Suggestion to help PvE tanks

One of the main pain points in ESO is the low dps tanks suffer with in pve. While this is not necessarily a problem in dungeons or trials, it becomes a major problem when tanks are trying to do overland content like dailies or just simple questing.

I noticed in the new cp trees there is a passive the decreases the amount of damage received from PvE targets.

So how about another cp passive that increases damage against pve targets if a shield is equipped?

This can greatly help pve tanks yet have no effect on pvp.

Isn't this exactly what companions are for? At least I was planning to use them pretty much only on my tanks.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

The problem with companions is that they apparently cross over your entire account. If you make one of the two a tank for example, then it appears that companion will be a tank for all of your alts.Personally, I was hoping I could tailor each companion to work with each of my characters, but that appears to not be the case.

So it appears you have to think not what a companion will be for any one particular character, rather what is best for them to be across your entire account.

If you primarily play tanks and healers, then yes a dps companion will be great.

If you have a dps you like to use, then maybe getting your companions to be tanks to help solo world bosses. Or a healer to help with group events like dragons may be better.

So yes, companions who are dps may help your one character who is a tank, but if you have a bunch of dps characters as well, maybe having a dps companion is not the greatest use for them.

Interesting, I will have another look at the companions dev discussion. I was under the impression that because companions were in the collections menu they were available across the account BUT (like horses) the stats etc were per character. Indeed each character still has to 'unlock' the companion by doing their quest.

I think that you can tailor companions to each character - their empathy bar (forget correct term) is certainly per character otherwise the stealing by one character that will upset the Imperial Companion would carry over to a character who never steals and so on.

I never understood why people want to play tank builds for overland content, tanking is a suppl port role that's only relevant in groupplay.
That being said, you can always use sets that give you damage without changing your skill layout.
There are a lot of heavy armor sets in the game that give you damage, as well as some support oriented sets like powerful assault, that you can also carry over to dungeons.

Yes “empathy” or whatever the reputation system is called, is per character. But everything else is per companion apparently. So players will have to re-kit and respec the companion each time they switch characters.

And what ever gear they have for their role stays on the companions paper doll. So let’s say you want a companion to be a dps but is currently a healer, you better have the dps gear on that character and then remember to put the healing gear back on the companion before you switch again.
The whole system appears to not be well thought out for alts.

Now the fun proc sets will scale with offensive stats so every patch less fun for tanks. :s

One last note on companions, apparently the target dps will be somewhere between 5-10k dps. So even at max level they won’t be rocking the dps charts.

    Just carry other gear.

Any basic dps gear will do for overland dailies etc.

Why make life more difficult for support roles? Just give them an option to do more damage to pve targets in the cp system.

They already have pve and pvp focused cp passives in the tree system, is one additional one so much to ask?

You're the one making life difficult for yourself.

Even if it increase damage by 10%, still would mean you hit like crap in yolakhrin and ebon or whatever. 10% of wet it still wet.

Just keep some other gear on you. That's what most people do.

You mean that is what the few tanks we have left do.

I used to have five tanks, now I am down to one and only use it upon request. The character has effectively been shelved.

Tanks used to be able to do overland content, now it’s just painful. Having to regear and reload my abilities each time is not fun.

Pve tanks appear to have been nerfed again and again because pvp tanks are too strong. Since the cp system can have pve specific skills, why not one that tanks can utilize to increase their dps? This way they don’t have to jump through hoops that dps players don’t have to.

Exactly, so expect even less tanks. 😕
