it all thanks to their credit card than earn anything in the game. You can see the attempts to manipulate the economy coming into play already with the attempts to manipulate the pricing of items. Which is actually another good thing about not having the AH, there is not one central sell point where the gold sellers can attempt to control the price of the items.
Take your stupid bots and your stupid gold selling out of here...

You just explained exactly what the GM's in ESO have been doing.

There's been GM's in Coldharbor constantly to fix everyone's quests and make sure they can progress, there's been bots banned constantly from public dungeons, etc. They're working hard but having GM's do all of the policing is a bandaid fix; it's a poor system and costs too much money. The solution is to fix the bugs, and have script to break automation. The script part is extraordinarily tricky, but I'm sure they're working on something that doesn't require them to throw excess money and personnel at the issue constantly.

At the height of botting in WoW, it was way worse. People have these ridiculous rose colored glasses about WoW, the game is like Teflon, nothing bad every sticks to it.

It had the worst release in MMO history, the worst account compromise in MMO history, the worst botting in MMO history, the list goes on. It's no wonder it's a target for all of this being so large and successful, but to say anything else is worse is asinine. I was in Battlegrounds that had more bots than humans. Tyr's Hand and the Hearthglen were so infested with bots at release it was comical.

It's crazy how perfect everyone expects an MMO to be at not even a month old, yet the only MMO that has ever launched without problems (relatively) was Rift.

They do everything possible for the safety of us customers and I bet
they are working on ways to combat the bots as we speak.

Sounds like something a Botter would say, I bet if they stop taking money from them and actually banned these accounts that the problem wouldn't be so bad. And just because they respond doesn't mean the bots are going away anytime soon...they make money on all those accounts. The problem is they don't realize how many people will quit over it, soon it will be just bots and the few Die Hards that will defend a broken game because they are epic White Knights

They haven't taken enough action. The bots are still there. I keep hearing the "its a new game" excuse but the fact remains that ESO has the worst botter problem of any MMO out there. Its seriously bad. there are so many you tube vids and screen shot of this problem all over these forums , yet people still deny its an issue. We should demand satisfaction for the money we paid to play this game. We as players don't owe this company anything, as we aren't charging the company to play the game, they owe us. period. Fix it soon or you will lose your community and end up on stream to die a slow death.

Condense all the bots from all the WoW servers into one mega server then I think you will find the issue is not that small in WOW just simply less visible due to the physical separation.

Based on my own personal experiences I am watching the bots I report disappear, I also then see new bots appear, hanging one area for around an hour reporting bots as they showed up to a node led to about 3+ hours clear of bots in that area. However if I went a medium distance to another area I would see the same issue all over again. Reporting does work but it isn't a swift process. I have seen people talk about bots with the same names are still there a week later even after reporting them, yet having taken multiple screenshots of bots with the same name it is very evident they are different toons, so there is a lot of recycling of names (most likely a script).

Reporting bots does work and the need to keep reporting them is paramount -- buying stolen credit card numbers to purchase accounts with costs the gold sellers real money - neutralising those accounts and credit cards is how we can make the entire system a negative income. So keep reporting them even when it feels like the tide is rolling in.

Because the dungeons that you go into without being in a group, are called solo dungeons. they do not signify that you are alone in them, just that you do not need a group to do them. It is the official name that Bethesda gave to the dungeons that everyone has been complaining about bots in.

No one is denying that there is an issue. Just look at the forums and in game chat.

What many of us ARE saying is that the game is new and to give them a chance to implement effective and long lasting solutions to the issue.

Demanding that 100 GM's hang out in game just to deal with the bot issues, while a band-aid fix to the problem isn't going to solve the issue long term.

Yes, the game is less than 1 month old. Yes, there are problems with bots. Yes there are problems with gold sellers. But it is STILL just less than 1 month old.

If they still have this problem in 6 months, then hell yeah, they will deserve all the complaints and derision we can throw at them in 200+ forum threads, and twitter feeds, and blog posts, and gamer sites.

It has the worst *current* botter problem because it's the newest triple A MMO to release, so the cash cow is there for gold sellers to milk.

WoW was way worse when it launched, and is still bad. You can never cure the problem, just like you can never rid the internet of viruses. People will always find script/code that works around a preventative measure. Look at the problems Steam's had with VAC - it takes weeks for a VAC ban to happen after a compromise has been detected, and by the time VAC detects a new compromise, the people writing the hacks have already come up with a new one. Even in biology, this is how the flu, cold, etc works, by mutating the strain slightly so they can bypass the natural defenses of the body.

You can never cure the problem, you can only make it so inconvenient for them that it's not worth the money. WoW still hasn't mastered this, they have bots, but the bigger problem there is account compromise. Be thankful we're discussing bots and not that.
